Boomer is doing quite well. He has been drinking, eating a small amount and using his litterbox. When we go into the room, he is coming out most of the time and today started rolling over for belly rubs. Emily has been wanting to go in so we tried her first. No problems at all:) One by one each kitty was able to go in to meet Boomer and so far - only Dylan hissed and Boomer growled. A few minutes later - I went back in and Boomer was relaxed again so decided to take him for a walk around the house and that went well too. Grandpaw got a few pictures so I will get them up here...

A very curious Boomer - taking in all the new things in the living room.....

I like it!!

Here comes Eliot - the butt sniffer...I think they will be buddies in time..
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000940.jpg

Back in the "safe" room - but does he look worried?? Uh-oh! I am not allowed on beds - what will Meowmie say? I won't tell her Boomer...

That's exactly what I thought too - Boomer is a big boy!

I love the way he looks so curious as he was shown his new home. He looks as though he is one smart kitty.

It just warms your heart!!

Dont wory Boomer, the No bed rule doesnt apply in Ohio :D

Lobodeb
09-16-2005, 11:29 AM
Did the "no bed" rule apply in Japan? I thought Missy had posted a picture with Boomer on the bed next to Tyler?

It's ok, either way, Boomer. Rules don't apply at Grandmeow's house! (Just ask her to destroy the picture evidence). ;)

I am so happy to see him adjusting so well. I can't imagine how terrified he must have been on the plane, and confused when he got to his temporary home. I can't wait to see pictures of Missy's and Tyler's homecoming. :D

:o The "no bed" rule is mostly for Boomer's cat-daddy who is very allergic to kitties!

Yes, Missy will let him in the bed with her sometimes...and Paul tolerates it somewhat too. Boomers settles in next to Tyler quite often.

Boomer has much better manners than the other sirrahkitties as far as getting on tables, counters, etc. I think that his new siblings are going to be teaching Boomer LOTS of naw-tee things:eek: :p

Debbie, I can NOT believe how he has fit right into your household and fur family! I am in AWE of that! Animals are so sensitive, that I wonder if he knows you are "family" and that he is going to be safe and happy there. Bet he remembers you from your trip so that has to make the transition easier for him. He KNOWS he is "home" with "family"!! He will fit right on in there so fast that he is going to think he has been there his whole life. I can't WAIT until Missy and Tyler get there and he sees them!!!

How far off is his schedule here from the one in Japan? He probably wants to sleep when he should be up, eat when he sould be sleeping and his whole body clock screwed up.

It is the evening of the second day with Boomer. Earlier this afternoon, Grandpaw spent some time in his room and they enjoyed looking out the window...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000949.jpg

They are getting along very well...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000942.jpg

Boomer really seems to enjoy this window - it is street level and has some pear trees right outside so lots of birds to watch...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000945.jpg

Silly Boomer - still thinks the light switch is a bug I think!! That is the wall directly in front of him and he is looking up at the switch.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000951.jpg

Isn't this a handsome view???
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000952.jpg

Boomer is not nearly the scardycat that he was when he first went to live with Missy two years ago - we are thinking that someone must have been mean to him - but be really bloomed with Missy and family. I know Boomer will be happy to have his Meowmie and brother with him again!!

Took a few more pictures tonight...
Boomer has been crying at the door now and wanting out! So, I thought I would give it a try and see just how far he would venture. I opened the door and out he came - right around the corner and into the kitchen for a drink at the communal fountain. Emily was right outside the door and was watching him...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000953.jpg

Then he sauntered across the family room and headed down the hall....Emily right behind him...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000954.jpg

He inspected the hall and main bathroom, Emily still right behind. They did a bit of friendly butt sniffing and circling...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/Boomer/Im000955.jpg

Then, they BOTH returned to the family room and then back into Boomer's room! I did not get pictures of that because I was holding my breath! I sat in there for about a half hour as Boomer again crawled under the bassinet. Emily kept sticking her head under there but he did not want to come out. Then, Eliot came in and also stuck his head under there and Boomer growled. I let all three kitties stay in that room while I watched. Emily fell asleep in tha hammock (so stressed!!) and Eliot gave up on trying to get Boomer to play and fell asleep on the bed! I figure that is enough for one day so took the residents out and gave the room back to Boomer. I think that room will likely remain his safe hiding place - I will try leaving the door open for longer periods of time when Boomer wants out. Things seem to be going well.

Whew!:D Now to get Missy and Tyler here!:)

Boomer, you are one diplomatic cat! You just make everyone, even the other cats, love you almost immediately! You're such a good boy for being such a good 'guest' (since you are a stranger to the other guys for now).

I know you will all make friends and be buddies; all it takes is a little time and patience.

Looks like you loved the tour your grandmeowmie took you on and I bet you and Grandpaw will be best friends!

I'm just so glad you're HOME!

I could not be happier than to finally find some computer time tonight and see these wonderful pictures! Boomer looks so at ease after everything he has been through! Amazing and Wonderful!!!:) :) :)

I'm sure this news has really made Missy feel good about how things turned out. This has to be a load off of her mind. I'm so glad that Missy will have Boomer with her and Tyler. At least she will have most of her family with her. Things just always turn out the way they are supposed to don't they?

