This will probably be filled with whining, so you can leave now haha.

Anyway, I was curious about my drawings. I know I get some posts, and everyone just says 'good job', 'that's awesome' etc etc. I was wondering if people just say that to make me feel good about it? I mean, I thought I was doing pretty good with drawing. I think very negatively about myself and often think "I'll never been good at anything. I wish I could atleast draw good" etc. I thought I was improving a lot. I sometimes post my art on other forums. There are a lot of really good artists there, and even beginners too. Mostly anime though. Anyway, I posted my bloodspill drawing (http://tainted-sky.net/draw/bloodspill.jpg)

And all the comments are negative...This one especially got me

"first of all the coloring is not that good, second of all, what the hell is going on in this picture, the idea is just wrong. sorry to be so crued. but after you look at thousands and thousand of post, stuff like this just makes me wonder what going on through ppls head. anyway go to some tutorials from anywhere, eatpoo has good ones, and read up and keep practicing."

Maybe it's just me, and maybe he didn't mean it the way I'm taking it, but it hurts me...I know I should learn to take constructive crits, and I do like them, but I like them more so that they help me, not that they bash me..If someone doesn't like my art, that's totally fine. I likepeople to be honest...but (and I know it's selfish) but I wish people could be nicer about it..like "this is my opinion...blah blah.....maybe you could improve by doing this"

Anyway, stupid post. I've been feeling down lately so stupid things get to me that normally don't. Don't be suprised if I delete this after I come around and realize how silly it is

Don't care what anyone says about it - your feelings are yours! You are entitled to feel any way you want. Then the question becomes what do I do about those feelings? Its a process that you learn as you get older. Since I've been on the board, you've grown a LOT. This says a lot for your coping and learning skills.

As for your drawings, I don't always understand the subject matter, but I like to look at your technical skills which are to me pretty doggone good.

Keep up the good work - both emotionally and artistically!!

It's not a stupid post. That person should have been a little less harsh with you. I personally think your art is really good. I wouldn't say it if I didn't mean it. I don't say anything just to be nice, I'd rather just not say anything at all. I mean, if you directly ask me, I'll be honest. But, anyway, maybe just look around some of the negativity in his post and take the advice about the tutorial or whatever. There's some advice in there, it's just covered in nasty. I know what it's like to be passionate about something and have someone crap on you. It's no fun. It's natural to be bummed about it, but, just keep trucking. As long as you enjoy your art, the process and the result, that's all that really matters.

I think I know what happens on forums like that:

Here- we are not specialised in drawing, anime or whatever. We know that it is a whole world of its own and we cannot really judge that. We only see that you draw MUCH better than most of us would. And so it's easy for us to express we like it.

In a specialised forum there will be many people who try to be real specialists. And then they start to notice very small differences. Ok, so you are not a professional? So what. From our point of view you are on your best way there. But not yet arrived. Plenty of time to go the rest of the way:)

People who harshly criticize are most of the times not the ones who can do a thing really well. They only want to show their theoretical knowledge.

In anything you do: Don't compare yourself all the time with people who are better than you (unfortunately they will always exist :() but with the millions who are not better:) And don't listen to smart- a...... ( am I supposed to know a word like that?) like that would-be-kindergarten-teacher.

Audrey, your art is AMAZING! And I'm not just saying that! ;) Granted, I am not "trained" in recognizing art but I think your stuff is wonderful. Most of the world cannot do anything even 1/2 as good as your work. Do not let the words of this one person upset you. Obviously they have a problem of some sort. They are insecure and it makes them feel better to put other people down. Very small-minded of them. Do not let it bother you honey! Criticism is very hard to take, constructive or not! (My boyfriend told me at the grocery store that my breath smelled bad yesterday (after I had garlic fish for dinner!) and I got upset with him!) LOL! People have very different opinions on art, it's very subjective and that in itself is what makes it wonderful. I think you just need to find your niche in the art world and continue doing what you love.

I always look at your art when I see a thread and it is always great. The only reason I didn't comment on this particualr drawing was that I didn't see it! ;)

Cheer up dear! Don't be sad, I hate when you are sad...!

Geez...I'd tell the guy that he could talk to me when he mastered basic grammar and spelling....not only that but there is a difference betwen constructive criticisim and being an outright jack a**.

Anyway...I myself like it, and I had the hubby look at it (he's been doing computer graphic stuff for about ten yrs now) and he said that he thought the coloring was vivid and caught the eye quite well. He thinks you'd be better off using a really good percision trackball or a digital drawing pad. I don't know what you use to draw but if thats with a regular mouse, its really good! I know how much my stupid mouse likes to jump...I cant even get a good line out of mine. I can't immagine trying to even draw anything with it!

The coloring is what makes the peice distinctive. I bet people don't like it because it doesn't show T + A if you get what I mean. I notice that the more "graphic" pics get better reviews

that persons comment even offends ME and its not even my drawing! what exactly does HE draw??? I really love your drawings especially the blood spill and phantom of the opera. I like the little things like the one with the paw print hidden in the dogs spots :p

the red in blood spill is an incredible color. the person on the other forum has no clue what hes talking about, he should stop commenting on art.

please quote me and send it to him :p

For what it's worth, I agree with Barbara. Don't let the critisism
get to you. Do what you do & enjoy it.

I know what you mean, Audrey.. and I also agree with Barbara.

I've joined a few photography forums, and for the most part people like my stuff. But, there's always a few who question and critisize EVERY picture. They ask what the meaning is, why I took it, tell me I should have done this and that.

I finally stopped posting on those sites because I got sick of telling them that I took pictures JUST FOR FUN. It's something I enjoy, and occasionally like to share with others, I don't care if I'm not going to sell anything, I don't care if it's not to their standards. I'm pretty happy with my results most of the time, and that's ALL that matters to me.

Anyways, Audrey.. for what it's worth I think that's probably my favorite of your's (besides My KI ones, of course.) I love the colors and the background is especially great.

Audrey,

I do like your drawings and I don't say it 'just because' I think you're really talented. :) Don't let what those people say get to you, we know that you are very talented and we like your work :) Keep up the good work :)

I always think what you do is very good!! While I usually try and be nice, I honestly think you have a lot of talent!

Ignore people that don't offer CONSTRUCTIVE criticism...that wasn't helpful, only hurtful.

:)
