Well, some of you have stuck with me through my latest attempt to adopt the Scottish Fold/ fiasco and know that we are NOT adopting the kitty we wanted and have no others we are interested in. I also posted some pictures from the catshow yesterday and maybe you remember this girl?
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid158/pdccb3fe8af211a944067f2dd8a7d9072/f512efbd.jpg
This is an American Curl and her name is Tuppence from Dream Curls Cattery. (http://geocities.com/am_curls/) She is almost five months old and is up for adoption because she is not show quality. I kept going back to visit her and talked quite a bit with her breeder. Anyway - we are going out to visit the Cattery tomorrow to see about adopting Tuppence and are also going to look at two younger kitties who are ready to leave at the end of March - also not show quality. Adopting in this way seems to be the ideal way to have a particular breed that needs a home!

I have been wanting to have one kitty that was a regular purebred that is known for being sweet natured and also distinctive looking. The American Curls and The Scottish Folds are both known for their dispositions. I cannot justify paying for a showcat or breeder cat because all I want are pets!! So...off we go tomorrow to visit the three kitties. Here is what the younger babies look like:
Six weeks

11 weeks
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/more%20kitties%202005/lindykit11wks.jpg
They are about 4 months old now.

I think bringing in a younger cat would be easier on my family kitties anyway. Tuppence, if we get her, is a month younger than Lizzie & Robbie. The breeder felt that the L&R would accept the similar age newcomer the most easily. The older ones - hopefully they will accept them as well as this breed is supposed to be very easy going, adaptable and low territorial. The descriptions I read say they usually fit into any family very easily - dogs, mutiple cats, kids, etc. I am not certain we will adopt at all but are considering it. I may report back tomorrow that I changed my mind completely. I may have Tuppence or I may be waiting until the end of March for one of the others - though it is Tuppence who caught my eye.

She is a total lovebug. She spent most of the time curled up in the breeder's lap, sleeping or playing. She likes to snuggle and be held like a baby. She is adorable and sweet and not shy at all.

So, that is what I am up to! This would mean cat #6 is coming earlier than I ever thought - in fact Dennis thought five was the end but he wants this kitty too - although I know he wants her for me since I am the one home all the time and who spends the time with them.

I will update you tomorrow!

Well you know how I feel about those gray kitties. I liked her when I saw her picture yesterday.:D

Wow, I can't believe you are going for #6 already. Not that there is anything wrong with that I'm just surprised. I know you would give any kitty a great home.

I'll be looking for your update tomorrow on how it went. Good luck and have fun with the kitties. And take your camera!:D

It is easiest to buy a breed cat direct from the breeders. Which means you get a good example of the breed however this is an expensive way to get a new cat and of course this helps the breeder shift unwanted stock rather than helping a shelter cat.

However there is another way of adopting a purebreed cat, you can go to a breed specific rescue and do both...get a papered pedigree and save a life.

If you had got the girl you have set your heart on I would not of posted but as you are still looking around and thought you might like this information.

Here is one girl near to you. She is just a 'look a like' not a papered cat but with those ears she must be a pure breed.

Debbie,that is an Excellent idea.I was talking,to a Show Judge,and that is what he does,as the difference,between a Champion Cat,and a Cat,not considered Show Material,are so slight,that the average person,coulnt,tell the difference,Or,in the case of Rocca Baton and John Hancock,who didnt,have the temperment,to show properly.We know,that you will find,your Love Cat,Tomorrow,and our paws,are crossed.

They are so cute!! Good luck with whatever you decide!!

PIF, thanks for the breed rescue lists. I am still kicking around the idea of a Rex, and reseraching whether a Devon or Cornish would fit in better. There are not many on Petfinder, so those rescues sites will be a big help.

I woke up this morning and went right to Cat General - holding my first cup of coffee...

cloverfdx: yes I DO have time for 6 kitties or more. I am home full-time and spend most of my days loving on kitties - it is just what I do. We are retired and I am largely homebound.

