There have been a couple of exciting things recently which I haven't posted about.....

First one - we went out into the DESERT in Saudi Arabia to look for Desert Roses!! It was great fun - there were 3 4 x 4 cars full of people, and we took a picnic lunch - it was great! We passed loads of camels (even a few Mums with Baby Camels - too cute!!)

Here are a few pics:

Warren and I with a hole he dug looking for the roses:

Some of the roses we brought home:

We even passed a camel graveyard:

Second exciting thing.... I got a new car!! It's a Hyundai Santa Fe, and it is awesome! (I had a 2.7 Litre 2001 model, and my new one is a 2005 3.5 litre, so it's really FAST:D )

The colour is hard to see in the pics, but its a pretty dark blueish/purple mettalic:

Wow - great car!
And I would love to dig for desert roses. How do you know where to dig?

They look gorgeous.:)

It's a sort of crystal that is formed under the sand - something to do with certain minerals having a reaction the the evaporation of water. They are really hard to photograph, but in real life they are really sparkly and beautiful!!

WHERE TO DIG??? You actually need to get the GPS Co-Ordinates from someone who has already found some, then you just drive into the desert to the same spot, and start digging:D They are usually about a meter under the surface.

At one point we were up to our knees in water in the holes we had dug, and within 15 minutes the water was only ankle-deep - then we realised that it was the water table dropping as the tide went out at the coast, about 100 kms away!! It was amazing!!Here (http://crystalrivergems.com/products/minerals/roses/) is a nice pic of some on the internet!

How fun! Those desert roses are very pretty and unique. They remind me of the reaction lightning has with sand. :)

Congrats on the new car. :D

Wow! That is so cool! I didn't know what a desert rose was either. :p Was it hot in the desert? Look like you had fun. Beautiful car! I love it! Do you ever take your SUV off-road in the desert? :p

HOT??? It was the middle of winter LOL - I had a tracksuit on, but Warren was fine in a T-Shirt!

I do sometimes drive off-road - there isn't much desert in bahrain - it's SOOOO tiny!! But every excuse I get, I will drive over pavements and on dirt roads :D

A while ago I went to a HUGE sale at one of the shopping centers. There was no parking, but there was a wide pavement in the middle, so I parked up there. When I left again a poor lady in a little Toyota was trying to park in the "space" I had just vacated, and she couldn't get her little car up the HUGE sidewalk:D

All I kept thinking was, "goodness! Look at the size of that HOLE"!

I think my arms would have broken off, unless I had a baby backhoe. He he he.

RIP Mr. Camel. :(
