View Full Version : Do you like where you live?

The "What temperature..." thread made me come up with this one.

I'm wondering if you like where you live. (the city and state, I mean)

We moved to Austin from Dallas 2 years ago, and I still hate it here. It's a city filled with construction and rude people. At least the weather stayed the same. ;)

Where do you live and do you love it or hate it?

The gang and I (Me, Jen, 2 kids, a dog, two cats........) just moved to central NY this past winter, and compared to Mass we love it. Jen doesn't have to work, she can be a mom, which Marylin-Jean loves, and we have plenty of room for Lady, Marylin Jean, and when he gets old enough, Axel, to play outside withou having to worry about it.

I like Colorado a lot. It's beautiful. But the town I live in No, I dont like it very much. It's so small there is nothing to do, no jobs, ect ect.... I was born here and it looks like I may die here. Lol.

I was born in California, lived here my whole life, and just 'love' it here. It is such a beautiful place to live. When I go anywhere else, I find myself grieving over the lack of mountains/hills. :o LOL! The weather these days makes me love it even more. So beautiful. Of course it has its drawbacks, but overall, I love California as a state, and I love my city too!

We live in Sydney, Australia. It's more or less like any other metroplolis. I would much rather live on the coast, but the need for jobs, makes Sydney the place to be. (I would love to live in Colorado, I think it's a top place:) )

Love it weatherwise, as I am just weird, I guess. We have many seasons here (winter, spring, mud, summer, desert, autumn, sleet, then winter again) and all kinds of weather. I live in a "city" but have nice neighbors, a quiet street and trees in the back - not a house behind my house. (Beyond the trees is a cemetary, so it's quiet, at least!) I'd like to have a bigger yard, and live where there are more trees than people, but I have every conceivable kind of restaurant within a couple miles, can walk to the (really good) library, and my choice of open-24-hours businesses. It is culturally diverse (the supermarket has as many varied languages spoken as any "international" event), has varied terrain, and is interesting. I like it.

I wouldn't mind trading some of the conveniences for fewer houses and more land, but you can't have everything, i guess. Unless youre a bazillionaire - there are homes with decent amounts of land in Newton, I just couldn't afford to buy one - property values are sky-high around here.

But I like it!

I like where I live (just outside Calgary Alberta Canada).

It's beautiful here, it doesn't get too hot in the summer and doesn't get too cold (for very long) in the winter. I am so close to the mountains if I want to go hiking etc.

I can't see myself ever leaving this area of Alberta.

When I first moved to California, I didn't like the lack of changing seasons, but now that I've lived here for several years, I really love it. The weather is great! There is never an excuse that "there is nothing to do", because there's always something to do! It's beautiful and the weather can't be beat. It does have it's drawbacks (traffic and cost of living), but I don't see myself leaving for a very long time.

I love Vancouver. The weather is great (well, I like rain so I think it's great. :p) You can find and do anything here. You can go snowboarding, hiking, go to the beach, go rock climbing and a whole bunch of other stuff without going too far. And there are tons of dog related things around here too. :D

Love it. Not many places where I could keep 22 dogs without a problem! I love winter so this is a great climate for me. I could do without the darkness in the winter, but a light therapy lamp helps with that.

I grew up on the Prairies and still love the flatland, but I find now when I visit, it's not home anymore. It's where my roots are, where my family is, but my home is the Yukon.

I love my country Belgium! It doesn't have the greatest weather, but it is beautiful! If you will ever get the chance to visit Bruges, you will understand what I mean :) . We have it all: coast, hills, countryside, cities, etc...!

Aww, I'm sorry you don't like it :( I've never noticed a difference between Dallas/Austin people. I did get scared of Dallas people for awhile after a horrible trip where people were flipping me off when driving on the highway, mean customer service people at the places I went, etc. I've decided that was probably just a bad coincidence though.

I LOVE Austin! It seems to have something for everyone. I could do without the humidity and the construction, but love everything else.

I hate my condo, I abhor my neighborhood, and I'm dying to get out of Connecticut.

