I got up real early this morning and walked the fur kids. It was really dark and cloudy out so the pictures are kind of dark.

Cloudy morning in Colorado

Sure. A pinch collar pinches your dog. Dogs must love it.

I would not use anything that would hurt Jada. I love her with all my heart. I went to a pit bull board and the people on that board love their dogs also. I asked them what I could use to help Jada stop pulling when we walk. She is a very strong dog and I need to have some control over her. They told me to use the prong collar for awhile then switch back to a regular collar.

Jada does not mind the collar at all. It's not hurting her. When she sees me get out the collar she gets totally excited. I know a lot of people hate them but I was just taking the advise I was given from pit bull owners.

Thank you Barbra! I feel bad that fur and feathers thinks I would hurt Jada. I would never in a million years use something that hurt her.:(

We all know that. It's obvious by looking into Jada's sweet face. :)

No, I haven't tried the gentle leader but I think I will get one and give it a try. I have heard a lot of good things about them. Thanks for the suggestion.:)

unless you've walked or tried to walk with a pit bull on the end of your leash, you don't know.....MAXIMUS thinks he is supposed to pull....do you really think we would hurt our beloveds?
we have tried a halty, and all that did was rub a line of fur off his pretty nose.....i've not heard of a gentle lead, but i will look into it.

 as long as their not yelping, scratching, crying, howling, or running from their owner everytime s/he gets the collar out ... I seriously, seriously doubt it hurts them.
Jada looks completely relaxed and not distressed in any way, in the pics.

You've got absolutely beautiful puppers :) I looooove Jada's color!!

Jada, was momma not letting you RUN?
You are beautiful!

I love prong collars, we have tried slip/chokes, halti, sporn halter, harness, martingales, and regular old buckle collars. Niño runs up to it and basically puts his head through it before I could get it on! I really hate choke chains for one because they leave Niño pulling even harder and caughfing and hacking.

Fur and Feathers...I don't want to get involved in this too much, nor do I want to steal the thread away from the Beautiful Jada...

But just for curiosity sake...I see birds in your profile...do you have large dogs and have experienced the prong collars personally?

Yes, I have a Great Dane mix. I have not introduced him yet, however. Very lazy. :o

Edited to add: I actually introduced him a very long time ago, under a different name. Needless to say, I lost my log-in information (again!!!). He was only a very small pup then.

As soon as I get home, I will. I'm babysitting the birds you see in my signature right now, at my mom's apartment. He looks very similar to one of Kfamr's dogs. I forgot the name. :( :o

sorry, I just get mad when people have not experience what it is like to dread walking your dog because of the pulling and to get VERY mad at your dog and everyone else for exessive pulling.

I'm not the only one who questioned you, don't target me. You chose to criticize someone on a dog product, in a post about 2 nice pittie pictures. Expect negative responses.

She is absolutely stunning! As is the morning shot, but of course the Jada pics are my favorite :D.

As a side note, you may find that Jada is pretty miserable with a halti on. I used a halti on Tommy for almost two years when walking in the neighborhood because he's stronger than me and would startle at things and I was afraid he'd startle and yank out into the street. He was SO miserable with the halti, no matter how much I gave him treats while wearing it, no matter how often I used it to get him used to it, he was ALWAYS miserable and trembled when I took it out. In fact he actually panicked more when he startled and felt it tighten around his face.

Some dogs do fine with them but some are much more miserable with them than they would be with the prong collar (which I've actually never seen a dog look miserable wearing unless the owner was misusing it).

I have to agree with you 100%. I used a prong on Dale, occasionally. If i was walking him, and had Christian with me, I had to...he was too big and strong, if there was any temptations, i could not risk him pulling me...somethings you can not predict on a walk, and so the prong gave me complete control. Swissie can pull 1000's of pounds carting and he was fully capable of pulling me, if he really wanted to. I know Pits are strong too...so i totally understand you using one.

And i agree with Jessica, Dale did not mind having the prong on at all...when he would see it come out, he would actually get excited, and know a walk was going to happen...he would go into a sit and i would put it on him and he would get a treat. There was slack to it, so only if he was pulling would he feel a pinch...if he walked normal, it had slack and was like any other collar.

Anyway, sorry that your thread had to be sidetracked with this, but none the less....as I said, she is beautiful and we were lucky to be able to share in the pics!!
