Ok, so I know this is nothing major or nothing to get worried over so why do I feel so nervous:confused:

I found a small lump on my left breast right under the nipple last week. I probably wouldn't have even noticed it if it weren't for the hurting (I'm very bad because I don't do regular montly breast exams:o) It was very tender so the first thing I did was make a dr visit. Of course he's sending me to the hospital for a mamogram & a ultrasound (7:45 tomorrow morning), and I go to a surgeon on the 5th to find out my results.
So please be thinking of me...I just know it's going to hurt like crazy and I DON"T handle pain very well!

Now, have any of you ever found anything like this before or know anyone who has? What was the prognosis & what did they have to do?

Anna,

You always know I'm here for you. I will be thinking of you and sending out lots of positive thoughts and prayers. I know how much you are worried about pain and discomfort. You have to try to block that part out and do what you have to do. You can do it. I'll be waiting to hear from you.

Mark,

You make sure you are extra special sweet to your wife tomorrow! None of that goober behavior! You hear me! ;)

Lots of love and hugs......Robin

Anna,
Just letting you know I went through the same thing in October of this year so I can hear where your coming from. There should be a thread I made in here somewhere I'll try to find it. I went to my dr. and he then sent me to a specialist who ran some tests the test he did first was an ultrasound to see where it was and if there was actually anything there. After that the second test they did was they took samples from it ( I was frozen I didn't feel anything) The results came back it was not cancer, but it was the type that could turn into cancer if left alone. So I had to have it removed a couple weeks later in surgery. If you have any questions feel free to PM me. You will be in my thoughts.
Jodie

My mom found a lump a few years ago that turned out to be a cyst. They did the mamogram/ultrasound thing as well.

Lots of prayers, good wishes and thoughts for tomorrow.

Anna,

I have what they call Fibrocystic Disease. It basically means I have "cottage cheese boobs". I've had it since I was 18. Every few years I find lumps, they remove them and they are ALWAYS benign.

You have every right to be nervous. I always am too when I find a new one. But we're here for you. I'm sending thoughts and prayers your way honey and LOTS of hugs.

i do mammograms. there is a foam pad, called "soft touch mammo pad" that goes under your breast on top of the cassette, it imakes the mammo warmer and some softer. ask for it, some places do charge $5 for it, the hospital group i work for uses them for everyone and it's a freebie. the technologist will place a bb marker on the area that you found, then do the basic views, and what ever else the radiologist asks for the ultrasound is done. at my place, the radiologist will review the studies and talk to you afterwards to give you the results. some women will if there doctor allows it, take a mild pain reliever about 1 hour before the test. anna, many many women, those of us in middle age( ;) )discover a lump, and usually mostly it's a benign process, but scary none the less. good luck, please keep us posted, and if you have questions, you can PM me. Hoping all goes well with your doc visit, and that the results are nothing to worry about. ;) Glad you're getting checked to put your mind at ease. ;) Here's a chuckle for today...........(hopefully it'll be over and done with when you read this).

The Mammogram poem

For years and years they told me, Be careful of your breasts. Don't ever squeeze or bruise them. And give them monthly tests.

So I heeded all their warnings, And protected them by law. Guarded them very carefully, And I always wore my bra.

After 30 years of astute care, My gyno, Dr. Pruitt, Said I should get a Mammogram.

"O.K," I said, "let's do it."

"Stand up here real close" she said, (She got my boob in line,) "And tell me when it hurts," she said, "Ah yes! Right there, that's fine."

She stepped upon a pedal, I could not believe my eyes! A plastic plate came slamming down, My hooter's in a vice!

My skin was stretched and mangled, From underneath my chin. My poor boob was being squashed, To Swedish Pancake thin.

Excruciating pain I felt, Within it's vice-like grip. A prisoner in this vicious thing, My poor defenseless tit!

"Take a deep breath" she said to me, Who does she think she's kidding?!? My chest is mashed in her machine, And woozy I am getting.

"There, that's good," I heard her say, (The room was slowly swaying.) "Now, let's have a go at the other one."