Can't stand it here. I just need to figure out where I want to go.

Austin?
Phoenix?
Baltimore?
Philly?
Ann-Arbor?

According to a national survey, Austin is supposed to be one of the ten best places to live.
Personally I hate it in Texas during the summer which I spend mostly indoors due to the heat. I would much rather live some place cooler with all four seasons.
After taking this quiz the top 5 places for me show to be, Columbus, IN, Johnstown, PA, Lancaster, OH, Peterborough and Littleton, NH.

I love where we live! I grew up on Long Island, and hated it. I never fit in down there.

I moved to New England 8 years ago, and love it up here. The housing is affordable, and we were able to buy a real house with a decent amount of land. One drawback is that the 3 neighbors we have are unfriendly. I've never spoken to 2 of them, and only twice to the 3rd. When you smile and wave, they don't smile or wave back. I guess we are the "newcomers" and that's the way it is. :p

I love the changing seasons, though summer doesn't last long enough, and it takes too long for spring to get here sometimes. But that's OK. Fall is gorgeous, summer isn't too hot, and I love snow. :)

I love where I live. It's a small town about an hour outside of pittsburgh. I love the changing seasons, and I could not handle the heat in the south during the summer. I'll get some good pics in the fall, my favorite season!

Oh wow, I LOVE Kentucky SOOO very much!!!:D We moved here from CA about 2 1/2 years ago, and even though it was a really big change, it was for the better!! I have made SO many wonderful friends, and the area is beautiful...rolling hills, and HORSES!:D -grin- So I love it here!:)

I LOVE my hometown of Syracuse, NY! Absolutely LOVE it!! The weather can be rough, Syracuse and the surrounding areas get a LOT of snow!!! Last year, they got 11 ft of snow!!! There are years when Syracuse gets more snow than any other place in the WORLD!!!
But it's no big deal, you get used to it when you grow up with weather like that in the winter. People just plow the roads shovel out and life goes on as normal!! No big deal!

AND the summers!!! OMG! The summers are the most beautiful in CNY! There are a million and one things to do; festivals every weekend; dozens of parks; Lake Ontario is there, St. Lawrence River is close...tons of other lakes and rivers for boating, swimming, camping; hiking.....People in CNY REALLY try their best to enjoy the warm weather and take full advantage of it since winters can be long. People are always outside in the summer, hardly ever shut away in the AC...

OK, now that I've bragged about my wonderful hometown...I, unfortunately, have been living in NJ for 6 months! I will be moving to PA on Sunday!! I took the quiz that Auggie posted and it gave me 24 "Top Spots"....Harrisburg, PA was actually # 3 on the list which is great since it's only 30 minutes from my new town!! :D It also listed Carlisle PA which I think is near here somewhere too...
The rest of the towns consisted of some upstate NY towns (including Syracuse!:D ), and a slew of towns in NC and Virginia, both states that I love!!
I'm such an East Coast girl!! I love the green and the rolling hills...I would never make it out west!

auggie, Littleton NH is a beautiful place to live. I highly recommend it. I love NH. I live a 1/2 hour from the beach (which I LOVE), 1 hour from Boston, a 1/2 hour from Newburyport MA (great little town by the sea), 10 minutes from a lake, 1 hour from the mountains and 15 minutes from the biggest city in NH (Manchester). I love the little town I live in. HOWEVER, the real estate situation in NH is ridiculous. A decent home starts at $300,000 (and this is a home on a 1/4 acre of land). Rents are high (but luckily mine is very low). It's impossible to buy a house here unless you are wealthy or upper middle class. It's very sad because I know I'll never be able to buy a house here. ILoveReptiles, I know how you feel. I use to own a townhouse and I HATED one of my neighbors. If they would have spontaniously combusted before my eyes, I would have been very happy. I lived there 8 months and finally decided to sell it and move back into my old apartment (where I'm very happy). Though I do dream of owning a little house on a nice piece of wooded land. I'll have to remember to buy a Powerball tix. I'll have to take that test to see where "my spot" is.

elizabethann
06-22-2005, 09:34 AM
hmmm....i just did that test and my top spots are:

Clarksville, TN
Hampton, VA
Chattanooga, TN
Augusta, GA
Norfolk, VA
Jackson, Miss
Greenville, SC
Hattiesburg, Miss
Springfileld, Missouri
El Paso, TX

All down south..........interesting.

