My 3 yr old Rat Terrier chews on her front paw nails. She chews them down so much I don't really need to get them clipped. She's done it since she was a puppy. Possibly she does it since she hates to get her nails clipped and this way she does it herself. Do anybody else's dogs chew on their nails?

But if you can ever remember how you taught your dog that, I believe quite a few of us would be interested! :D

I wish I knew so I could help you all out, I have no clue where she got it from.

My Millie does this all the time, but only on her back nails so I still have to trim her front nails. Sometimes when she does it, she seems like she ripping them out, she pulls so hard.

Tito does it on his "extra" toes (I can't remember the name for the extra toe on the hind paws). I usually don't let him because I am scared he wil chew too much off.

On a side note, he HATES having his nails clipped or anyone touching his paws. He starts screaming!!! It's the strangest noise I have ever heard come from a dog.
