how come some humane societies don't allow their cats to be declawed, if they will be inside cats? i would never declaw my kitten, oreo. it would be painful, i dont care what the vets say. but i was just wondering.

Probably for the simple reason is it's INHUMANE.

i wonder why most rescues dont realize its mean to declaw cats and kittens.

Because if you look at the percentage of surrendered cats with either litterbox or biting issues in declawed cats vs. non-declawed cats, you'll see a staggering trend of declawed cats with those issues whereas non-declawed cats don't have it as often.

Also, declaw is actually the amputation of toes. Not just removing nails - its removing whole toes.

Edit: my rescue is completely against declaw. If we find out any of our adopters declawed their cats, we have the right to go in and remove the cat from the home. Its written in the contract. Though thats another whole issue and I think its downright silly to go reclaim a cat that is living happily with its owners who love it, to return it to a crowded shelter.

its weird how someone one day thought "I think I will remove this cats nails and toes."

Lots of Gary's cats are Siamese kitties. Aren't they gorgeous?? I love their eyes. :)

Most rescues I know of do NOT allow declawing. If you do a search here, you'll find that 99.99% of PT is against declawing.

noahsmommy, they are gorgous! our rescue, and most of the rescues around here DO allow declawing. and some of the rescues declaw them before they can get adopted. ISNT THAT CRAZY??
