My sweet baby Kona passed away yesterday. My heart is broken.

Kona was 12 years old. Three weeks ago, she developed pancreatitis. She spent a week in the hospital, and I was encouraged when she was allowed to come home. But despite all that I could do for her, she just couldn't recover and get well. I am very thankful that we had time with her at home. I wish so much that we could have made her better.

My husband brought Kona home to me as a kitten when we were dating in college. She had huge ears and was so skinny, but she had the tortie attitude right from the beginning. I have so many good memories of our time together: how she climbed the Christmas tree as a kitten, how she used to sit on my lap for a quiet cuddle during the hour between when I got home from work and when my husband got home from work, how she insisted on a slow drip (not a dribble!) from the bathtub faucet for drinking, and how she accepted Oreo into her home and then stole Oreo's huge dog bed. Kona loved to sleep in the sunshine, and she enjoyed a sun-nap even on her last day. I try to think of those memories now, but I miss her so much.

I have missed her cute face for so long here at Pet Talk and just can't think that she is gone forever.
