I don't give my dogs rawhide and have been hesitant to give them bully sticks too (especially since I just found out where they come from! ) Anyway, I was just buying dog food and there were some near the check out at the pet store and I caved in and bought two. You would think I gave them filet mignon. How is this for two happy dogs! Does anyone else give their dogs bully sticks and, if you do, do you know where they come from? :o

Oh, please excuse the fan on the floor. It is from a couple of weeks ago when we weren't having heat wave after heat wave and could open the windows a little. I keep hoping one of these days to be able to use it again......maybe by October or November.

Well, they sure do look happy. :) Okay, I am afraid to ask...so where do bully sticks come from? Wait...maybe I don't want to know. :p

Bully sticks are, well, made from a bull's penis. Since they are like a doggy pacifier, we love to give them to our poodle girls ( hiya, Pam.) They are kept occupied until the last scrap of...pizzle is gone! LOL! The clerk of our local pet store always laughs at me because I go through the box looking for the biggest ones!

Yes, I have heard of bully sticks i did know what they were made of.;) I have never bought my fur kids one but i think i will. My 3 would probably go nuts over them. I have heard they smell really bad. Do they? Your kids sure seem to be loving them. Cute picture!:)

They do smell REALLY bad, but oh, how Beenie loves them.
It it kind of strange to think you are feeding your doggie a dried out pipi! :)

My dogs love bully sticks.
I know where they come from. I'm not sure if I just don't think they are gross or if I am just so used to giving them those sort of things. lol My dad used to be a butcher so our dogs always got plenty of stuff like that.
My dogs get a lot of meat type items, raw bones, pigs feet (sometimes even the legs) pig tails, cows feet (the WHOLE foot, hoof, ankle & all) etc... etc...

We love them. Instead of purchasing them from the Pet Store where the prices are outrageous, I buy them off EBay. I get 25 of the 12 inches for around 35 or 40 dollars. Same quality and the ebay store we buy them from , the owners are very nice. Jake and Zoe always get an extra treat in the box.

Kosy thanks for explaining and I would look for the biggest ones too! LOL! By the way folks, Kosy is a friend of mine with THREE poodles, two beautiful standards and a little black mini like my Ripley. Maybe if we beg she will post a picture or two. :p

I haven't noticed any odor with the bully sticks at all. I did notice an awful smell when I bought them hooves once. I don't even know what kind of hooves they were but they were awful!

:p

muddy4paws, yes I do groom my poodles myself. I have sent Bella to the groomer occasionally but stopped several months ago for a couple of reasons. The bathing is the worst part if you ask me. I really do enjoy grooming them. :)

I have never given Finn any of those things, just because I hate everything about rawhide, and, pig's ears smell like urine. :) But, bully sticks, I don't know...so, they're wieners, huh? Well, that doesn't gross me out, but, does anyone know what they're treated with or anything? I just try to stick to all natural with Finn...I've never given him anything to chew on that is eventually edible. I wonder how long it would take him to finish one of those sticks...hmmm...and, I'm getting mixed signals here, do they stink or don't they? I could not handle the pig's ears, if they smell anything like those things, forget it. :D

thats the cutest picture, Pam!! your poodles are gorgeyous... I cant believe thats their first Bully stick :)

Gonzo loooves Bully Stix, he hates rawhide and hooves though. Bully Stix seem to be soo much easier on their teeth than rawhide and hooves but it keeps him occupied for over an hour. I haven't noticed any smell.. except when he didnt finish a huge one and I put it away until the next day. I think when they get wet and chewed up, then dry, they start to get an odor... I dont think they're treated with a lot of extra stuff. I'm pretty sure they're just dried out ;)

Giselle LURVES Bully Sticks. Then again, she loves just about everything. It lasts much longer than a Greenie, but oh, the giant mouth of a Greyhound. It probably takes Gissie 30 minutes to finish a 12" wiener (at her worse).

Gentledogs, beware!

made of.

Oookay, I think we will just stick with our Greenies if you don't mind. I'm not showing these pictures to Hannah and Tucker either. They may have a different point of view.

Bully sticks are so expensive over here. The ones in that picture would be about $12 each to buy over here. Does anyone else find them to be so pricey? I've heard that dogs just love them so I'd like to get some for my dog after I get him, but I don't think I could do it very often due to the price.

That's a really cute picture. :)

Umm, I think that I will stick with balls for Jesse. She only gets a raw hide every Christmas. She fineshes them withing a couple of days. We keep it tucked away when she is not chewing it though.

I love your poodles though! They are so cute!

Ebay has a seller where you can get about 24 for about $40.00 That is where we buy ours. No way will I pay $4/5 dollars for just one small one...For those of you looking for an inexpensive place, try ebay store; http://stores.ebay.com/Discount-Pet-Direct.

Well, Pam, because of you my girls had thier very first bully sticks last night! I just wanted to report in and let you know that they loved them and so did I. We wanted to watch a movie last night and my girls tend to get rowdy and don't always want to be quiet so I picked up a couple of the bully sticks yesterday when I rented the movie. The girls chewed away while we watched the movie in peace! After they were done chewing they were content and curled up and fell asleep. I was out again today and picked up two more;)

Bella and Ripley are gorgeous and I'm glad I got to see them!

Hmmm...maybe I should treet my parents puppies to a couple. They LOVE chewing on stuff, and maybe they'll like the bully stick much more than the furnature!

I found this from another forum:

"From what I understand/been told; bullysticks are smoked to dry them out. There are no additives or chemicals."

As far as I know, they're completely digestible. I refuse to give raw hide to my dogs because of all the chemicals but I do give them bully sticks every now and then. They go nuts for it! (No pun intended :p)

One of their last Christmas presents was a 24 inch bully stick. They were very happy pups. :D

I have been giving Chica bully sticks ever since she was a wee puppy. It keeps her busy for hours. She won't chew on my stuff when she has a stick to chew. She loves them.:)

I saw these last night when I was getting dog food but I didn't buy one, but after all the great reviews I might have to try it for the girls. Hey it's au natural, right. :)

Oh Pam, my dogs are addicted to them. I buy them in large quantities online at Dog.com (http://www.dog.com/). They have specials all the time.

I like to give them because they're more easily digested than rawhide, and even Chester doesn't get large pieces off of them.

I've noticed that some smell horribly, while others have almost no odor and wonder why that is?

They sure seem to like them though. ;)
