Kelowna Meeting Details

I just realised that we don't really have a thread explaining all the details -- unless of course you read through the entire first thread which is just annoying to do.

It is Saturday, July 9th (to the 10th for those who spend the night). We will be meeting at Glenmore Off-leash Dog Park (http://www.okdog.com/off/glenmore.htm) . I was thinking noon or early in the afternoon -- is that alright for everyone?

After a couple of hours, we are going to head up to Darley Retreat (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?s=&threadid=75298&highlight=campsite) . It will take about 40 min to drive there from the dog park. My mom is going to come to the dog park near the end to pick up Timber (Timber won't be coming to the campsite), but she is going to drive to the campsite right after dropping Timber off because she will have alot of the food, so that's good for those who don't have transportation because my mom can fit alot of people in the van. Jynnelle says that she can fit a couple of extra people in her vehicle too (I understand that some people are coming to Kelowna with their parents but don't want their parents to come up to the campsite ;) ).

I booked us the two big cabins at the campsite, but there will be several cabins left over, so we don't have to worry about fitting two people to a bed or anything. There is karaoke, foozball, a hot tub, games (we can't go without playing Balderdash! Jynnelle will make you laugh so hard :D ). I've been told that under no uncertain circumstances can we NOT have a campfire-- because apparently it's not "campish" enough without it. :rolleyes: :p

Dogs are allowed to run around freely, given that they are supervised. There are bears and cougars in the area, and though there hasn't been any in the actual campsite for years, you still see them around the area. Obviously everyone has to poop scoop for their own dogs. The dogs are allowed to sleep inside the cabins, but if you want the dog to sleep on the bed with you, bring your own blankets -- I'll be bringing extra blankets for those who can't bring their own. I am hoping that some people will bring crates or X-pens, even if they won't use them, just so that it looks like we will use them LOL (extra assurance for my grandparents :p ).

I ask that everyone brings some sort of food; doesn't matter what kind of food. I also ask that, if you can, everyone bring some money (even if it's only a couple of bucks) to help pay for the cabins. I may be family, but I still have to pay for the cabins! The lights and music and everything are run by battery, so you can understand.

Jynnelle, Ashley, and I (and possibly Tasha if she isn't busy) will be going shopping the day before the meeting, so we will get a bunch of junk lol. We want this to be a great feast, so everyone help out! :D I'll be getting the ice cream cake for sure (obviously I'm the only one that CAN since it will melt any other way lol). I guess that when we go shopping we will get the stuff that needs to be cooked or kept cold. So we can get pizza, burgers, smokies, pop/juice etc. If people could bring buns, chips, trail-mix type things, that'd be great.

I think that's about it! If anyone would like ANY more information, please don't be afraid to ask. For those who are young and want to come up to the campsite without their parents, but their parents are worried, just PM me and I can give you my phone number and your parents can talk to my mom. My mom won't be coming (as if I'd let her come LOL), but she will be able to assure your parents better than I could that it's safe up there. My grandpa usually goes down to the site every hour to check up, and there are 3 houses outside the campsite. The creek is not deep enough to drown in, and there has never been a bear or cougar attack up there (besides, we'll have plenty of dogs around to keep any animals away). Some of the people going are adults, and there will be NO alcohol. So, once again, if anyone wants to know anything else, feel free to ask. I hope this thread helps to clear up anything. It's a good thing to go back to incase you forget anything lol.

Also, if you don't know how to get to the dog park, tell me closer to the date and I'll make up some directions.

wow! I havent heard anything about this since a brief mention months ago that lin told me about. Id love to at least meet up with you guys at the dog park! unfortunately lin cant go seeing as she is now living in KY! lol

It says that it would take you just over 5 hours. That's really not too bad!

Why would they expect it to be so busy? The weekend before that is the long weekend. Are you guys not open on the long weekend or something? If you can't come I will seriously be really sad...I'm already really sad that Slick can't come...:(

A coworker told me that they're really busy during the entire summer. And there's supposed to be a big movie that weekend or something.. :confused:

It's too bad so many people have had to cancel...For this reason, I don't think we should meet at the dog park anymore. We should just go straight to the campsite.

