after my star made a breaking news, she hasn't purred or wanted to be by my hands at all for two days...should it be that way? tubster? pudster? filou? ..

the update is about the same for her, just needs 50-100cc subquefluids every other day. doctor coast decided to keep that for about a week more or so, depends on how bright star she will be. I don't like hearig that.. "depends"..a bit. please, please come back, star!! I need you so much.

I've got a help last night too, I maybe can try raw (chicken) diet for her, only in small chunks. she wouldn't want to eat much of her A/D hills or nutrical kibbles yesterday/today..

I truly believe that if anything is going to help Star, it will be a biologically correct diet of raw meat........we see this happen too often........kidney failure, due to commercial pet foods. Keep in mind that it can take some transitioning over for a cat (especially if it not feeling well) to accept raw meat. Don't give up, and keep in mind also that your vet may warn you against raw feeding. The commercial pet food companies educate the vets about nutrition, and they have done a pretty good job of scaring them away from raw.

Whenever Puddy was sick, she would hide under the bed and nothing and no one could make her come out until she was darned good and ready. And if you dared to reach under the bed to try to pet her, you'd probably draw back a stub. As she grew older, though, she seemed to want to be w/me when she was sick, although w/this last bout of renal failure problems, she just laid there like a stuffed kitty. That really scared me. Puddy isn't one to be bothered much anyhow, so she can't be used as a barometer, Gina. :rolleyes: But I do know that not a few cats prefer to be alone when sick, esp. when it's their time to cross over.

Yes, Gina, I'm sure you can administer the SQ fluids yourself. I was nervous at first and still am a little bit, given that it's the Pudster, but it's over so quick and then I can breathe a sigh of relief. And everyone is commenting on how good Puddy looks, that she even looks younger. (Why can't they say that about me?) Talk to your vet and see what he says, why doncha?

I agree completely...raw food cured my Micah when nothing else would (foods and medications).

Its WELL worth a try. :)

Gina, I'm sending lots of prayers and positive thoughts to Star and I hope she'll start feeling better very soon. Hopefully the raw diet will help her. I've been feeding my kittens Innova Evo and it says that this is very similar to the raw diet but in a dry food. My heart goes out to you as, in the same situation, I simply don't known how I would be able to function. Star is not doing well. Gina's little girl is in ICU right now and is under critical care. And there is not much more to report. Gina said when she knows more and feels up to it she will update herself. Keep those prayers coming for this little girl. And keep sending stars for Star.

*..deep sigh..* - first, thank you michelle for the quick update made here.

yesterday with so much things going on, I was having so much pain and did not realize I took pain killer pills more than what my body could handle. but I'm all okay now, I'll have things worked out and I'm trult sorry if I've worried, turned off some of you.

my mind's kinda of still fuzzy but here's star update; she's still being hospitalized at doctor coast, under urgent care. thy think they needed to keep her for a few more days. :( I just gave them a call, check on star - I missed them, I was too late - the office closed. I'll try them again first thing in morning.

I coukdn't stop thinking about her, dread checking my pager if I've gotten any message(s) from them about her. while I was there yesterday in the backroom, ICU - our last moments, I talked to her through the cage bars, leaning my head on bars, tearing at my little not-moving star long before I realize I've left the bar marks on my forehead, heading home.. it's harder than being home without her. :( :( they almost, by mill-second, had her kindey replacing yesterday morning on the table without permitting me to come in. I didn't know where my heart went.

with my hefty heartweighting alng with appreciation, please know I thank you so much for making a bright side I could come back to look at. once again, very sorry.

hi,

it was pretty busy for everyone at the office this morning (7-8:30AM drop/walk-ins) but doctor coast was sweet ebough to pause everything and speak with me. here are what we talked about on phone -

star is not as bad as a couple of past days, her pancreatic enzyme level seems a little better. (good!) they tried feeding her some strained meat baby food, she only would want to lick five-ten times but it was better than last time I tried to feed her! (yay. star liked chicken better).

I also asked him about raw diet just to see what he thinks about.. he said it's a good idea but preferably after star's BUN (blood urea nittrogen) level goes below 50 or so. he's afraid with raw (high protien) would stress her kidneys. right now her BUN level is around 60, a few less than before. (reminder: normal level is 10-30mg/ld). but would like me to try raw diet after she rests a little more.. also, for her IBD (imflamm-bowel disease), doctor coast said it looks better! the last antibodic we gave her in fluidbag was the strongest one and hopefully the digust virus will stay away for a long time!

last.. subquefluids, she's back and catheter, receiving lotsa, lotsa of sodium fluids. she's having her fourth 100cc fluids now since yesterday morning. :eek: star is able to come home tomorrow afternoon or earlier if her progress is going up as good as up.

so...when she comes home, she'll be bringing me a couple bags of subques again (baby turkey food too) and do one bag in her everyday for five days. well, our guess plan is still out in the air but we'll know more by tomorrow when I pick her up.

Hello Star: Regarding the raw meat diet, an average size cat eats about 1/4 lb. of BALANCED raw diet per day. Your vet is partially correct in wanting to keep the protein level low, But the latest research points to the fact that it is the quality of protein, not the quantity of protein that is at question. The quality of protein in processed cat food, whether kibble or canned is very questionable - that is why feeding raw is SO important in maintaining optimal health.

Gina...it took at least 2 weeks until I could tell he felt better and his litter box "deposits" began looking normal again. :)

I use only fresh, free-range chicken. You can get this from specialty stores like Trader Joes or Whole Foods. The quality is VERY important...no hormones.

Glad she seems to be doing better. :)

The directions were 1/2 cup daily. I'd give him that and then allow him to eat the Royal Canin Special dry throughout the day if he was still hungry.

..sigh. all this seem went so fast. for those who waited and didn't know I just came back from hospital.. I thought I was going to get an email from star's whitecoats around this late afternoon after a recepionist called and said their computer went down so it'd take a while for doctor coast to email me the whole explanation and next decisions for star .. but at least only a pawsitive news that.. she sounded as good as to be picked up tomorrow, hopefully!

oh..how I miss her furrs and heartbeats.. I was sick of hearing mine without her. :( star, we're still pulling you up!! ..not to the other stars yet..! we all love you and want you back shinning and feel very well very soon.

we've got three hours left before pet talk goes down.. I thought I'd just let you know what's going on with us - I'm trying to update this before I knock out by pain killers I took, it wasn't a good morning at all, all painy & fevery.

I got an email from doctor coast finally just about half hour ago. we had a little bit correspondence - I'll explain more in details later but said star is all ready to be picked up.. I was too excited yesterday to realize I can't get up and drive today. :( I recently got two texts from local friends who said they couldn't pick star up for me before the whitecoats leave.. :(