I really love where I live. Ohio is a nice state however there isn't much to see here if you ask me. I loooove my hometown because it is so small and I always feel safe here. Whenever I go to big cities for vacation or something I am always so glad that I can walk on the sidewalk and it won't be croweded with people!:D So yes I love where I live!!!! :)

Dallas definitely has it's share of mean/rude people. And because it's so big, it can be a scary place to try to maneuver through. :)

I guess I shouldn't have generalized quite so much. There are a lot of nice people here, but for the most part, I've never encountered so many people so self-centered and rude as I have here. :(

I live in upstate NY. I can't really say I love it but I can't say I hate it either.
The scenery is to die for. The winter sucks. My family is here. People are rude.

I've lived &/or visited every state besides hawaii & north dakota & out of all the places I really love Oregon, Oklahoma & Arkansas. Someday I hope to live in Eugene Oregon again!

I like the county where I live. It's more rural with lots of farms and rolling hills, but it's getting waaaay more developed and crowded. I don't like the surrounding areas as much though some of them aren't too bad. I mostly don't like other Marylanders away from where I live. (WARNING: THE FOLLOWING IS A GENERALIZATION BUT DOES NOT APPLY TO EVERYONE AS THERE ARE ALWAYS EXCEPTIONS!) A lot of people around Baltimore are low-class and trashy. And a lot of people around DC are snotty.

I mostly like Maryland because it's like America in miniature. We have a coastline, flat ground, a bay, rolling hills, plateaus, and mountains - all within 3 hours.

I love and hate Nevada....

I love the fact that I am so close to Lake Tahoe and the rest of California. I love the wilds of Northern CA (camping is one of my favorite things to do). I also like the party scene in Reno/California. There are a lot of outdoor camping parties and the people are all so nice! The culture really blows me away. I love how Nevada itself has a lot of open space to explore. Getting away from the city is very easy.

I hate a lot of the big city types here though, Especially in Reno. There are quite a few rude people and they are always in a hurry. There aren't really any nightclubs in Reno (The only ones are Rap clubs) and don't even dream of having any type of club/party in Carson City. The old folks will shut it down with a quickness. If you aren't over 21, Carson City is NOT the place to be. Reno isn't all that much better.

If you don't have a car, being stuck in Carson is a real pain and is boring as all get out. Nevada is one of those places where you have to make up your own fun as there isn't a lot of things to do outside of drink and gamble.

I do hate it here

My reasons I hate it:

1) No dog park
2) There are more casinos than anything here
3) The people are rude
4) The weather sucks  (except for the summer--we have LONG winters)
5) There really isn't anything to do.
6) All of our stores suck (well except Wal-Mart ;) )
7) It's not easy to make friends here.
8) It's hard to find a job(It's like finding a needle in a haystack or a four-leaf clover ;) )

I never knew I could be so negative about my town :o

Edit:

I found reasons why I love it!!!!

1) horse back riding
2) the country side
3) some of the resturaunts are good
4) the population (thank God we are not a huge town ;) )
5) Swimming (well about 20 mins away there is a place called Fairmont Hot Springs resort and it has a baby hot tub and a large pool inside. Outside is a huge hot tub and pool and they have a waterslide!) :D It is relaxing just thinking about it! :)

Now I can be positive about my town, too! ;) :D

I dont like my neighborhood very much. These are the reasons:

1- The streets are all broken and dirty
2- Its unsafe (too much thieves, and that things)
3-There are not cinemas or shopping centres close.
4- There's not a park or some place to let Anita run without her leash
5- there's a polluted river near my neighborhood (I dont know if its true, but I heard that its the most contaminated river in the world) I dont live near it, thought
6- It isnt in Buenos Aires city, you have to cross the polluted river to get there (and the bridge always breaks! )
7- I dont like my neighbors
8- too wet and hot weather

These are the reasons why I like it and I wouldnt move now:

1- All my friends live here
2- My house is in the best place of the neighborhood
3- We live near the shops, school, and that things
4- It would be hard to move now. Perhaps I'd like to move to the capital when I finish school
5- I dont apreciatte the place where I live, but perhaps other places are much worse!!

