WARNING!!! This could get mushy...
Happy birthday, baby girl!
It's hard to believe it's been almost three years since you tumbled into my life. I wasn't looking for a dog. Neither was Daddy. But someone was stupid enough to give up a lifetime of smiles, kisses, cuddles and hugs from you and thank God my neighbor was the one to rescue you and bring you home with her. You were so cute, just 6-7 weeks old, so tiny and fuzzy. Look at you!

You'd follow me wherever I ran. You played with me and with Daddy. You stole everyone's hearts - even old Uncle Sherman Kitty's. How could you not with those eyes?

When you came to live with me, you changed my life completely. I couldn't wait to get home from work to see your happy little face. I even manipulated my plans with friends so that they could come over and hang out with us, so I wouldn't have to leave you. Who could willingly leave such a sweet girl?

Don't get me wrong, Sam. I've loved before. But I never knew love could run this deep. You're more than just a "faithful companion", though you are that too. You're my best friend. You make my life so much happier. You listen to me when I need to vent. You cuddle with me after hard days. You kiss away my tears - not even Daddy does that! :) I love you so much, I can't even justify it with words. None of them seem to come anywhere close to describing how I feel for you. I love everything about you - your beautiful eyes, your velvet ears, your silly little "boofs" when someone walks out front of your house, the way you turn your head when I say something to you, how you always come to bed with me at night. I love how sweet you are. I love that God sent you to me and I thank Him every night. Without you, my life would be so different and not for the better. You add so much into my life - and Daddy's, even though he doesn't get mushy like this. Everyone loves you - Grandmommy, Granddaddy, Uncle Robbie... and this baby that we're going to have, s/he'll love you too.
If I had one more wish to ask, it would be that you could stay with me forever. Dogs have one fault - they don't live long enough. I cannot imagine life without you, Samantha. And even though it's a loooooooooooong way off, know now that when your time comes to leave me, I will never be the same. Hell, I'm tearing up just thinking about it right now. BUT IT'S NOT A SAD DAY! It's your birthday! So I'll stop crying and work hard so that I can get home and be with you and play with you and cuddle with you and treat you as exactly what you are - the best dog in the history of the world!!!
I love you, Samantha. Thank you for everything.
Love,
Mommy <3
