the other day the host of another forum i go to posted the lyrics to "The Cat's in the Cradle". she titled the post Take time for you Kids. this song has meant a lot to me personally for a long time. well, i got to thinking about this the other day, as i told King, "Not now, maybe later." then later, i said, "Not now, I'm tired." the next day came, and i said "I'm a bit busy." sure i paid a bit of attention to him for a bit, but not really spent true quality time w/ him. he's not going to be around forever. i thought, i'd like to put emphasis on this song, and have you think about your pets. many of us remember family after hearing this., but ...our pets often are shoved to the side when we don't have time. man! i cried when i realized how much i've ignored him lately. Today, he got a nice long walk, and we tried out the new side walk a ways away.

and isn't it just like our pets to say "that's ok."

THE CAT'S IN THE CRADLE, BY CHAPMAN

A child arrived just the other day,
came to the world in the usual way,
But there were planes to catch
and bills to pay, he learned to walk while I was away
He was talking before I knew it and as he grew
he said I'm going to be like you Dad,
you know I'm going to be like you.

And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

My son turned 10 just the other day,
Said thanks for the ball now c'mon let's play
Will you teach me to throw, I said not today,
I've got a lot to do, he said that's ok
And he walked away and he smiled and he said
You know I'm going to be like you, Dad,
you know I'm going to be like you.

And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

He came from college just the other day,
so much like a man I just had to say,
I'm proud of you, won't you sit for a while
He shook his head and said with a smile,
What I'm feeling like, Dad, is to borrow the car keys
See you later can I have them please.

And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

I've long since retired and my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I'd like to see you, if you don't mind
He said I'd love to Dad, if I could find the time
You see my new job's a hassle and the kids have the flu
But it's sure nice talking you Dad, it's been real nice talking to you.
And as I hung up the phone it occured to me
He'd grown up just like me, my boy was just like me.

And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

And the cat's in the cradle,
and the silver spoon, Little Boy Blue,
and the Man in the Moon,
When you coming home son, I don't know when
We'll get together then, you know we'll have a good time then.

When ever I hear that song I think of many things that I put off (calling/writing).
This is a good reminder of the many times I tell my Buddy Boy "later" just as I did this morning. Pets don't complain. We will be doing some playing after I sign off.

BTW, it's by Harry Chapin, not Chapman.

Crow,
I heard that old song the other day also.
Must be getting a lot of 'air time' lately.
I agree with you about not putting off our
fur-kids too long. They are gone all to soon anyway...Since 9/11/01 , a lot of people are
trying to live more 'in the moment'.I am too.
Thanks, for the reminder!!!

your welcome.

hmmm...wonder what station you listen to? around these parts they havn't played it much.

oh gawd! i can't think of the song right now, but someone recently re-did another oldie and it sounds almost exactly like the orriginal.

my generation usually only knows of TCITC being done by Ugly Kid Joe

as i've been getting older, i've been trying to live in the moment. i'm actually starting to get some "age" to my features. and my teen years are slipping away from me. (though i'm finally startng to look like i might just be 18, rather then 21. ...though i feel about 40 the way my body hurts all the time.) and if i could go back, i would have spent less time on homework, and more time w/ friends. it's so odd how certain things seem so important at the moment, but in the end it didn't matter. (and i was pretty much a straight A student.) yeah, i'm defintly starting to live for the moment. ...like even if we can't afford it, my fiance and i go see a movie at least once to twice a month now. ...and it makes our lives sooo much better.
