I had to stay up to go to the vets office about a week ago. I was heading home and saw all this stuff by the side of the road. Apparently, these people sell things all the time. What originally caught my eye was a headboard. I've been looking for one to use the two antique ceiling tins I've had quite a while now(found them on Ebay, where else?) I'm going to sand and repaint the headboard with crackle paint. Anyway, I saw this big cedar chest and couldn't believe the price! $20. It's really old. Unfortunately, the people didn't know what they had and let it get water damage. It's top is cracked but can be fixed with some clamps and wood glue. I'm going to redo it, also. Here's Doogie showing off the chest. In the inside, it's in great condition. Oh, I only had to pay $4 for the headboard.

Duke and Doogie. Doogie layed on the chest for the longest time, acting like he owned it.

I envy everyone who finds all the deals at yard sales. Every time I stop, all I see is junk that obviously nobody else wants! :D

I bought my dog sled at a yard sale! Only in the Yukon! I still paid a lot of money for it($600), but it was only two years old, custom made by a great sled maker. To buy it new would have been 2000 for just the sled. I got the sled, sled bag, some of the lines and specially made box for carrying cable clips and an axe. It even had decent plastic on the runners. I just replaced that this winter.

It's been worth every dime!

Congrats on your finds! That chest looks very nice.

I'm a antique dealer by hobby, I always find good junk that people just want to get rid of. I've been on Breyers lately and have found several for a dollar or less that I can turn around and sell for 30.

I have gotten all of my clothes (mostly skirts, blazers, suits) at Goodwill lately. One of my best finds has been a pair of jeans. If anyone here knows of a brand called "Diesel", you also know that they easily can cost $300, which is just crazy. I got a pair of them at Goodwill for $6! And, they look brand new, I nearly passed out. ;) Anyway, I went to the flea market, and, thought this print was really cool. I don't think I'll keep the frame, I don't think it adds much to the print. But, I liked the picture, so, here it is....not for everyone, but, it's cool.

That chest and sled are great finds! I love yard sales! And, I am so happy that I found such a great Goodwill. I find everything in there from Liz Claiborne to Banana Republic to Diesel to Ann Taylor, and, the stuff I've been getting is in almost new condition. Someone else's junk...... :D

Oh, and the print is entitled "Lounge Smoke."

There are always yard/garage sales around here. I've just never gone to any of them. Maybe I need to start. It loks like you can find some really good deals!

Garage sales are just antique sales in people's yards. LOL Lots of people have old things for sale that you would see in antique shops.

Our little downtown area here has all but turned into antique shops. We have a mall to shop at so the downtown buildings are antique shops. I even saw an antique shop at the mall the other day. I guess we are antique haven here now. LOL

And we have a fantastic Goodwill. Course I need to try on 50 pair of pants until I can fine one that fits right and I can buy. But for the little I pay it's worth it.

I have a chest just about like that, that I got out of someones barn, it was painted blue and under the blue was white. After a lot of work, it came out great, it's now my coffee table.

It's under Monkey. lol

I have gotten a lot of my antiques from yard sales or something like that. I got a dresser for $5 that from the outside looked bad, all painted scratch up etc. After stripping it, it was solid oak and even had the imprints of those old Ben Franklin glassed on the top, where someone must have set them everyday. It was so neat looking. Then I got a side by side out of am old horse stable, that I just love to death.

But my best find, that everyone thinks I'm nut for liking, is an old kitchen table, that looks so beat up. But I had an antique dealer come out one day and he went nuts when he saw it. Turns out it was an old puritan table and those are very rare to find now days. Puritan's didn't believe in making things that last, so to find one is special. It might look ruff to most.......but I love it.

I didn't know you liked antiques. Something else we can do one day, besides the mall. I'm an antique nut!! My goal is to have everything in my house antique, except the couch. Antique couchs never look comfortable.

The one I go to is great! I know what you mean, though, but, I have tried to make sure when I go in, I know exactly what I want. I hate trying on clothes, and, when I go shopping for new jeans, I have to try on like twenty pairs. I haven't shopped for new ones in a long time, though. ;) But, every time I've gone to the goodwill here, I've gone in thinking "ok, I need jeans." I go to the jeans section, and, look for the color blue I like, check the size and move on if it's too big. I don't think I've spent more than an hour in the store at once. And, even then, it was because I got fifteen items! :)

I just love this picture. It's so cute and funny. The first cat is really posing for the camera. What a ham. LOL

How did this get waaaaaaaaaaay back here? Anyway I just had to brag. I found a like new large habitrail cage today with five new climbing tubes and conectors, a new wheel, and a new water bottle. Normally that would be like $70 but I found it all for $2. I love when people don't know what they are selling. Now I need to finish college and move out so I can fill this cage!
