View Full Version : Kia's Birthday Party ~ what day works best?

I would like to throw a little shindig at the Orion Oaks Bark Park.

It's officially titled as Kia's Birthday Party because "Kim's Belated Birthday, Kia's Early Birthday, & Andy & Kimmy's Engagement" Party is just too long. ;) :D

It'll be the weekend of June 25-26th. So, what I would like to know is what day works best for most people.

:)

I appologize for this being so last minute. It's been hectic around here.

Either way, we hope you can make it!

I'll talk to Ralph and see what he thinks, but I am guessing Sunday may be better. He and his dad usally work on the basement on Saturdays, and our dance show is Thursday and Friday night. We usually have the Friday night cast party, and people don't leave much before sun-up!!

Well I'll be finding out tomorrow what my schedule is for next week so I'm not sure if I'll be working both days or not (I'm always scheduled Saturday). I'll let you know!

Hi! We would love to come, hopefully Sunday would work for me. I'm already scheduled to work on Sat. the 25th. The next week's schedule STILL hasn't been posted, but I will try to be off on Sunday. I should know in the next day or two.

Happy Birthday to Kia (and, to Kim! and, congrats on the engagement, too!)! If I could afford it, I'd go, just so I could say I've been to Michigan! :) :) I hope lots of folks can make it to the celebration!

June 25/26 is 9 or 10 days away ... weekend AFTER this coming one.

Either day OK - Sunday prolly the better one for us.

Point to Note:

We have "our" Pavilion #7 at Findlay reserved for the weekend (Sunday)
after Kia's Party - the Sunday (July 3rd) of the 4th of July weekend ...

Are there going to be enough folks who will come to both events??
The Orion Dog Park is a BEAUTIFUL Place -
complete with a great *Swimmin Hole* for the Dawggies!!

If we need to choose only one event -
let's go to Michigan and cancel the July 3rd Gathurin at Findlay.

Now that I'm full-time at the funeral home, I don't work weekends anymore, so I'd LOVE to celebrate with everyone! Just let me know when and the directions. Sunday works best for me too!

Orion Oaks Home Page (http://www.co.oakland.mi.us/parksrec/ppark/orion.html)

Bark Park Home Page (http://www.co.oakland.mi.us/parksrec/activities/bark_pk.html)

NOTE: The NEW, north side of the Bark Park opens Saturday, June 4, 2005! This fenced area includes trails and field areas.

It was 7 acres to begin with...I think it's easily double that now. :D

Now they just need to expand the parking lot. :p

Here's a cropped version of their PDF file. The Bark Park is circled in green, the parking lot in yellow, the expanded area in red, and the swimming area in blue. :)

From where I live it's probably a two hour drive.

But from where Andy is currently living, it's about a half hour away. So I only am able to take Kia on the weekends.

Aw man, that's the day of the Florida meeting.

My family and I are hoping and hoping to make it to Michigan this year. We're not sure if we'll have enough money to do so but we want to because it'll be the last big whoo-ha for our family on the 4th. My aunt and uncle are selling their house because they can't afford it anymore (it's HUGE and has been in the family since my mother and her siblings were born. :( ) Anyways, I think if we went we'd be up there the week of the 4th and maybe the week after. Is anything at all planned for then? I'd much be at a PT Meeting than be with some of my family up there. :o (Some of them are incredibly stuck up. :o ) Besides money, the only problem we have is finding someone who wouldn't mind 3 dogs visiting as well. :o

It's just wishful thinking that we'll be able to make it up north this year, but if we do there's no way i'll miss visiting some PT'ers.

"We have "our" Pavilion #7 at Findlay reserved for the weekend (Sunday) "
In case you need a head count, we will not be able to attend the Findlay gathering - :(

"From where I live it's probably a two hour drive."

What city is it in? I looked up Williamston, and that's 2 1/2 hr. drive north of us. Is the dog park much farther?

Cincy'sMom

The Dog Park in Michigan is onthe north side of Detroit. If I remember right, we ran into some traffic two years ago, and it two us about 2 hours from toledo (should have been more like 1 :30) From Findlay, it would be about 2 1/2 if traffic is good (and my memory is right)

cyber-sibes
06-17-2005, 08:43 AM
From Findlay, it would be about 2 1/2 if traffic is good
*phew* that's good. I was afraid it might be 4 or 5 hours away. We can do 2 1/2.

RobiLee

I won't be able to make it. I am pretty certain that I will have to work and it is just too far of a drive for me.

I also will be there in spirit and wishing Kia a happy birthday!

Does this mean the Findlay one is cancelled. What's going on? I would kind of like to know. Need to make plans.

It's close to Lake Orion, MI. I was wrong. According to mapquest, the park is about an hour and a half away from Williamston. I just never go to the park from home since Andy lives closer to it and I stay at his place on the weekends.

The Bark Park is just south of the intersection of W Clarkston Rd. and Joslyn Rd. It's next to Lake Sixteen.

I am not sure what to do about the Michigan trip. None of my dogs except Dazzi are good off leash (and she can't go because she sometimes doesn't like other dogs). How much fun would it be for a dog to be there and have to stay on leash? I am afraid if we took Taggert we would never get him back again. He would be off exploring and never give us another thought.

ramanth
06-17-2005, 09:23 AM
I don't understand your question, Diana.

