Help Pay For Gypsy's Vet Bills
Thursday, April 14, 2005
An elderly woman found "Gypsy" Monday morning on Wilkinson Boulevard near Belmont. She thought the dog was dead, but when she looked closely Gypsy was alive.

Gypsy was immediately taken to Eastridge Animal Hospital in Gastonia. Doctors did not know if Gypsy was going to die. At first, the elderly woman thought Gypsy was hit by a car, but doctors say she was used in dog fighting, then left for dead.

Her ears have been cropped down to her head probably by her old "owners" in the typical "pit bull" mutilated fashion.

WBTV News spoke to Gaston County Animal Control Thursday night. They said it's difficult to charge someone with animal fighting, because you need a witness or videotape to document the staged event.

Most are charged with animal cruelty.

In Gypsy's case, no one has even come forward to claim her

If you would like to donate money toward "Gypsy's" recovery please visit;

May whomever was responsible for that rot eternally in hell. There's not a place hot enough for them. I pray Gypsy will make it through and find the love she truly deserves. This breaks my heart.

Thats beyond heartbreaking!:( Sadly, it happens every day. I did a lot of research on pit bulls before we got Jada. There is so much money in dog fighting. They will bet as much as 65 thousand dollars on a fight. I was shocked when I read that. How can people be involved in that crap let alone bet that much money on it? I found an article that said Dmx (the rapper) is into pit bull fighting and he also promotes it. After I read that I told my son not to play his cd's around me anymore. I posted a site to Accord it's called Pit Bull sad reality. If any of you want to see what goes on with the pit bulls every single day take a look at it.
It's in the thread, news flash started by Accord.

Pj's mom the people that use the pit bulls to fight crop their ears as short as they can. I guess they do that so the dogs cant grab ahold of each others ears. It's so sad and sick.

Oh my God.:( I can't even imagine the pain she must be
going through.:(

If we as a society have to increase the penalty for dog fighting
to life in prison with no parole, I say do it. I personally would
not mind shooting the slime that allowed & encouraged this to
happen.

I just received an update email. Not sure if it's because I donated, or wrote to Gypsy or both.

Gypsy’s condition continues to improve daily and we are beginning to see more of her spirit and personality.

Every morning she is standing up in her crate waiting to go out and pee. She eagerly eats her breakfast, lunch and dinner. Gypsy has started wagging her tail when people speak to her and she gives kisses to the special volunteers who sit with her during the day to keep her company.

Since it keeps coming up, let’s address the issue of euthanasia. Many people think Gypsy has suffered enough and we should put her to sleep. At Tri-County Animal Rescue, we let the animals make this decision. If they are fighting to live, than we help them fight. If they have decided it’s time to go, than we help them on their journey. Gypsy very much wants to live.

The sad part is once they are used for fighting they can't be rehabilitated because as soon as they see another dog they go into fighting mode. After she is healthy I bet they will test this and I will prey she is not aggressive towards other dogs.

Pit-bull horribly mutilated - (Gaston County, NC - US)
Crime Date: 04/11/2005
Case Status: Open
Case Photos: Available - Click Here

Abusers/Suspects:
*Suspect(s) Unknown - Need your help!

Case Report

A horribly mutilated pit-bull, named Gypsy, was found on Monday morning, April 11, 2005 in Gaston County, North Carolina. She had been dumped on a main highway (Wilkinson Blvd) that connects Gaston County with Charlotte/Mecklenburg County. Her wounds appear to be the result of dogfighting.

Her injuries were so severe, her right-front leg had to be amputated due to the extent of mutilation and infection. According to reports, the flesh on her face was literally rotting off, and when she first arrived at Tri-County Animal Rescue, her mouth was "nothing but pus". Tri-County Animal Rescue stated that the dog was "a bloody mess" when she was found on the roadside.

No one has been charged and no arrests have been made. A reward was offered on April 19 by a doctor in Kentucky for information leading to an arrest, however so far, the authorities do not appear to be actively pursuing this case. A report was filed with Cramerton Police Department, but no further action has been taken.

Veterinary specialists in reconstructive surgery are being contacted in the hopes of rebuilding Gypsy's face.

If you have information about this case, call Animal Control at 704-922-8677. If you would like to make a donation for Gypsy's vet care, or to donate to the reward fund being established for the arrest of the person(s) responsible, please visit Tri-County Animal Rescue or send a check or money order to:

No one has been charged and no arrests have been made. A report was filed with Cramerton Police Department, but no further action has been taken. Other recent reports of dog-fighting have gone un-investigated in Gaston County. Pet-Abuse.Com feels that this demonstrates a frightening trend around a very serious crime.

Please take a moment to send a polite letter to Mr. Lands, asking that he vigorously investigate and prosecute dog-fighting crimes in Gaston County. You can write a letter and mail it to the address listed below, or fax it to (704) 852-3292 - or use our webfax form below to send a fax right from this web page site;

Keep those letters pouring in, Gaston Co is going to start an investigation, Thanks to all that have sent letters, money and such for Gyspy's cause.

http://www.pet-abuse.com/cases/4402/

On April 26, Pet-Abuse.Com was contacted by Stephanie Hamlin, Assistant District Attorney for Gaston County in response to the hundreds of letters from the public they have received regarding the atrocities committed against Gypsy. In her letter, she stated that the members of the Gaston County District Attorney's office are very interested in prosecuting the Gypsy case. Tri-County Animal Rescue and Pet-Abuse.Com are currently working with the DA's office to assist them with recent leads, and we ask that anyone with additional leads or suspects please call Animal Control at 704-922-8677 or the DA's office 704.852-3113 . Letters to the prosecutor have poured in from all over the country, and some as far away as Canada, Japan and New Zealand.
