we still havent gotton my 1 year old dog spayed yet. we are thinking of doing it this year because she has to get her teeth pulled too. (her puppy teeth never fell out) there will be snow on the ground when shes healing. will the dirty snow rubbing on her stitches make her get an infection? she is a toy poodle mix, so shes only 5 pounds.

For health reasons it is extremely desirable to spay before the first heat.

The chances of infection on dirty snow in the winter is no greater than the chances of mud in the summer. My female decided to go into escape mode (she's a runner) 24 hrs post surgery. By the time I caught up to her she was literally covered in mud. No problems... the wonders of antibiotics.

no, it depends on the dog it self, it dosn't really matter because your getting her spayed anyway.