The MI Bark Park is an off leash fenced in park.

You just said your dogs are not good off leash. They appear to be great off leash at Findlay. :)

RobiLee
06-17-2005, 09:45 AM
I think Diana is thinking like me and how I am with Tori. It sounds like a big park and I don't have very good voice control over Tori and would be afraid that she would not behave very well. Is it something like that Diana?

ramanth
06-17-2005, 10:01 AM
It is a big park, but from what I have witnessed, dogs tend to stick close to their owners. I know Kia does and she does not have very good recall.

I just figure if she gets out of sight, she'll come back eventually. ;)

I don't know that anyone really needs to *worry* about your Dawgs
at the Lake Orion Dog Park ...

No doubt about it - it **IS** *BIGGER* than Findlay ...
with some densly wooded areas ...

But it is also Very Well FENCED,
with double gates at the entrance/exit points;
and the 2-Leggers at Orion are just as *Friendly* and helpful as
the ones at Findlay ...

Dawggies that "wander off" can't really *get* very far - and there's
always Help Available to round 'em up - no matter where they try to Hide!

And *Swimmin* is "optional" - with the 2-Legger getting to decide
*IF* Fido goes to the lake - there's a GATE dividing the Dry Land
area from the Swimmin Hole!

ANY Dawggie that "gets along" at Findlay will Fit Rite In at Lake Orion!!

Sounds like Sunday is the way to go then. Since it's settled on when the out of staters/towners can make it, I'll send off an email to the locals. :)

BTW.. I realize there is no pavilion at the Bark Park, however, my parents do own a table top grill and I was milling over the possibilty of having a small "picnic" of sorts at that table where we had the treats last year.

What do you guys think?

DAY: Sunday, June 26th
TIME: Noonish (eat around 1 or 2 p.m.)

Food:
Kimmy ~ Meats and Buns, Chips, Cake and Ice Cream
Phred ~ Cookies and Drinks

I'll snag the grill (or have my parents bring it). It's a little table top propane, so if my parents can't make it... does anyone know how to work those?

I will have my cell phone on me. PM if you need it. :)

Since my mom isn't going to make it, I can attempt her potato salad. No promises though!!

Kimmy, where can we get parking passes?

ramanth
06-22-2005, 08:06 AM
Amy, there should be a park ranger monitoring the entrance. You can buy a daily pass from them. However, on the chance that someone is not there, I'd suggest parking at the school.

If the ranger were to come back and you were parked in the lot, you'd probably get ticketed.

Or, if no ranger is located at the Bark Park entrance, I believe you could go to the Orion Oaks park entrance and get a day pass there. (Never been there myself... I believe the entrance is off of Clarkston Rd.)

Potato salad sounds yummy! :)

Tater Salad??

Dad sez Oh, GUDDIE!!" :D

Parking Passes??

Last year there was a Lad parked just inside the Parking Lot Entrance,
off Joslyn Road, and he was Selling Car Passes ...
(He seemed like a Volunteer - no "Ranger" Uniform or vehicle.
Don't *think* he was a "Scalper" - sellin bootleg passes!)

Motor Vehicle Day Use Fees

Valid at Addison Oaks, Groveland Oaks, Independence Oaks,
Lyon Oaks, Orion Oaks and Rose Oaks.

$5 per car per day: Oakland County residents
$10 per car per day: Non-Residents

The really nice part was -
"everyone" got the "County Resident Rate" at the gate =
$5 with no questions asked! :)

Hope that same Nice Guy is selling on Sunday!
You might try "offering" just a $5 bill,
like that's all you *expect* to pay! ;)

PS: Go to this page and >PRINT< the "Dollar Off" CUPON ...
Truth be told:
I had printed last year's Dollar Off Cupon and had it with me ...
but was so *shocked* when the seller said "$5" -
I was expecting to hear "$10" ... I plumb furgot the Buck-Off deal!
FIVE seemed better than the $9 I was hoping for!

>PRINT< your Dollar Off Cupon HERE (http://www.co.oakland.mi.us/parksrec/info_pub/coupon.html)

http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid174/pda20705858fce6798cb6a419d81983ae/f396a64b.jpg

The Red Star is ON the Dog Park Entrance -
off Joslyn Road; a bit south of W. Clarkston Road.

It's about mid-way between Flint and Detroit;
about 8-10 miles due north of downtown Pontiac, Michigan.

Here's the directions from Interstate 75:

1) Get off I-75 at: the JOSLYN RD exit- EXIT 83.

2) Turn NORTH on Joslyn Road & drive 4.2 miles on Joslyn.

3) Dog Park Entrance is on the LEFT (west) side of the road.

If you get to W. Clarkston Rd or pass an Elementary School
on the right - you went a bit too far.

You CAN park in the Elementary School Lot - the north Service Road
gate to the Dog Park is just across the road from the school.

If you want Driving Directions from MapQuest;
go to http://www.MapQuest.com and enter
[ 1255 Joslyn Rd ]
[ Lake Orion MI 48360 ]

After you get the Map; ask for "Driving Directions" and
enter your starting address.

Don't *wait* for us ...
With a four hour trip - hard to predict exactly when we'll get there.

WE're prolly just gonna Pay to Park in the Park's parking lot -
assuming there is room!

Only hang-up with using the School lot is if we stay past the time

If the Early Arrivers hang near the North End of the original
