I know I haven't posted much lately . . . things have been busy . . . and I know this isn't "cat related" but it's times like this that I realize how much I appreciate my extended online family . . .

I just found out that my uncle (Bennie) had a scan done of his chest today and they found a mass on his lungs . . . This is very upsetting to our family. We're VERY close to him. My mom was next to the youngest of 9 kids, and since he's so much older than her, he's more like a dad to her.

My uncle Bennie is a Vietnam Vet. He was in Vietnam when the concentration of Agent Orange was at it's strongest. He says he can remember standing in the swamps, watching the planes overhead dropping it into the jungles . . . onto them. We've researched it and during the years that he was there, the concentration of AO was VERY strong! The strongest that they dropped during the war.

Over the past few years, he's really seen a decline in his health. He constantly keeps a cough . . . he's had places removed from his skin . . . the doctors won't tell him what they are for some reason . . . BTW, he is only able to treat at a VA Hospital.

I hope & pray that they will take care of him. I'm not sure that they will.

They're bringing in a lung specialist . . . he's not sure when his appointment will be.

Oh, by the way . . . he's in his late 50s . . . he has a 9 year old daughter. She is his entire life . . . and he is hers. This will be so sad to see her go through.

I've had several family members die from cancer . . . 2 of my dad's brothers have died from lung cancer . . . it's hard to beat. I hate to say impossible . . . but impossible.

Please pray for my Uncle Bennie . . . his daughter . . . my mom . . . me . . . our whole family.

I think it's a disgrace the way the Viet Nam vets are treated. I hope your family can make it through this very difficult time.

Thank you everyone for your support and prayers . . . it really helps to know that there are so many praying for him.

He's only recently even started talking about the war. He was 17 when he went . . . so young.

I've been worried about him for years . . . he gets that horrible cough every winter and looses his voice.

I did find out today that the mass is small . . . about 1.5 cm by 2 cm. Hopefully they'll be able to remove it and be rid of it.

Please keep the prayers coming!

And thank you all again for your good thoughts.

Christa the size that you are describing sounds like something that may be at an early stage and very curable. My hopes are that it is at an early stage anyways. Please let us know how everything is. Continued prayers for you and your family!

Dear Uncle Benny,
Even though the war ended some 30 years ago, for far too many it still continues. I can remember watching Bob Hope being there with all of you during the Christmas season. As the camera was going around the audience, I spotted 2 of my friends. Well, phones were ringing all night as our group kept calling to ask," Did you see them?" We were so excited. Not too long after that the news came that both were killed in action within a few days of each other. We never had the chance to say "Thanks, guys!" Thank you for what you did. Not to worry, many prayers are being said and will continue to be said for you and each member of your family. Please don't worry, Uncle Benny, everything will be just fine. I'm on your side!
