Yesterday was the Bahrain SPCAĆ” annual fundraiser Dog Walk. It was a 4 km sponsored walk in the desert here in Bahrain, and we raised (last count) around $8000 towards the new shelter we hope to complete this year. There were around 70 dogs, of all shapes and sizes!

As I don't have any dogs in Bahrain (my two, Sally and Spike, live with my MIL in South Africa) we "hired" two dogs from the shelter for the day.

Thought you might like to see some pics!

This is GAVIN, the shelter dog I walked. He has been in the shelter since he was a puppy and is now around 18 months old. He was so excited to get out on the leash, and pulled me along for the first KM, then he settled down a bit!

My son (Cameron) with his friend Tristan and GAVIN and SAMSON, two shelter dogs:

Tristan brought his little dog DUMPY along too - can you believe those short little legs managed 4 KM ???

By the end, Gavin was SO HOT he climbed into one of the drinking tubs!

Great pictures, Julie! Wow, it sure looks gorgeous, but hot there!
How wonderful it was for you to 'borrow' a dog for the day and participate. :D

Thanks Kay!! It WAS hot - around 35 degrees C - and VER windy and sandy too! (35 is nothing though - it will hit the mid-50's within the next couple of months!!)

I really miss having dogs in my life - I have always owned dogs, since I was little :( Logistically I just can't figure out a way to have "inside only" cats and an dog who would need access to the garden - plus I can't really afford to ship any more animals when I leave, so I guess I will have to wait a while for more dogs!!

That was such a sweet thing you did there, Julie!! What a neat happening that was! I wish they would do that here too.

That bath sure was welcome in that heat!! Was there a shower for the humans too;) :D

Thank you for cross-posting! And congratulations for raising so much money. The dogs did very well regarding the heat and that baby camel is so darling:)

Great pics! Looks like fun. When I was scrolling down I quickly glimpsed the baby camel and thought it was a dog. I thought "What an ugly dog..." LOL.

How fun! I just love those walks, I've taken Tasha, Tommy, and RB Willie on our local humane society annual fund raising walk, always love seeing all the pups and people having such a good time. I have never seen a black camel! That is adorable! I love the pic of Gavin laying in the drinking tub :D
