View Full Version : Does Your Pet Sleep On Their Back?

Pam
11-03-2001, 07:29 AM
This morning as I was watching Bella sleep in her usual "on her back position" I was wondering how many pets do this. Out of the other four other poodles that I have had, though they loved having tummy rubs, the only one who constantly slept on her back was Whitney, my other standard poodle. My cats are different too. While Trevor can often be found asleep on his back, I have never found Andy in any other position except a curled up little ball when he is asleep. How about your pets?

Hannah frequently sleeps on her back but since that position requires enough room to stretch out in, most of the time she has to accommodate her style to where she is.

Tucker is the "spooner" in our family. He and I are usually in a typical spoon position, him spooning me or me spooning him. Once in a while we are back to back.

Rachel I am getting a crick in my neck just looking at that picture of Hannah! LOL! :D

What cute pictures, the kitties are so pretty and the picture of Hannah and Tucker is so cute, they look so relaxed. Rachel do they stick together like glue, Perry has to be with Daisy or he will cry. He follows her everywhere.
Pam, no I have never seen either of them sleep on their back. The only time they get on their back is to get their tummy rubbed.
Once in a while I will get Daisy on her back in the rocking chair and say look at my little baby and sing Daisy, Daisy, that lasts for about five minutes. :D

We wish Kobie and Eli wouldn't sleep on their backs! When it's warm during spring and summer, they splay themselves out on the bed under the ceiling fan. (Keeping their tummies cool, perhaps?) They have no idea how much space they take up laying like that. Paul and I love winter because they finally get to curl up into tight, small little balls! :D Wish I had a picture, but alas...

Both Dixie and Dusty sleep on their backs. It is the cutest thing cause then I don't have a hard time giving them tummy rubs and kisses.

Lolly loves sleeping on her back, and she frequently does it with all four paws in the air!! :D

Reece never does though. Shiloh does it occasionally.

Aly, Never tire of seeing pictures of your gang! I guess Lolly does sleep on her back -she looks at ease.
Buddy likes to lay on his back when he is outside in the sun otherwise I don't think I have seen him in that position in the houde.

Aly, Sammi is right. We could never tire of seeing pictures of your little ones! How cute!!! Guess what? Bella has (or I should say had) the exact same bed that Lolly is sleeping in. She outgrew it months ago and now Andy often naps in it. This morning I tiptoed out of bed to get my camera and try and snap a shot of her sleeping (feet up in the air) and of course she heard me and was up on all fours in no time. :D Maybe I'll catch her later on during one of her naps.

My big cat Murf sleeps on his back, with his feet curled next to his body - but he NEVER lets me take a picture. Apparently he was a lawyer in a former life, because he says "Sleep on my back? Prove it!" ;)

The pictures are adorable - wish I could have taken a shot of my Braydee last night. He was asleep on his back and his head was hanging off the edge of the chair. So cute seeing those cute paws in the air. It would have made the best picture. I guess I should have my camera near by at all times - you never know when that cuteness is gonna show!!

Does this answer the question? :p
http://www.mygreyhound.com/a/t/tack1.jpg

Most greyhounds do this; it's called it "roaching," as in cockroach. Seeing Buddy roach is actually one of the reasons that we fell in love with him! He was just a day off the track, and he was walked in a parade to promote greyhound adoption. After the parade, the adoption group went to a tent for a few hours, where the dogs could be shown off. Buddy was tired from the walk, and he just turned onto his back and dozed off! Hundreds of people milling around, and he was sound aspleep on his back! :D I saw that and said to the adoption group president "That one - we're adopting that one!"
Paula roaches too, but she usually likes to be propped up by something. We've been woken up many times in the middle of the night by her toe nails scraping the wall and she tries to get comfy!
Pup roaches too - she gets very flat when she does it!
Boo can't roach - she tries, but just can't balance there! :D

I've always heard that if your pet sleeps on its back, it is the ultimate sign of trust. Congratulations to all of you who are so lucky to be trusted!! :D All of the pictures are marvelous, even if the little girls aren't modest at all!!! :o:

None of mine sleep on their backs. :( Lilly and Honey only flip to their backs when they are wanting a belly scratch, or when they are being submissive. It is sort of sad....but at least they will allow me to scratch their bellies. Mimi and Butter are TOTALLY against being touched on their tummies at all. In over 12 years, Mimi has never had her belly brushed. I like what is left of my hands and arms, and they would be shredded if I attempted to touch or brush!