I'm so happy for the whole Sirrah crew!:)

I don’t know how long Missy had Boomer. Did he have a view of trees from her window? Has he ever been around other cats before? He is such a cutie!

Well, I slept with Boomer in his room last night....he snuggled against my legs:) I wanted to make sure he was eating, drinking, etc.

Early this morning I heard him slurping water and using his box. He hopped to the hammock and watched birds for awhile...then ate some of his dry food. I got up and he demanded a long belly rub:D He is wanting out of the room so badly so I think today is the day to open that door and let him roam. We have let each of the kitties come in for introductions and do not see any hostility except for some random hissing and growling. Emily seems to be the one most interested and calm with him so far. He is just the sweetest thing!!

My concern is that he has not eaten much at alll... maybe 1/2 cup of food in 4 days. He did make his first poo yesterday. I have offered him the stinky food I have but he would not eat that. Today I am going to buy another variety and some baby food. I don't want to upset his belly though - can ya'll suggest anything???

We may go out to the mall area and look for the supplement that you mentioned Becky - I can't find that post?? Is this a liquid product?? I think I will recognize the name when I see it.

He is not hiding under the bed anymore - but is still "hiding":)

LOL At first I couldn't find him in the picture...I kept looking at the carrier and expecting him there (I don't have my glasses on).

This has got to be one of my favorite PT stories. Everyone who helped out in sending Boomer to the US are quite extraordinary..and Boomer is very lucky to have such a wonderful Meowmie, Grandmeowmie and Granpaw.

Please keep the pictures coming! I LOVE this thread and it always brings a smile to my day..I have to check through it several times.

Nutrial Cal (there is another brand that is cheaper, same ingrediants called Nutri Stat that I purchased). Comes in a tube.
I strongly suggest getting it soon because this stuff really helps the appetite. Very high in calories too.

Can you purchase what he was eating in Japan? Better yet have your daughter pack what he was eating and bring it with her. That way you can mix old with anything new.

In all the excitement over Boomer, I **forgot** Missy and Tyler weren't far behind! Maybe Boomer is just a little lovesick, and won't eat until his 'family' arrives? Not that you aren't family...but, you know what I mean...I hope!:)

I just can't get enough of Boomer!!! That picture of him 'hiding' under the cover is hilarious, that boy does have some big eyes!!!

no pictures this post - just and update - we bought some veal baby food and boomer chowed down on that - now has eaten half of his dry food so i feel much better. more poo in the box, too. becky - boomer has been eating the same food at his home....same litter too. good thought!

boomer's door is open now and everyone has been coming and going with only isolated growling...boomer is hiding again!!:D as above.

gini and Joh - I also think boomer is a bit homesick and will be happy to see Missy and tyler - we will suffice but nothing better than familiar folks when everything in life has changed!!

That's is for now - maybe pics tomorrow.

Indoor cats like Boomer are more attached to the people in the home rather than the home itself.

Mango, Bubbles & Peaches, all indoor cats, recently moved to new digs and there was hardly a ripple in their lifestyle since the people they know and love were there. They just had new places to explore. Bubbles always hides behind the pillows or under the covers on the bed so she and Boomer would get right along!

My mom's indoor/outdoor cat, a Russian Blue named Binky, seems equally attached to her as he is to his home (his territory maybe?) and would probably be hard to move to a new place.

I suspect Boomer will be much more settled and more brave once Missy & Tyler are with him.

How long is TOO long to not eat?? Boomer has only eaten twice that I am aware of - maybe 1/2 cup of his dry food. He has poo'd twice and they are small amounts and hard - constipation??

Any suggestions? Is there something to get his bowels moving? His belly does not seem distended or tender as far as I can tell. Missy and Tyler will be arriving tomorrow night so that may just take care of what is ailing him!!:)

I just don't want to risk a sick kitty you know? He acst normal except for so little eating. The door to his safe room is open and he does venture out a few times a day. The sirrahkitties are totally fine with him - no hissing or aggression whatsoever. They either ignore him or try to play but give up pretty quickly.

Thanks!

Better add a few new pix!
When Boomer walks around, Emily normally follows him. She really seems to like him and I have seen them laying near each other and she even got in a head lick!

Thinking about his lack of appetite... I know after a long flight (as long his flight) that I am not quite myself. I'm tired and out of sorts for a number of days. As for the small poo's, since he's not eating much, he probably doesn't really have a lot to get rid of.

Debbie, you are making such wonderful progress introducing Boomer! Would you mind coming to SC and taking some time to work your magic on Mimi and Butter, who have lived together for over 4 years, and still don't get along??? :p

I think once he sees Missy and Tyler he will be back to his oldself.

Wow, that is some major progress in a weeks time for a little guy who has never seen another cat. I've never had smooth or quick introductions - everyone acts like wildcats here - so I'm just blown away.

I bet he will be back to 100% once Missy and Tyler arrive.

Oh boy, Boomer, soon your meowmie and little brother will be with you! How happy you will be!!

He is really fitting in so well with your kitties. Guess they're all laid back!
