Tubby & Peanut's Mom

Bugs in the house don't normally bother me, as long as there's not too many and they run and hide when I enter the room. :p
First of all this summer, we were swarmed by tiny little "sweet" ants. Got some ant baits made for sweet ants and they disappeared like magic! I was thrilled!
However, now we're getting these suckers!

They're HUGE - at least compared to the sweet ants. There aren't as many of them, but they seem to be everywhere, including climbing on the walls - blatant buggers! It seems they come in the house, then they die, leaving their ugly little black carcases all over my white carpeting - ugh.
I bought some other traps that were for a variety of ants including argentine(?) ants and carpenter ants and several types of ants I've never heard of. These traps are not making any difference in the onslaught, so my question is, what type of ants are these and more importantly, how do I get rid of them?
Here are two more pics to possibly help in the indentification.

This one was dumb enough to fall into the sink. As soon as I got done with the pics, he was down the drain! I've been known to put a towel in the sink to assist a daddy-long-legs in escaping the steep porcelein walls, but ants, no way, down the drain with you!
I also suppose I should do a search on carpenter ants. I've heard they can be destructive, and if that's what these are, we'll pay for an exterminator ASAP! UGH!
