any quilters??

I recently purchased two quilts at a thrift store. One in particular very heavily and beautifully handquilted and has some intricate cutwork as well. Two opposite corners have a printed fabric piece of tape with a name "Marjorie Webb" that is ironed or somehow fused onto the back. Just for fun I enterd that name in Google and there is a quilter by that name and she has wrotten several quilting book and is known as the "Virginia Quilter"

Does anyone know ways to identify a real handmade quilt and if ironing on these tapes might be a common thing to do??

Whatever - the quilts ar gorgeous and I love them:)
