we're home now, don't have any much strength left to say but I'll only say this much for now and I will come back when I stop crying. sorry for the waiting. :(

star was diagnosed with chronic IBD (imflammatory bowel disease) and mainly, renal disease/kidney failure. :( she's being monitored under subquefluids right now with me. I've known two friends who had their cats with kidney failure, they both didn't make it in a few weeks.. that scares me the most. :(

(click on her for star's original story)..

all I want.. is this shinning star, my girl back! :(

again, thank you so much everyone for all of your supportive stars.

..me & my dimming star..

Gina, please remember that my Puddy was diagnosed w/renal failure and it didn't look good for her at all. She was in the hospital for 6/12 days the first time and 5 1/2 days the second time. She had surgery and started subQ fluids every other day, then every 3 days, then every 4 days, now she's on them once a week. And Puddy is 12 years old w/birth defects. She's doing really well, so much so that I'm able to go away on a business trip tomorrow for 3 days, knowing that she's in good hands w/my house/cat sitter. I know you're upset and sad and want your little girl to be well. God, it hurts us so much to see our little ones suffer. But know that Puddy pulled through and Star can, too. Don't give up because of the words 'renal failure'. Miracles can and do happen every day. I'm praying for you both.

Blessings,
Mary

Gina, I'm so sorry I missed the original thread as I would have added my purrayers there. I'll instead add MANY here in hopes that your lovely girl can be comfortable and stay with you a while longer. God will call her when He needs a special angel to help guide all our kitties over The Bridge. Give her lots of gentle kisses and tell her she's such a beautiful girl who will always have a place in your heart. It breaks my heart that they can't be here longer. :( (((HUGS))) Jan

Gina, I want to second Medusa. CRF (chronic renal failure) is no longer an immediate death sentence. Many kitties can survive for years with sub-Q fluids and the right diet.
PT cats who survived for many years are Catsnclay's Yoshi and T&P'mom's Tubby.

And I hope my Filou.

There is a very good website. Here it is:
http://www.felinecrf.org/

Don't give up hope. After this diagnosis I would rather have some hope!:)

I'll be leaving in a few hours for the weekend and won't be back until Sun. evening. I'll be thinking of you and Star, Gina, and sending healing energy and prayers your way. Don't give up and try to get some rest. I'm thinking positively that, when I return, I'll see a happy, good report posted. :)

Blessings,

Yes, cats can live for years in CRF.
IBD, I haven't dealt with, but I believe it's controlled with diet.
Do they have an idea why her temp is so low?

Get well soon Star.

I just got an email from Gina. She wanted me to give a quick update. Basically she only gave a few details but she promises she will update later.

It doesn't seem anything has changed. Star is holding on. But Gina had another emergency this morning. Gus had to be taken to the ER. She didn't elaborate so hopefully this is nothing serious.

Let's keep those prayers, good thoughts and stars coming for Star and some extra's for Gus too.

thank you everybody for pulling, going through with us up!! we're trying hard.

no, I won't give up. I ran from a meeting to another this morning, asked delight-kitty to let you guys & know to not worry until I get back. (pager takes slow downloading pages than an quick email). I'm sorry for the misunderstood, gus was almost taken to emergency room - he is okay now, I think. thank you michelle.

((these two renal disease cats I mentioned earlier, trouble & diego, who I used to catsit every weekend when the owners are out on jobs/vacations. their last few weekends, I had to keep an eye on them closely, monitoring them..it was very awful. not trouble but I had to take diego to hospital and put him to sleep for his owner. I cried three days straight, I never had a cat at that time. just those flashing backs, I try to remember star is not them))..

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/PTCRAZY/purplestar.gif http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/PTCRAZY/purplestar.gif http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b74/PTCRAZY/purplestar.gif

star is doing allright, still dimming in the corner. but is very warm - (yay). to make complex story simple, star was doing fine at the local vet yesterday while I was at the meeting. I asked them just to feed and water her - nothing else because they charge us non-sense greens.

at doctor coast yesterday, she was given two of 2cc vitman D syringes and started her first subquefluids. right now star is having her second 100-150cc sodium/subque (& bacterial infection anitbodic squirted in by dr. coast) fluid bag hanging up, going in her through catheter, (not needle for now) for a couple of days. she needs one more tonight or tomorrow morning.

her whitecoast said since she bolted down so fast, bewared, she might needs a kidney transplant as a next option if subques can't work. :( :( (her BUN - (blood urea nitrogen) increased high from normal (11-30mg/ld) to 64mg/ld in about three weeks. and her electrolites were very, very low, dehydrated of course.

after I think she is really hydrated, I'll take the catheter out and have needling (18 gauge) in her with more subqfluids once everday for a week. I don't know what next will be.

thank you for the informative link, looks like it will help a lot! oh medusa, your pudster have given us a positive hope, thank you!!(and a belate bye!!)

Just got an email from Gina. She said she was not at home right now but a friend was with Stat. Star is about the same so she is ok (alive). She also wanted me to thank Amanda for the lovely tribute to Star. She don't worry anybody she will update herself when she gets home tonight. She also said she did not receive any word from her friend who was watching Star so she is assuming that means Star is ok. She will be updating later anyway so we will know more then.

first, I'm so sorry for not updating yesterday! I was out longer than I thought I would be then I couldn't get to upload a pet talk page at all last night. I sent delightkitty to let you guys know that but guess she haven't gotte it yet.

anyway, the breaking news is she purred this morning!! oh gosh, it has been 'a long time'!!! I smiled so hard and talked to her more.. *squeaks* she looks much (well, I say much!) better when I got home, likes when I bring her to my laps now. just had her catheter out last night. and I'm going to try A/D hills (her vet sent a smallest pound & 6 wetcanneds), hopefully she's in mood to eat! I had to update you guys first! :)

Hi there,
I'm back from my trip and so glad to read that Star has improved somewhat and that she purred! Purring is good! I thought about her and you, Gina, and prayed that things would go better.

I'm pretty tired right now, so I'm going to sign off for now. One of my furkids, I don't know which one, sprayed while I was gone. I smelled it as soon as I walked in the door. I'm really dismayed by that because that hasn't been a problem since I put Specs on meds. I may have to put him on them again. I can't have that. Can't! Won't!

Anyhow, I hope that you managed to get some rest, Gina, and that things will be much brighter tomorrow.

Blessings,
Mary
