My best guesses sent via PM. (I tried to have the statements, followed by mt guesses/comments, but it was too long for personal mail. Oh well! It was lots of fun anyway. I made a stab at all of them, the ones with ???s after were guesses.

This was fun! I knew a lot of them and guessed at the rest. I won't post my answers though so more people can have fun figuring it out :)

Didn't know #10 was originally "glisters"

And I had always heard #18 as "...Jack a dull boy" (someone suggested "John" was reminscient of The Shining...)lol

Number 26-- Sounds good to me!!
