View Full Version : What does your dog(s) dinner look like?

I thought this would be a fun topic since we're all so avid about what enters our pups' stomachs. We feed raw, so vegetarians, be forwarned! It does get rather gruesome in my pups' dishes.

This is Gissie's:

Lucky's is the same, except on a smaller scale and with a few tablespoons of EVO.

Yummy, Finn just gets a chicken leg quarter...or some salmon or other fish...or beef or pork...I don't put veggies or fruit with his dinner, but, I feed him those things throughout the day as I eat them. :) Cool that you feed raw...! No pictures of his dinner, though...I'll try to take some this weekend.

I'd love to feed raw but I'm always afraid I'd miss something & they wouldn't get all the nutrients they need.

So for now they get regular kibble, its decent though, Nutro natural choice.

Can you reccomend any good books on how much & of what to give?

Nothing special, either. Kibble and canned food.

hehe Im vegan and my dog eats raw too. :) my other dog eats kibble (same brand as the raw patties I buy- nature's variety prairie), only because its so expensive, I cant afford to feed them both raw. lol Id like to try making it myself (cheaper!) but I dont have the room in my freezer! I have a super tiny abnormal old fridge/freezer. but some day.. it will happen. ;) Ive actually been thinking about buying a mini freezer but I havent found any that are even remotely decent priced.

anyhoo.. I do have a few photos of brocks food lol, these were from when I was just starting him on raw so it was only a small amount of food:

this was him before I got him to eat it, he was so confused, he didnt think it was real food. lol and now he REFUSES to eat kibble or canned.

lv4dogs: there are actually several companies that have premade raw patties (everything ground up), or still whole meals (whole bones are better because they clean the teeth). the only problem is its expensive, especially if you have a large dog.

when I was researching raw I had a lot of resources from people on PT, you could do a search, theres been a few threads about it. heres the links in my favorites folder:

http://www.njboxers.com/
http://www.rawlearning.com/rawfaq.html
http://www.barfworld.com/

there was one site I really loved but cant seem to find it.. they had an awesome excell spreadsheet thing you could download and enter in your dogs weight and the amout of each component you were feeding, and it would calculate how much of each youd need for like a month or week or whatever. it was so awesome.. Ill try to find that for you

Picture that beautiful stainless steel bowl you have with a bunch of teeny little nuggets in it. I feed Chicken Soup, no time for a raw diet, although they do get alot of fruits and veggies during the summer time. They help them selves to the crops.

Okay, I lied. Cody hocky pucks the bowls when they are done eating so they are quite dented up. She flipps them on thier rims and scoots them all over the kennell, screaming and barking at the same time. Funny scenario, wish you all could see it.

What a epicural delight for your dogs! Logan gets kibble mixed with a bit of canned. Since her skin was dry and drandruffy when I got her, I started dribbling her food with extra virgin olive oil and a itsy amount of warm water. Mix it all together and to her, yum, yum!
She'll eat some fruits as a treat, a rawhide bone every night to keep her pearly whites and lastly, a 1/2 cup of plain Rice Krispies ("Rrr Rrr's " is what she asks for like clockwork) as a bedtime snack. God forbid I'm behind schedule![/COLOR
] [COLOR=indigo]Not to ramble, but the chicken brought back wonderful memories. My mom insisted (when we got Cody) that dog food was too boring so she would boil an entire package of expensive boneless, skinless split chicken breasts and we'd cut some up for him with the broth (seasoned with celery). It'd be Ok if we had sandwiches but the dog had to have his chicken! I don't do that with Logan, but everytime I make chicken for the humans, I think of how dedicated my mom was that Cody got his chicken! :)

Kaedyn's picky :p He'll only eat from something flat. He won't touch his food if it's in a bowl.

I finally remembered to take some pics of my guys eating their dinner which is almost always raw food. They usually get kibble in the morning... nothing exciting about that. lol
This was a special treat, my father splurged & bought them meaty beef ribs for x-mas (about $40 worth). My guys are worth it but I just can't afford to feed it to them every day. lol It's usually chicken, venison, other beef & other game meat.

