Well, it's a rainy nasty day here! And I went outside to let Luna & Emmie inside and noticed someone's dog had come to visit.
I checked his tag and he has a 2003 dog license for my town, called the poilce and they haven't gotten back to me yet.
He's currently out in my boarding room, looks as though he might be here for the night.
I've never had to take in someone's dog, and I'm not sure what breed(s) he is.
He's VERY sweet, and listens well, walks beautifully on lead.
Here are some quick pictures I just took of him, what are your thoughts on breed?

Probably lab/shepherd. Maybe a little golden.
Face looks pretty long -- maybe some collie. Depends on how popular irresponsable collie owners are in your area. ;)

Kara, how big is he? I was trying to figure it out from the pictures, but I wasn't sure. Is he more of a medium-sized dog (around 35-40 lbs) or is he a bigger dog?

Maybe shepard/collie, I hope you find his owners.

My first thought was Rott/Shepherd, because of the faint brown markings that appear in the pictures.

He's adorable. Please keep us updated on what's going to happen with him.

Oh, he's so sweet!! I would take him in a heartbeat, but I'm to my limit already. I hope you can find his owner soon.

Maybe a lab/setter mix? You were so nice to take him in out of the rain. Hopefully the police can locate his owners soon.
He is a cutie.

What a handsome guy! From the first couple pics, I was going to guess golden or lab and shepherd, but in this picture:

His coat reminds me a lot of a rough collie's in texture, and his slender/delicate body shape reminds me of collie too in that photo. I saw that picture and immediately was reminded of my RB Willie. But he could just be a multiple mix of several breeds, hard to tell! He's gorgeous though and he looks well cared for, I'm betting someone lost their baby!

Well, the police called. They found an old record of his owners but they are not answering the phone and do not have an answering machine. And I guess they can't give me any of their personal information.
I just fed him, and he ate it all. Also noticed he has a white stripe on his chest. He's a really sweet boy...
The police said they will keep trying to call and let me know, if they can't get ahold of him they will send an officer to come get him and bring him to the local vet (whom i am good friends with).

Looks like he has some sort of setter in him, irish or something?

He is one pretty dog. I think he looks like a golden retriever / german shepherd to me.

Looks like a Flat-coated Retreiver to me, or maybe part Gordon Setter. Lovely, and I hope he and his people are reunited - and I am sure they will be grateful for you taking him in!

Aw, pretty sweet looking! I don't think he is any setter, I think he is like NiƱo in that he is just far too mixed to beable to really tell any breeds.:D

When I let him out in the kennel this evening for him to potty, his owners drove by and saw him. So he's safely home. I called the police to tell them he was home, and they asked if I caught the owners name. I thought they were asking to make sure it was the correct people, but they wanted to make sure they had the right owners so they could call and find out why the dog hasn't been registered with the town since 2003!! Guess they should keep a better hold of their pooch!

Wow, that was a coincidence. Do they live in your neighborhood? Did they mention what his name was? He does look like an older fellow, so you probably did a big favor by taking him in. Who knows what misfortune could have occurred had he been left to wonder around.