No pics of my babies sleeping yet, but yes, both of them will sometimes sleep on their backs. I think it's the cutest thing! It's so tempting to give them kisses on those fuzzy bellies! I can do that with Danny, but with Elvis, belly-touching is a no-no!

AWWWWWWWWW...so cute so cute!!! I love all the pics of everyone's babies on their backs! Too precious :) My mom and dad's cat Socks sleeps on his back all the time and it looks just like Casper's picture! It's so cute when he does that! I'll have to scan some pics of him and post them. My cat Marius lays on his back, and I caught him doing it once, but the camera woke him up. Needless to say, the pic is still cute!! I just wanna mush my face in that furry belly!!!

Thelma & Weezie both sleep on their backs often, and permit lots of belly rubs.

But if I try a belly kiss ... forget it!

Wolflady, I love that picture of Marius! Are those softpaws on his claws? LOL, I didn't know they came in colors! :D :D

wolflady
11-06-2001, 11:26 AM
LOL LOL :D Yup! He's sporting his 'patriotic' soft paws colors!! I actually chose the colors initially because it would be easy for me to tell when they fell off and it was time to apply new ones! He's pretty good about me handling his paws and applying the caps...but he does fuss occasionally  All in all it works out great for all of us!! :D :D

Wolflady,

Marius is TOO CUTE with those patriotic paw covers. Congrats on a gorgeous shot of your precious fur-kid.

I'm still trying for a shot of my fur-kids on their backs. Although they do it fairly often, my coming up on them with a camera encourages Cassy to turn over and go into "ham" routine :D and Livvy to turn over and try to stroll away  ! Have you ever wondered how I got so many back shots of her?

wolflady
11-06-2001, 06:17 PM
Amberlee :D :D LOL LOL. Cats are funny that way...they do something cute ON PURPOSE when there's no camera handy...and when you can get the camera...they always manage to move about is a "ha ha ha can't catch me!!!" fashion! Gotta get 'em when they least expect it.... :D :) LOL LOL

Well I have been trying to get a picture of Bella asleep on her back but she is a light sleeper and every time I try to tiptoe and get the camera she moves. Yesterday I got her a new toy and I thought I'd post this picture because she also plays on her back! :)

http://wsphotofews.excite.com/011/5b/kZ/WD/7i56120.jpg

For now it's a squeaky toy. I'd say it has about a week before it becomes a silent toy! The little pile of orange/purple rags next to her was once a stuffed squeaky toy!

This was taken five minutes after getting the toy. I think the look on her face says it all. "MINE!!!!! Don't even think you are taking it back!" :D

Here's Brianna -- Edwina's cousin. Brianna belongs to my 8 year old niece and went along to a family reunion in Pennsylvania this summer. She was like a slinky and would sleep/play with anyone!

Edwina's Secretary...What a great picture! When my cats are asleep in my lap nothing can make me get up, no doorbell, no phone, etc. This picture goes way beyond precious!! I would never be able to move with that sweetie sleeping on my lap!

Rachel, once again Tucker has captured the essence of relaxation!

These pics are TOO cute! All of them! Aren't they just so sweet "belly up!" As of last night, I finally got a shot of EVERYONE in the supine position! (Except Squeekers; if I were ever to find HIM belly up, well... :( ) Of course, the Princess of Pillows would NEVER allow herself to photographed in such a compromising position! Rachel, I think your daughter spends ENTIRELY too much time wathcing TV!! :D :D :D
