Since I have no food in my house and I'm too lazy to go to the store, I think Alexa and I are going to order some Chinese food. So, that means sweet and sour chicken for me.

In a pinch (or it's off hours, no one feels like cooking) it can be handy to have some frozen "micro-food" in the freezer. If it's store bought I would have to stick with Stouffers.

Last night I grilled this outrageous hunk of primo steak. I also had some saute'd mushrooms and ramps a friend had brought in from a hike along the BlueRidge Mountains. YUM, ramps! Also some baked potatoes and sugar snap peas. When my daughter-in-law and I cook (often) - we ROCK! Had a little side of Bernaise sause (OK, ready made  ). It was wonderful :D

I forgot take dinner out of the freezer yesterday so last night I had a grilled cheese sandwich with onion.

Tonight I've got some hamburger I need to do something with. Got no mashed potatoes so I guess Shephard's Pie is out of the question. Maybe just a quick burger with lettuce and tomato.

lbaker
05-04-2005, 09:41 AM
Ramps grow in the wild in forests, usually in higher elevations. It's a root plant that tastes like a cross between garlic and shallots. They are like raspberries in that they only grow in the wild for about 4 weeks a year. In the mountains and hollars of South Carolina, Georgia etc they have "Ramp Festivals" every Spring. Very tasty but potent (don't stand behind someone that's been eating them :o ) :D

Mmmmm....that's exactly how my grandma used to make her stuffed mushrooms, but without the crab! Good idea!!

Dinner was a Turkey Pannido (no sauce) from Jack in the Box. Yum!!

Does anyone else own a mushroom brush? Or even know what it is? I have one I bought years ago and love it. Just make sure that - if possible - you can get Chesapeake Bay crab meat. But, I'm lucky that way ;) and would selfishly like to keep it for myself.

I *DID* have one and it works so well for mushrooms - just soft enough to really clean them while they are dry - but LOST it in our last move I think. I bet a gourmet shop or good cooking store would have them - think??

Oh yeah Sirrahbed.. I'm sure they have them but what do you want to bet that they are now "yuppy stuff" and cost a fortune? Silly's. I guess we can just rub shrooms off and make it work

Grilled steaks, baked potatoes, sourdough bread and fresh peas. I shelled the peas out on the back porch while waiting for the coals to get ready. I just love shelling fresh peas. It's FUN! Sometimes when they "pop" out of the pod onto the floor the dogs race to catch them. Silly mutts don't usually even like peas but this is a game :D
