About twenty years ago my parents and I drove up to the observatory on Mount Washington in New Hampshire. It's a fascinating place to visit, with the alpine flora, the rapidly changing weather, the famous cog railroad, along with some of the old buildings that are chained to the ground so they don't get blown away. The highest wind ever recorded was 231 mph on April 12th, 1934.

One of the things we did not know about, is that cats are residents of the observatory year-round. One of the cats they had (now deceased) was Inga http://www.mountwashington.org/photos/cats/inga.classic.hi.jpg.
The photo of Inga above is very popular with visitors to the gift shop. Today, the Mount Washington Observatory has a new feline member, Nin. http://www.mountwashington.org/photos/cats/nin.rock.5-00.9.hi.jpg. Additional photos of Inga and Nin are available at the Mount Washington website http://www.mountwashington.org/photos/cats/ .

Brian,

That is SO cool! I love reading stories about famous places that have cats! When I went on a cruise a few years ago, I stopped at the Hemmingway House in Key West. I did NOT want to leave!
