Argg. I cannot get them soft & crunchy. the outside will go soft in an hour of being in the oven & then they burn :(

I cannot afford to waste anymore food, as we only have 1 credit card left & its getting low.

So if anyone has ever made them, can you please help me.

ps I have a french fry cutter so they are a normal size.

We used to have a deep fryer and they came out perfectly. Now I sometimes buy the frozen FFs. I spray a cookie pan with Pam and broil them. They come out crunchy outside and soft inside. But have to be eaten right away.

Belgium is the home of the best fries in the world! And hey.... I am a Belgian ;)

First of all: we ALWAYS use a deepfryer for making fries. The ones made in the oven are unacceptable here

Here we go then!

1) Peel the potaoes, then wash and dry them.
2) Use the cutter to cut fries.
3) VERY IMPORTANT: take a cotton kitchen towel, and dry ALL fries thoroughly! Otherwise they will stick together and get all soft!
4) Bake 1st time at 140°C during about 3 minutes.
5) When the rest of your meal is nearly ready, bake the same fries in 180°C untill they are golden brown. Eat them right away! All fries get soft when you wait to long !

Enjoy your dinner :) :p :)

Hi,

After Lut, there is nothing more to add! This is the perfect way to make them! Never use an oven!
The fries are called French, but Belgians ARE, IN FACT, THE SPECIALISTS to make them! ;) ;)

thanks guys :)

Since I don't have my deep frier, I guess I could just boil my oil in a special pot (the one with another pot in it that has holes on the bottom, it'll let me drain them (forgot I had a pot like that) :)

Your help has been great :)

we use a deep fryer and fry in turkey oil

you have to let it heat up first to the right temp. then let 'em fry.

ours are always crispy and good

My fries always come out crispy!
After peeling them, let them soak in water with 1/2 cup salt for 15 minutes. Drain in a colander and shake the water off. Let sit for a few minutes and shake again. Bake at 400 for 45 minutes.
After 20 minutes, mix them a little... flip them around... continue cooking for 25 -30 minutes until golden brown... yummoooo

well i donīt use a deep frying pot i just use a frying pan like where you make meat or eggs, add some oil, not to much or theyīll get soft, just about to cover almost half way up of them, then add some salt to the oil and when its boiling start adding fries itīll take about 10-20 min (depending on flame, quantity of fries, etc) an d they get crispy outside and soft inside, just make sure to drip them well so they dont get moisty with oil (you can use a papar towel underneath them) and as you take them out salt them again, thay get really tasty, or you can also use some seasoning to get that spicy taste.

Well I don't deep fry anything anymore, use oven fries myself, but I had heard that it is best to fry them a little first, not fully cook them, drain them and then deep fry them again a bit later, you are then assured of the perfect cripsy fry, well so I am told. ;)

I deep fry them.
You can fry them in a pan of oil as well.
They just dont taste as good, unless they are fried. :D

I agree with Lut. I've seen them make fries on the food network and they ALL do it that way....the 2nd frying is important to make them crunchy!

Dont forget to season (salt) them AS SOON as they're out of the fryer! That's the best time to do it.

Good luck!! :)
