i was curious as to why german shepards are called german shepard DOGS ??? :confused:

I don't believe there is any rhyme or reason...TONS of breeds have names that end with "dog." Most people don't even realise that GSD ends in dog, since pretty much everyone just says German shepherd because it's easier.

Yeah I have wondered that, too, but I still use the abbreviation GSD ;)

They were given the official name of German Shepherd Dog
by the orginal breeders in Germany. They were used on the farms
as herding dogs.
