As most of you know, I have a new dog, Visa --- I don't know if everyone saw, but I'm keepiong her forever now. :) Our agility screening is next week and then next weekend she is taking a herding instinct test. I emailed my boss' sheltie's handler and asked when her next handling classes are, so that I can show Visa myself. I'm really excited about everything.

Unfortunatly we had a little bit of trouble this weekend. Some friends and I went camping and we took all the dogs. Visa and Lucky were playing outside the cabin. They were being supervised by my friends, and I left the room for just two seconds. In that amount of time, a little boy rode his bike down the rode and Visa jumped on him. She didn't do it aggressivley -- she LOVES kids, and her last home let her jump all over them and the kids, so she thinks it's okay. The boy didn't fall off the bike, but Visa scratched his bum really deep. Her nails are not long, but when she jumps, sometimes she will push her paws forward, not upward, so I can see how it happened. The boy's father was furious, and said we should shoot Visa. He said that it was a bite attack, not a scratch. My friends watched the whole thing, as well as some other campers up the road. They said Visa was happy, wagging her tail, and she just jumped. The man got all of our information and went to take the boy to the hospital to get stitches (it was a very superficial scratch, there is no way it required anything but some antiseptic wash and a band-aid). He is calling conservation to have Visa destroyed. Visa's breeder has gone through troubles like this and she said that she won't be PTS. She said the worst they can do is slap a dangerous dog label on Visa.

I've been working with Visa to get her to stop jumping, and all it's taught her is that she can't jump on ME. She's been to several trainers and none have helped, so I'm taking her to a different trainer. She's a bit oldstyle, and from Germany, so her training methods are different. We're going to work on a few things and see how it goes. I wouldn't say she's a good trainer for most dogs, but Visa has been to other trainers and their methods haven't worked. If the training isn't going well, we can always stop and try something else. It would be nice to get to know her anyways because she will be Visa's schutzhund trainer. As well as this, I'm going to try and address some insecurity issues (the vet said she may be able to help), and get her drive into check. She goes into drive when she is confined or onleash but sees another offleash. Her shyness is getting much better. Today is our garage sale and she has been an absolute doll. She hasn't avoided a single person, but gone up to them nicely, and when they pet her, sometimes she will stretch her legs and back out, which tells me that she is relaxed and comfortable. She has also been doing a downstay SO well. I'm so glad because the agility screening will test her basic obedience skills, and she didn't really know anything when I got her (except to stick her head through a hoop when you threw it --- not exactly basic obedience though lol).

On to pictures now...Visa LOVES the beach. She will chase the waves for hours on end. She just chases them and barks at them and bites them. She's so silly. And she loves swimming, I bought her a Chuckit Flying Squirrel because she had a hard time seeing the sticks in the water, and she just goes after this thing constantly.

Visa and my boss' dog, Taboo. Speaking of Taboo, I think she got her CH this weekend! She only needed three more points and her show was yesterday. My boss' other dog just got his MAD yesterday too!

Aw, photobucket resized my pics.

And now I just wanted to update you all on Maggie, the rottweiler. The SPCA here in quite unreputable -- they breed dogs and everything. I thought for once they were doing something good when they took Maggie and said they would charge her owners. Instead, they sold her back to the owners for $10. Maggie's breeder is pushing the owner to sue us for theft, wrongful surgery, and spreading lies. She gave the owner my email to use in court. The owner lied and told us that she and the vet were friends now and the vet said she would back her up in court because the surgery didn't need to be done. We talked to the vet, who said she'd never once talked to this lady, and that if she didn't have the surgery, that Maggie probably would have died --- the infection in the tumor might have seeped into her bloodstream. A few days later the lady DID call the vet. The vet was quite blunt with her in telling her that she was angry because now that she had the dog back, Canine Connections might not pay for the surgery. The lady offered to clean her house in payment, and the vet pretty much told her that no crazy lady was going to clean her house. This lady is obviously mentally unstable and a compulsive liar. The amount of lies she has told me is just outrageous. We found this lady's house, and they let Maggie wander, so we're just going to continue watching the road and the beach for her, and when we find her, we will take her and give her to a rescue where these people can't find her. I just can't believe the SPCA. They told me that she was very sick, underweight, obviously hadn't been fed properly, neglected, etc, and then they just give her to the owners.

Here are some pictures of her.

On the way back after her surgery...

Poor Maggie, I am so sorry to hear that. Visa is just gorgeous. And it looks like she and Taboo were having a great time on the beach.

Wow, no wonder you have been so stressed lately! :( I'm so sorry to hear you are going through all of this when you are just trying to work with and help these dogs. Visa is absolutely beautiful, and I truly hope that nothing comes of that incident with the boy. It's such a shame that some people are so callous and overreactive, immediately labeling a dog as dangerous and needing to be put down. That is just awful :(.

I think this is my favorite of your pictures. It's a great action shot and is just beautiful, she looks so joyful and happy :)

I'll be keeping you and Visa and Maggie in my thoughts and prayers.

Wow Jordan she is even more stunning than i thought she would be :D. I am sorry about the incident with the kid riding his bike :(. I hope her training goes well, and you see some improvement on her jumping.

As for Maggie how sad, heres hoping you find her again and can get her into a rescue.

Thanks everyone! :)

Yes, it is very sad about Maggie, but we're still hoping to come across her so we can take her and give her a better home, there's still hope for her!

Oh I forgot to tell you all -- my grandma called me yesterday and told me that my grandpa kicked the guy out of the campsite for good. He was yelling at my grandpa and telling him that the doctor said it was obviosuly a bite, not a scratch (it was a walk-in clinic he went to -- Visa's breeder told me straight off that they won't know the difference). We have four witnesses, two of them that weren't even friends of our's, that all say that she never bit the kid, she just scratched him. All of the witnesses will testify for us if we have to go to court.

Great shots! Visa looks like she's having a blast running through that water! She is an absolutely gorgeous dog! How old is she?

Sorry that you had that problem with the boy...Ugh why can't people understand the difference between an accident and an actual attack?

That's really frustrating with Maggie, what an awful thing for the SPCA to do. So the breeder is against you for trying to help Maggie? Ridiculous!

Thanks Amy, she is two years old, turning three in January. :)

We just got back from the vet --- clean bill of health! She just needs to gain about ten pounds. The vet gave me some pills to give Visa on any stressful days, and some flower rememdy to give her everyday to help with her insecurities. And we went and bought her a new collar and a clicker! :D

Visa is beautiful! That's maddening how Maggie's owner and the SPCA are acting. People suck.

After all you did for Maggie, how dare that breeder side against you! This really does make me angry. Breeders I know actually care about the dogs they breed and would never want to see one of theirs going back into a disgusting situation. Of course, you have no idea what the whacko woman said to her, but I doubt that (if it came to court) anything bad would happen to you. They're just dead wrong.
Sorry to rant, I guess Maggie's story really touched my heart, I'll pray hard that you are able to find her wandering again and she may yet have a chance at going to a good home.

Visa is gorgeous - good luck with the new trainer.
I hope the dust settles with that kid's dad. I guess one thing is sure, there's no lack of weird people out there!

I sure wish I could have another dog I would take Maggie in a minute . And I'm fairly close but alass I have a landlord who was unsure about the 2 I have now.
I hope the new trainer helps with Visa and the jumping problem.
