Syth hasn't had the greatest of appetites in the past few days and I've noticed he's developed a large lump at the base of his tail.

While the bump may be normal, I feel it's far too large for a gecko his size.

So he's off to see the doctor.

Wish us luck.

The vet visit went well.

Syth got a lot of attention in the waiting room. Must be people don't see many geckos.

Syth was a good boy and held very still for his exam.

He only weighs 5 oz. :(

It was an abcess. Because of his size, Dr. Beasley was hesitant to lance it, afraid that his little body couldn't take it. He wanted me to give him antibiotic injections at home and I got a bit queasy thinking about sticking a needle in Syth. :o

He showed me how to do it and the doc could tell I wouldn't be able to handle it, so he checked the abcess again and decided to lance it.

Syth was an extra good boy and held still while Dr. Beasely made two little incisions and scooped out all the gunk that was in him.

For the next ten days I have hand feed him a special diet, let him soak for 10 minutes, and then squirt an antibiotic into the wound site, twice a day.

The poor guy was so sluggish after that injection, but he looked good this morning and behaved while I fed, bathed, and medicated him. :)

Aww! Poor wittle Syth! He's soooo cute, and we definitely need to see more pictures. I hope he heals soon, and I feel your pain in medicating him! Let us know how it goes!

Poor wittle boy. :( I thought it might have been an abscess. Glad to hear he is on the mend though, and was well behaved. :)

Syth didn't have much of an appetite last night. But he behaves so well when I'm handling him. He never wants to let go of my hand though when I try to set him in his bath. *laughs* I'm so happy that he holds still when I'm putting his medicine on him though.

This morning, it took awhile, but he ate about .5 cc's of food. It may not sound like much, but compared to the .1 cc he ate last night, it's an improvement.

For the most part he's still a bit slow and groggy, but Dr. Beasley did say that the antibiotic shot he received would last three days.

I got a few pics of him taking his bath and of his wound last night.
