This from the New England Regional Office of the Humane Society:
Animal protection organizations enjoyed a significant victory with the passage of L.D.1679, "An Act to Increase the Penalties for Animal Cruelty."
The new law expands the definition of animal cruelty, establishes the category of aggravated animal cruelty, raises fines for both civil and criminal convictions, and increases the penalty from misdemeanor to a felony for repeat offenders and for all convictions of aggravated animal cruelty.
Congratulations to the Maine Legislature and the animal advocates for the passage of this law!

Congrats to the State of Maine - hope this law will filter through the rest of the country - all states need to get tougher on these cowards - stiffer fines, longer jail time and of course the label of felon.

CONGRADULATIONS TO Maine, if only all states would follow through, that would be a step forward.

Thanks for sharing that, Alicia. What wonderful news. If only every state, county, city, country would take that stance!!! We'd be in a lot better shape!! :(
