Well, the vet called this afternoon about an hour ago. He said yes, his thyroid levels are low. He also said that his white blood count is up, but his red blood count is normal, which means he could have some kind of longstanding infection. Everything else (kidney, pancrease, lungs, etc...) are fine. So for now, we put him on thryoid medecation for about 2 weeks and see if there is any change. If not, a x-ray will have to be done to see if there is anything, like maby a tumor or something. I know I shouldn't be worried yet, but I can't help it. I don't want anything to happen to my baby boy. :( Just wanted to keep you up to date on what's going on with him. Anna

Well, I lived in Mandan, then moved to Bismarck, about 10 minutes away. I lived there with my parents for about 8 years.
It really is a nice place to live, not alot of crime & very clean, but there is absolutely nothing! to do:eek: !

I didn't see the original thread about Angus but my youngest, Thunder, border collie mix - has been on Thyroid pills for a year and the difference and improvement have been outstanding. Just don't forget the pills or think "OK, better now, don't need to continue" If the Dr. says THYROID, keep up with the pills. My Thunder is sooooo much happier and playful now. Hair has grown back and he's laughing a lot these days. What joy. Laurie

Well, I went to the vets yesterday. He put Angus on: thyroid pills (2/day), Ampicillin (2/2x/day), Rimadyl (1/day) and last but not least Iron pills (1/day), Phew!! Is that alot or what?! Thats 6/day!
Poor Dog! But the Rimadyl he can chew and all the others I put in peanut butter, he don't seem to mind like that. Now we take him back in 2 wks and retest him & hopefully everything is great! See, all the crossing of the fingers, toes, paws and everything else, just might have worked! Just have to wait a week or so to see if he acts any different (hopefully!), update you in a week or so!:D

If ngus gets tired of the PB (yeah right!!) I sometimes put Sadie allergy pills in cheese or a little bit of Vanilla Ice Cream, just for a change. Hope the pills help him!!

Sounds like Angus is on the fast track to a speedy recovery! I haven't been able to stop thinking of him these past several days. We're keeping all paws and claws and fingers crossed that this does the trick! And I concur, in lieu of peanut butter, CHEESE!!! (We always keep a little low fat cream cheese in our medicine cabinet!!:D) Lots of healing hugs to our Rottie pal, Angus!!

Thunder is still taking his Thyroid and multi-vitamin w/ iron (he's a bit anemic too). He got a little tired of PButter after a while and now we trade off with "CHEESE please" or salami wrapped around the pills or - favorite of all right now - a broken off piece of hotdog with the pills tucked inside. The other five dogs would get jealous of the "treats" so now they all line up while Thunder gets his "buried in the goody treasures" and the others just get "plain vanilla" :D Pill time is fun time. Good luck. Funny, the very first time I posted was about this subject

Ya, Angus loves cheese too! I used to give our chow Keisha her pills in cheese, (she had cancer on her nose, and the pills made her tired and irritated) but after awhile she relized that the cheese was what was making her tired, so she refused it and just about any other treat! How smart they are!

Well, after taking the thyroid pills, his thyroid levels are just right, but even after the antibiotics his white blood count is high. So something is definately wrong, but he's not sure if it is some kind of cancer, or a non-life threatening disease, so we've been refered to an internist in Dayton. Our vet said a X-Ray would not be the best thing, because of his size, so a ultrasound is in order. Just really bothers me that something, don't know what it is. Let you know more later.

Glad to hear the tyroid problem is working out...and we will be praying that they specialist will be able to figure out why Angus's WBC count is high and be able to treat it easily!

We're hoping that the visit to the internist will finally give you the answers you need. But we're so happy that the thyroid pills are correcting that problem. We'll be anxiously awaiting more news. You're such a beautiful pupster Angus. We're thinking of you big guy! Love, Sandra, Cody and Star:)

We'll all be praying that you get some good news on Angus on Wednesday.
As for the buffered aspirin, I would be afraid to tell you what to use and how much, but I know we have given my parent's lab just one when she's taken it, and she is about 90 pounds. Ask your vet to be on the safe side. :)

WONDERFUL NEWS!!!!!
Angus is just fine!!!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D
I don' think I've ever been happier in my life to hear my little boy is pretty much in perfect health! She said she didn't see anything in the ultrasound. Nothing, isn't that great! Anyway, she said unless he started acting strange in any way, don't worry about the blood levels, they aren't that bad! Yaaaaaaaa! Guess you can see how excited I am, sorry, I just want to have my boy around for a little (ok, alot!) longer! With everything that's going on around here, we needed some good news, well this is it! Only bad news is the $$$! Only $250! What a bargan, well it is to me, to find out he's ok. Well, enough, just thought I'd let ya'll know!