Raw is great, look at this 15 year olds teeth, never been brushed and only professonally cleaned about 8 years ago.

lv4dogs: Doesn't that make a mess on your carpet and their beds? If I were to do that and the smell stayed on the carpet or his bed he'd eat the bed when he was done! :D

Actually even I was surprised, it makes very little mess, and what mess it does make they clean it right up. No smells & no stains.
I remember years & years ago my dad (who was a butcher when we were young) came home with a big bone for Nanook, gave it to him in the kitchen but as soon as we turned our backs he was in the dinning room eating it, a very meaty raw bloody bone on very light green carpet. I thought my dad was going to kill me, but Nanook licked the carpet clean & you couldn't see or smell anything.

Of course some meats, especially venison is VERY bloody, they have to eat that kind of meat in the kitchen, outside or in Kaiges case he eats messy items in his crate.

We tried that food and it was too expensive for the quality that is not what they advertise. Niņo gets usually Bil-Jac and my mom refuses to think that quality of food has anything to do with quality of the dog's life :( so she tends to try and buy crap. He has lived on Iams minichunk for a long time and still gets some mixed

Claire and Rebel eat kibble food, those raw foods look like they're really good for the dogs, I keep telling myself I'll look into it but I'm still a bit scared of it, don't want to give them any bad stuff. lol

For X-mas I got a book on home-cooking your dogs' food. This, I believe, is better than kibble but still not as good as raw. Some day they'll switch to raw, but only after I'm done with my research! I'll take some pictures of their dinner tonight... actually, it's about dinner time now so I need to go cook it.

Lv4dogs, that dinner looks very appetizing! However, I'd steam clean the carpets weekly because E. Coli could very well be lurking underneath that thick carpeting. One can never be too careful ;) Otherwise, you can lay a sheet of newspaper on the carpet and let the dogs go wild.

Ya know I can't belive I have never thought about that, well as far as carpet goes anyway. I feel so dirty now.
When I prepare it I think about and clean up the counter and when I feed them in the kitchen I think about it and clean the floor. But I haven't thought about that on the carpet. Shame on me. I do steam about once a month or so just to keep it clean with all the critters & traffic I have on my carpets. And granted they only eat on the carpet maybe once a week or once every other week. But still, looks like I'll be steaming more often. Thanks for pointing that out to me.

Wouldn't the bacteria go right through the newspaper though? Its so porus. I think an old vinyl tablecloth or something would be better than paper.

Wow am I dumb! I've never looked into the raw diet, but I have heard a lot of people on here talk about it. I didn't even know dogs could have raw meat! Just so I understand, I can give my dog a raw piece of streak and it's fine? I'd love to put them on that diet, but it looks expensive and time consuming. The time part I can find, but the money not as easy :p.

My little pack gets Chicken Soup for the dog lovers soul. Sometimes I put a raw egg in or some beaf or chicken broth.

Yeah, I feed Finn in the great outdoors. ;) I used to feed him in his crate, but, since his crate has been put up for awhile, he eats outside...

What a great thread, Sophie! You and your raw obsession... heh. I can't show Gonzo Gissie's dinner because he'd be waay jealous.

This isn't really dinner, it's breakfast. He gets a big breakfast and just a Kong-full of kibble for dinner. He got 1/2 cup of Evo large bites, 1/4 cup of lightly cooked Chicken, some green beans and a raw egg ^_^

Lv4dogs, you're right, a vinyl tablecloth would be better! I just feed the dogs outside on opposite sides of the yard, so I don't care what they do with the food, hehe!

each one of my dogs eats a different kind of kibble. each has specail needs, allergies, etc. once or twice a week i do give Gracie a slab of lamb, beef or pork. she also likes pickled pig's feet. Beanie likes those too. in the summer to help Gracie slim down i give her 2/3 of her normal kibble and ad a half a can of green beans.
