I thought this poem was great. It's written for Abby, a 10 yr old
black Lab girl, looking to be adopted from the SanFrancisco
SPCA Shelter (got to be one of the best dog & cat shelters in the world!)
With just a variation here & there it would fit any older dog.

Abby's Valentine poem:
Abby dear is old and gray,
But she still loves to walk and play.
Pucker up, she'll kiss you plenty
Ask for ten and she'll give you twenty.
She's seen the world and knows her chops,
In her brown eyes, you'll be the tops.
She's looking for a gal or fellow
Who needs a dog who's calm and mellow
To take short jaunts and cuddle up
In a home where she's the only pup.
As dogs grow old their love expands,
They long for strokes from gentle hands.
We never know how long they'll live
But every day her love she'll give
To the special one, her Valentine,
She's asking now: "Will you be mine?"
