Okay, I have a question.

We just got a satellite . . . what I'm wondering is if I can still set/program our VCR to tape things when I'm not here?

From what I read (there's very little about it) . . . all it talks about is recording on the spot.

Anyone have any clue???

And if so, how?

Okay, I know that you can but telling you how is another story. I'm thinking you have to have your vcr hooked up to your satellite receiver. I can ask Richard tonight when he gets home if you still haven't figured it out by then. He does all the wiring and electronic set up around here.

EDIT: Richard just called me so I asked. He said it depends on how you want to set it up but basically you have to have video cable coming from the satellite receiver to the vcr and then another going from the vcr to the tv. Then you just program your vcr like you always have. Of course I think you will need to add the new satellite channels to your vcr. Does that help?

Okay, after reading your post again I realize you weren't asking how to hook it up but once you have it hooked up then yes you can set it to program at anytime you want just like you could before you got satelitte.

Thanks Lori . . . I *think* it's hooked up like that . . . guess I'll just have to give it a whirl and see what it will do. Hubby is on his PS2 right now though  . . . I gotta be able to tape my soaps! LOL

You have to turn on the Sat Box to the channel you want.....and leave it on.
Program the VCR to record channel 3 for the time you want to record.

You should have the wiring routed like this...

DISH-Sat Box-VCR-TV.

I think you can program some Sat Boxes to turn on and change channels automatically....

I know you could do that with cable boxes.

Good luck.

LOL . . . Bill me!

The installation guys told us yesterday that they wouldn't hook up our phone lines to the box because they don't get paid to do that. Well geez Louise! I wanted it done so we could see the caller id on the screen & so we can order PPV. So I told him . . . seems easy enough . . . I'm sure even *I* can do that! I don't think they were too keen on a woman being able to do anything because they were making fun of me for not wanting to get under the house . . . then they found out that I crawled under there and redid the cable when my hubby wouldn't!

Can you tell those 2 got on my nerves?

Of course, hubby really hit it off with them.

MEN!

*sorry richard* ;) my rant is over now.
