My two kittens are forever snatching live flies and eating them. I live in a farming area and it is impossible to keep flies from the windows and screens. It seems like such an awful diet supplement. Does anyone know if it could be harmful to the cats? Thank you. SAS

i'm not sure either. My old cat,Milo used to eat bugs. I always wondered if he should have been eating them

My cats eat crickets after playfully killing and then dismembering them! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif

Not at all harmful - as certain parties used to try to convince me - "It's just a little crunchy protein, that's all!" I, however, sstill refused to eat the bugs! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

We live in a highrise apartment building, so we rarely see bugs up here. However, over the summer a bunch of ladybugs nested in around the air condtioner, and some got into the apartment. I know that Pesto ate at LEAST one of them. If we had more bugs up here I'm sure she'd feast.

From what I read, insects make up a significant part of a wild cats diet.
Just extra (gross) protein I guess http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I don't know about cats, but my dog Daisy devours bugs. It's so gross... it's the worst in the summer. My computer is next to a window, and during the summer, the window is covered in moths attracted to the light from this room. Well pretty soon I see Daisy leaping up to the window and snapping up the poor bugs. It's awful! She also paws apart june bugs and crunches them up. I think they are the worst, because she is evil and injures them, and then lets them go so che can catch them again! Finally she steps on them and eats them. It's horrifying. But everyone tells me it's just some extra protien. Still... ack!

Zezu, has just begun to eat bugs, now that spring has arrived.

and I love Survivor. I wish they'd stop complaining about how hungry they are though. plenty of food around them. they're just stubborn.

I got home and stomped my foot in a little temper tantrum when I realized instead of taping CSI I got SURVIVOR! Blechhh! Oops, excuse the editorial! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif Okay, everyone can beat me up now for being the only person in America who has never even seen an episode. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

4 FH, I'm not going to beat you up because I agree with you. CSI is the best. And not worth mentioning that other show.

My cats love to eat bugs.

I need to get crickets for my lizards but the lizards will not eat the crickets when the crickets get too big. Therefore I give the "leftover" crickets to the cats (or my gambian pouched rat).

Both of the cats get so excited, purring and meowing happily when they see me "dishing out" crickets. It's good the cats like to eat them they've found and eaten "stray" crickets that have escaped.
