I will try to make this as short as possible. I thought that Katie seemed to be getting a little thin. So I made a point of watching her whenever she went to the food bowl. She would sit in front of it and eat about 3 pieces of dry food and then walk away. I told the hubby that I didn't think that she was getting enough to eat, so I started to feed her wet food and she would gobble it down. So for the past week, I would feed her a tin of wet food (156g). She is not a big eater to start off with, so I divided it up 3 ways, to give her morning, afternoon and at night. I tried to look into her mouth to see how her teeth were, but it isn't easy to do with her. So on Monday I brought her to my vets to get checked out. She has two infected teeth in the back and had a fever of 102.5. Poor baby, no wonder she couldn't eat the dry food, she is in pain. She had blood drawn for, what they call, a Geriatric blood work. Liver, kidneys, thyrhoid, etc, etc., and to see if she would be able to take the anesthetic for a teeth cleaning. My vet called me today to say that all her blood work was fine (Phew) except for the thyrhoid. It is slightly elevated.
She said that the normal range is between 35-50 and Katie's is 58.2. She said that she wanted to consult with a specialist to see if she would need medication for it or not. She called me back tonight to say that medication is not needed at this time and we would be able to go ahead with the teeth cleaning and to see if Katie will need any extractions. She is going in next wednesday for it. On friday she starts her antibiotics and will continue them after her cleaning. Right now she is on anti-inflammatory pills to help with the pain.

Sorry this is so long, but could you please say a little prayer for my precious girl as she is feeling a little under the weather today.

Here is a picture of meowmie with her little sicky.

Awww, of course Katie is in our thoughts and prayers. Sending good thoughts your way.

Kuhio was diagnosed with a hyper thyroid when she was 16. That can account for weight loss also. But, she did fine with medication.

Poor Katie! Feel better soon little one. Your Meowmie is worried about you and all of your PT pals want you better soon.

My Tbaitha had the "geriatric blood workup" done also. They suspected thyroid issues, but there was only a slight elevation. I am glad that the white coats recognize our senior cats have special needs and will do what is necessary to help them in their ailments. :D

By the way, I work with senior citizens at our local council on aging, so I am a little more partial than others may be. And, I have my own little furry senior! Tabby is 17.

Lorraine, I'm sorry to hear that Katie isn't doing well. Hopefully she will soon feel better and eat again after she has seen a "dentist".

Thyroid problems can be hard, I'm dealing with this myself at the moment, and it makes you feel really bad.

Get well soon, Katie!

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and prayers for my Katie girl.

I think the anti-inflammatory pills are starting to kick in as she seems a little more chipper today and is meowing at me for her food. She is such a good girl to pill also, which makes it so much easier for me.

She starts her antibiotics tomorrow along with Yogurt capsuls/Lactose free, to help ease the side effects of the antibiotics. Vet recommended.

Thanks again everyone, I really appreciate it. :D