I do appreciate the comments - the pure breed rescue sites - I have already been to many times and will keep following:) DIL Devon had sent me the link to the one folded girl already, too. This breeder that has Tuppence is also part of the American Curl Rescue Project and even has three fosters in her home right now. (they take in Curls and domestics, too) One is a Curl, but he is a very timid boy who needs to be adopted with another boy he was surrendered with and I don't think he would be happy in my home and I really do not want two adults right now (but they are both orange!!)

So, sorry - no new Sirrahcat right now. I had a hard night sleeping and trying to decide what was bothering me and it is just that adopting Tuppence would go against my basic philosophy about kitties. She is not inexpensive - and I know she will go to a good home.

I still want her :( :(....but I am going to wait and watch for somebody who needs me more. Besides, I have two babies that need me alot and I am working hard to make them as loving as possible.

I wish it would have worked out with Marty girl - but it didn't. That experience with her breeder was horrible - I still want to cry - finally just deleted all of her e-mails to me - some that I shared with you guys...I really do not think she looks as kitties as anything more than breeder stock and $$$.....but on the positive side, Tuppence's breeder (http://www.geocities.com/am_curls/) was wonderful! I believe she is an animal lover before she is a breeder. She has good ole moggies running around with her show kittens. When I called to tell her we would not be coming this afternoon, she was more than understanding and will keep a watch for me - for the next kitty:D It will likely be either a Fold or a Curl so I have my one real purebred cat I have wanted - whenever.

Debbie, I think that giving Lizzie some more time will pay off. I'm just concerned that adding another baby right now, might push her further away. I think your decision now is the right one.

Hugs,
Kim

Deb:

Sounds like you're really being smart about this . . . It's so easy to get attached . . . in just a matter of minutes, they have you completely wrapped around their little paws.

You'll know when it's right . . .

My mom always said, if it's meant to be, it will come easy! And my mom is always right! :)

I know how bad you want this . . . and you have such a wonderful home to welcome more! I've still got awhile before I'm retired . . . but I can't think of a better way to spend retirement! (besides being with your grandbabies)

Hang in there sweetie! :D

I agree, maybe it just wasn't meant to be, yet. ;)

You'll know when will be the right time, as with the right cat.

Hugs....

Or even, a professional judge! I have a friend in Seattle who bought two "pet quality" Devon Rex kittens from a breeder, then entered them in a show just for fun. They both won ribbons! :D

Debbie, I think you've made a good decision. Give R&L more time as your new babies. As for Lizzie, she may become more "personable" with time. You just wouldn't believe the changes in Scout. It took her almost a year to be somewhat of a lap kitty but there must be a blanket involved. Just recently she began sitting in my lap without the blanket. That took about 18 months. This from the cat that slashed the end of my nose open for bending down too close to pet her.

You all have no idea how much I appreciate what you have to say. I know I have been rather schizophrenic about adopting a new kitty the past couple weeks but that Marty/breeder experience was rather bizzarre:rolleyes: It really bothered me very much :(

I feel so much better now - making the right decision. I have been loving like crazy on my five!! Lizzie is NOT an ice princess - she is melting;) Robbie is turning into mama's boy day by day! I am very blessed to have these five kitties who all get along and everyone seems to love everyone!! There is *always* snuggling happening somewhere:D

Thank you again everyone!! Whew! What a couple weeks!! I guess I am a http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v170/sirrahbed/certified.gif

Laura - you are so sweet!! That curlie boy is one of the rescues living with the breeder that has Tuppence!! I talked with her at length about Red Cloud - but we both are quite sure he would not be happy at my house. He really needs to be adopted with Baron, who is his buddy. I cannot handle two adults right now. These boys were surrendered by a family whose wife had a stroke. Sad :( How neat that you located a boy I already knew about!:D

Sorry for the late post on this Debbie. I have read through all the posts and I agree that you have made the right decision. Please put that woman and what she had to say to you, right out of your mind. Don't be upset about it one second more. She is not worth it.

I'm glad that you are feeling better and especially happy to hear that precious Lizzie is no longer an Ice Princess.

I agree with Lori in regards to giving R & L more time as your new babies.:)