I was thinking about bringing Timber, but now my aunt won't let me. Poor dog was so socialised when she was with me and now she's a nutcase. I guess it's for the better. I'll see if maybe she can atleast come up for a visit and see how she is, and maybe then she can stay if she's good. I'll be bringing my roomate's chihuahua, Duke. I was going to bring my friend's groenendael, except she's in heat so she can't come.

yeah I hadnt decided. i was kinda thinking not, just because it will already be a long flipping drive for me to the park, I dunno if I could handle another 2 or 3 hrs or whatever it is. if I could get the address of the park & the cabin and type it in mapquest it mgiht help me get a better idea of what Im in for. Id like to go to the cabins but Im just kinda intimidated by the drive. but I guess if Im gonna go all the way up there I may as well go to the cabins too. ;) who all is going for sure??

oh one more thing..

even if I do go to the cabins Id need to stop at the park first because brock is leash reactive and will need to meet all the dogs off leash first. plus he will be really hyper when he sees all the dogs and people and the park will let him get that all out first. and esp after that long drive, both dogs and me will need a break before continuing to the cabins. brock is also completely unreliable off leash so Ill need to keep him leashed at the cabins too, another reason he'll need a park visit first. (hes a little crazy, what can I say! lol)


AND I dunno if I asked this yet, but are there refrigerators there? Ill need one for brocks raw food

The cabins are only a 1/2 hour away from the dog park, so it's really not a big drive...I know the people that will be there for sure are me, Tikeyas_mom, Shelteez2, and schteve_d. Orangutango was supposed to come but I dont think she's coming anymore...binka_nugget might be coming...and chibi_star will probably be coming. I have to go do the dishes...but I'll be back with adresses!

I know I have an address for the dog park somewhere, but I can't find it. :o I know it's on Glenmore Drive. The campsite doesn't have an address -- but it's on Philpott Road. :)

Ill try to do a search on mapquest using just the street names, see if I can get a general time estimate. actually Ill need exact directions though, like from the border. Ive always crossed at whats that town... surrey? dunno if the other border crossing is closer to kelowna or not?

okay well according to mapquest there is no glenmore dr, only glenmore rd. and i tried looking up the park and landfill in the ca yellow pages but neither came up. neither did darley retreat. :-/

and according to mapquest its going to take me about 6 hrs!! :eek: what time are we meeting at the park??? lol hopefully not too early! mid afternoon would be nice for me.. like 2ish or so.....

Veegan....if I'm correct, you are about 2 hrs from the border?? and another 4+ hours to Kelowna so yes, 6 hours is about it.

well I cant find anyone to go with me, and I just realized my cell phone doesnt even work in canada. Im thinking it prob isnt such a good idea for me to go. its gonna be a long flipping drive and I just dont feel comfortable going alone. maybe if it were in vancouver, its so much closer and Im at least a little familiar with the area. sorry guys :( Id like to go but I just feel like I shouldnt. hopefully it will work out better next time. have fun everyone, take lots of photos for me!

Hi guys, I just got home. :) Tasha just left to go back to Alberta.

The meeting was lots of fun! Unfortunatly I didnt' have my camera until lastnight so I didn't get any pictures until then. Tasha got a whole bunch of great pictures but it turns out her memory card was defective. :( When she gets home she's going to see if she can recover the pictures at all. The guy at Future Shop said they are probably gone. There were some really good pictures on there too. :( Steve got lots of good pictures though! None of us managed to get any pictures of Tikeya -- Jynnelle didn't come up until yesterday and she didn't stay very long. I sang lots of karaoke, and Tasha finally got drunk enough to sing some with me. The loggers jammed on their guitars most of the night on Saturday too. It was fun to watch. Timber did come up after all. Her and Docker were best buddies. I did some DDR, which was fun. There was a huge ice cream cake -- so much that it practically melted lol. I accidentally left it there haha.

Next year we've decided to have the meeting on the long weekend -- everyone remember that!

i was so disapointed that i didnt get to stay for the whole thing.. i had to goto a bridal shower. and by the time i got up to the cabins everyone was gone.. jordan wasnt even there.. and she didnt show up till around 10ish.. I had school the next day so i was pretty much wanting to be out of there by 11...
i didnt get to sing, have cake, goto the dog park, visit with everyone, nothing... i am bummed out.

I am home. I got in at 10:30pm.... it was a LONG drive...but very worth it... :D

The campground was gorgeous and I had a great time. All the dogs got along really well.

I will be looking into hopefully recovering my pics tomorrow. Everyone cross their fingers that they will be found.

I did get a new card while I was there but by that time it was later in the afternoon on Sunday and so I did not get all that many pics. I am also not at home right now (I had to start a dog sitting job right when I got back to Calgary) so I am not sure when I will be able to get the few pics I have uploaded.

Steve should be getting home on Tuesday sometime so hopefully he will have his pics up by the weekend.

Now I am off to do some more laundry and shower.... everything smells like campfire.... lol