I have lived in the same county my whole life except the first 6 weeks of my life and here is my "Location" from TFF:
"Location: not where I would have picked.... oh well. :("
It is tooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo oooooooooo humid. The people are complete idiots as well as inconsiderate and they hate all dogs. They are very shocked to see me riding my bike on main roads (on the sidewalk of course) They seem to be saying, "Oh, you poor poor girl, where is your mom to drive you everywhere you please?" ugh, no good fish stores, everything is overpriced, the library seems to never be open, the people are complete idiots and it is tooooooooooooooooo humid.

I live in Southern California and I LOVE it. I've been to many places and so far, California is the only place in the US I'd like to live. I'm sure I'm partial, as its the only place I've lived. ;)

Why I like it:
*Very diverse population - I can learn a ton about different cultures
*Weather is amazing
*We have the mountains, beaches, rivers/lakes, desert, snow, agriculture - everything!
*Trendy (where I live)
*Major cities are nearby...which is just close enough
*With major cities brings large hospitals, schools, preforming arts, movies, etc.

Well, I have lived in the same place my whole life. I live in Minnesota, and it stinks!! I like our farm, it is fairly big, and really "homee" but the weather stinks -40 degree winters :o The summers are really nice though, not to hot (most of the time) and never too cold. I do not like the fact that my school is 20 miles away. My best friend live 20 miles EAST of my school, and I live 20 miles WEST of my school, so that means if I want to go vist my best friend it takes about 45 min. to get there!!

I live outside of Grand Rapids Mi. I was born in California, I would love to move back. My husband on the other hand loves Michigan, he was born and raised here. :( I hate to cold, the city and so on. My city is actually a very nice city, nice parks trees quiet and such. It just isn't "my city" in a sense. It doesn't fit me I guess. I would love to move, out of this city or Michigan if we could. But right now I am stuck here. :(

I do, and I don't...

I LOVE how much space I have, and the fact that I can have all my furbabies and then some.

I just hate the fact that I live in such a crappy neighborhood, and the HO in the apartment behind me is such an IRRESPONSIBLE neighbor!!! And the fact that the carpeting is maroon!!

I wish I could find a CAT FRIENDLY place that doesn't require an idiotic amount of money PER CAT, that is non-refundable.

Betty yet, I wish I could buy my own place. That AIN'T in the cards!

I like where I live. I live in a pretty rural county with lots of countryside. We have about 3/4 acre, fenced for the furkids. Neighbors are quiet, street is quiet. I live about 50 miles north of Tampa, FL so if I need to go to the city I can and it's not too far. I work in Tampa so I am here often. I live the peacefulness of my city and the traffic is less than Tampa. I lived in North Tampa for 2 years because of school and liked it at first but was dying to get back "home" towards the end. I am so much happier out of Tampa back in my hometown closer to my family and friends. Our weather isn't the greatest (hurricanes as we all know) but it's what I know and I have gotten used to it. We only have 2 seasons...HOT and HOTTER with a great deal of humidity but like I said it's what I know and gotta stick with what ya know. :) I wouldn't mind having a house in Wyoming/Montana area to go to for vacations but that's not gonna happen for a real long time. Ultimately, I can not see myself ever leaving Florida permanently, I can use a vacation from it but that's it.

Western Washington is the I love to hate this place...place. I was born and raised here. I have been to many other places and prefer my home to others. Our weather is less than to be desired but when it behaves itself, it's priceless. We have quick access to oceans, mountains and desert,(Eastern WA). The traffic sucks, but where doesn't it.
