Glenturret, Scotland's oldest working distillery, is currently interviewing nine candidates supplied by that well-known staff agency, Cats Protection.

The successful candidate will be "outgoing enough to welcome our visitors from all over the world, and he or she should enjoy being the centre of attention and certainly not camera-shy. Mousing ability would be an advantage but is not essential".

The BBC website has a little bio of the hopefuls.

The new cat will have a hard act to follow. Towser, the cat being replaced, earned a place in the Guiness Book of Records.

Wow, what a mouser that Towser was!!! 30,000????
It's going to be hard to fill those kitty paws. Good luck to all the contenders and may the best paw win.

Karen, could we visit that distillery when I'm over there next year??;) :D

I had heard about Towser before. I will start to put little drops of Caol Ila in T's and F's food because single malt whisky obviously makes cats live for 24 years:D

Tigris thought about applying for the job as he is more outgoing every year:D

Dear Auntie Karen,

My brother, Eddie, would very much like to be the distillery cat. Scotland is very far away from here isn't it?

If you will send me an application I will fill it out for him and send it back. Maybe I'll just send him with it.

Helpfully,

Edwina

Too bad Pichu didn't hear about the selection process from the very beginning - he loves to be the centre of attention and he is quite a hunter :D

Do you know, Barbara, when I searched on "Towser", the amount of German websites that came up was amazing. A German photographer was highlighted who has apparently interviewed more distillery cats than anyone else! Not sure how you do that, but still ... :D

I didn't know that but some years ago we were searching a picture we wanted to publish in a Scotland travel guide and didn't find one.:D

Edwina darling, how kind you are to send us your brother, in our hour of need. You are a selfless soul.

He arrived this morning. I am just a little concerned that meowmie might be upset when she realises that Dartman has darted off again. Perhaps I should bring him back? :D

I thought they had their own cat celib but this one may be too spoiled to be a mouser. He looks like he gets is meals on a silver tray. LOL

I think you are right that Spartacus wouldn't sully his paws with work!

Dear Auntie Karen,

Oh, go ahead and keep the darling....mummy will never notice..I'm sure. I'll just tell her he ran off with the cat next door....:D :D

Well I didn't think you would be a mouser. Unless it was served on a silver platter of course. LOL

So who do you think they will get to replace Towser? Any nominees yet?

As far as I know, the selection process has not yet been completed. I shall scour the press for updates. :D

Well I'd like to know how they counted all the mice Towser killed and how they verified it. LOL

Killearn Kitties

It's an interesting thought isn't it? :D As far as I know though, the verification criteria for entries in the Guinness Book of Records are very strict. So they must have been satisfied somehow.

For all of you who were waiting on the edge of your seats, the successful candidate was Dylan!

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid178/p32b8c8b30840a4a06ea483e519b19a3e/f31d8844.jpg

Dylan is eight years old, very outgoing and very sweet.

I visited the Distillery yesterday and saw Dylan. He/she (?) appears to be settling in very nicely.

I thought 2 cats got the job Karen? I read somewhere that Dylan was one but there was mention of another cute puss cat getting it too!!!! Am I right or what?????

Oh, I don't know, Mags. I asked them at Reception, and they said that Dylan had been taken on. Dylan was certainly the only one we saw!

I do hope Brooke has already given notice so her current employer doesn't find out from the press! :D ;)

Killearn Kitties
07-27-2005, 03:06 PM
:D How exciting!! We didn't see Brooke, but we did see Dylan. I don't have this photo myself, but Vio spotted Dylan, ran outside and scooped him up, then had her picture taken. I was not close enough to run outside. Hopefully we will see the photo next week.

I was so happy to see him - he is REALLY a very soft cuddly boy. I couldn't believe that a cat would react so calm to a large group of people and stay in my arms for so long (while we realized one camera was no good and my bf had to take a picture with his video camera), and act like nothing could bother him. He definitely got the job for his qualifications :)

I will just attach the pictures - it's 11pm here and apparently Imagestation chaged some rules of the game.
