Shelters in Katrina's path?

I was wondering if anyone had heard anything about any of the shelters that must have experienced severed damage and loss of pet life in the hurricane? I would like to donate to some of them to help them out, but I just don't have time to do research and look up particular cities and such.

If anyone knows of any which have experienced severe damage and are in dire need, please let me know.