Have mercy, I was praying.

It squeezed me from both up and down, It squeezed me from both sides. I'll bet SHE'S never had this done, To HER tender little hide.

Next time that they make me do this, I will request a blindfold. I have no wish to see again, My knockers getting steamrolled.

If I had no problem when I came in, I surely have one now. If there had been a cyst in there, It would have gone "ker-pow!"

This machine was created by a man, Of this, I have no doubt. I'd like to stick his balls in there, And see how THEY come out.

Anna, definitely positive thoughts and prayers going out to you. My bosses wife had the same thing and it turned out to be nothing. She was particularly shaken because it hadn't been that long since she had some skin cancer removed from her face - for the third time!

I always tend to look on the bright side of things and it appears to me that you definitely caught it early, so even if there is a problem with it, those problems will be minimized by your quick action taking.

I've only had one mammogram so far. A "base-line" they did when I was 40, and I was really hoping technology would improve and they'd come up with a better way to do this before I need another one, so I can definitely relate to your apprehension. An ultrasound on the other hand - piece of cake! They put some goopy stuff on you and just rub a nice rounded mouse-type device on you taking pictures now and then. And they usually warm the goopy stuff too, so it's not freezing cold.

Anway, good luck tomorrow and we'll all be thinking about you! :)

I had a baseline Mammogram @ 35, then didn't have another until my 40th. Well happy 40th birthday to me. It came back with a questionable area, so I had to have a lumpectomy and thank God it wasn't cancer, but every year when I go to have it done I go into shock, I get myself so worked up and scared. I know just how you feel and how worried you are. You will be in my prayers and hopefully it will be nothing. Many women have cysts that come and go too. Better to be safe than sorry though.

Well it's all done and over with now and boy let me tell you, having the one that was hurting done was almost the most painful thing I've ever felt:eek: I would have cried if it would have done any good (I'm still really, really sore today). Luckily the right one didn't hurt nearly as bad.
The dr there did say the mammogram looked different than before so we will see what the surgeon has to say (on the 5th), but they couldn't find anything on the ultrasound (which is good!)
I'm sure it's nothing I just want it to quit hurting:)

Mark was a good husband and took me out for breakfast afterwards and even bought me a flower (I love that man of mine!):D

Anna I am so happy that all looks well, and you will still be in my thoughts, hoping the surgeon has good news for you, I am distressed to hear so many women complaining how bad mammograms are, this is not right, it should be uncomfortable, not excruciating, I was told the mammogram is as good as your technician, and that squeezing down your breast so damn far is totally un-necessary, by whom you ask? the technician doing my mammogram, I have had two and both were not painful, only mildly sore.

Good luck Anna, positive thoughts are beaming your way all the way from Aotearoa.:)

That's what the dr told me this afternoon.

I had to go again this moring for another mammo, guess they thought they seen something and had to get a couple of different pictures. Oh how fun that was, now I'm sore again:rolleyes:
But luckily they say they didn't see anything to worry about at this time and if I'm still having the same kind of pain in 3 months come back and we'll do it again, sounds like fun...NOT:p
He has no explainiation as to why I'm so sore (could be fibroids but not sure, maybe a hormonal thing). He said just take some motrin when it hurts, um...that would be all the time, cut down on caffeine...I hardly have it now.

So like I told him basically all this was for nothing (but of course it could have been something, guess I have to look at it like that) and I just have to "live" with the pain.

I honestly don't mean to complain but I'm just upset that we didn't find a reason as to why I'm so sore. Hopefully it will just go away on it's own.

Thanks again everyone for all your thoughts and prayers, they mean the world to me and I just wanted to let you know that I'm fine:)

glad to hear there is no physical problem found on teh mamms and ultrasound. sorry that you're still having the pain. there are soooo many causes for breast pain, poorly fitted bras, thyroid pain, nerve pain, beside the cyclic and caffine related ones (BTW no one will ever get my coffee away from me!!). it can be very frustrating to deal with. and rebound pain from anti imflammatories is a possibility, good luck to finding the cause, and soon!
