Here is a photo I sent in for a local newspapers contest. I'm not sure if he'll even be a finalist because when I resized the photo to their specifications, it looked all distorted. I have a feeling it's the incorrect dimensions. That'll stink. But I just think it's the cutest photo of my best friend and I had to brag...I mean share. :)

Why not crop the picture instead of resizing it?? You could resize so the smallest side is to the newspaper's guidelines and crop the rest. Then it won't be distorted! :)

PS also after resizing, sharpen the image!

I tried that but it still didn't work. Thanks for the suggestion though. I'll just have to wait 2 weeks to see if his picture appears in the paper. Then I can ask all of you to vote!

That is an awesome picture of precious Fenway, and it's a winner in my book! :) Best of Luck getting into the newspaper though, that would be so exciting!!!! :)

That pic of Fenway is priceless elizabethann!! He is such a cutie patootie and so very photogenic. Good luck in the contest Fenway!! If they don't choose you it's their loss for sure :D

Oh my goodness, that is an adorable picture! I always have thought Fenway was a cutie-pie, but that picture is precious. I hope the picture is able to get into the paper. :)

Then you probably didn't do something right, but is the picture you posted the exact one you submitted to the contest?? Because if so, it doesn't look distorted at all. Perhaps because we just don't have an original to compare it with! :)

No, the picture I sent in for the contest is skinnier. But it's the exact size they requested. So I just don't know. Maybe they want skinny pictures?

What dimensions were they asking for?

This is what they asked for:

72 dpi
300-495 pixels in width
640 pixels in height

I can't show you what I submitted because that photo is on my home computer.

O_o Well those aren't really that odd. One step down from 800x600 is 640x480. Example, screen resolutions are 1024x768, step down is 800x600, step down is 640x480 so its quite proportional as far as dimensions go.

But I mean, here is what I was talking about:

Yes, it takes away from some of the image, but the main focal point is still there and it isn't distorted and stretched out. :)

Regardless, good luck in the contest! Let us know if it makes it in so we can vote! Will we be able to vote online?
