Hi Everyone!
I'm involved with a WONDERFUL, NO-KILL Shelter in my area that is up against a whole lot of political red-tape. "ALL CREATURES, GREAT & SMALL", Hendrsonville, NC truly, TRULY are struggling with very little funds and HARD-WORKING dedicated, compassionate volunteers. All these precious animals are OBVIOUSLY treated quite well, they're healthy, friendly and gentle. (That speaks volumes for how their people are treating them.) Anyways, they are at extreme risk of losing their license and have 30 days to get more done than humanly possible without funds or they'll be shut down. The city will remove all the animals (about 15 of them) and farm them out to the "other" shelter in the area...they will be put down within one week in those facilities. I am looking for some idea's or leads that may be able to help ALL CREATURES GREAT & SMALL. They don't yet have a WEBSITE (altho working on one) but you could check out TIMES-NEWS, Hendersonville, NC to read about whats going on or contact me with your ideas. My heart so aches for these folks who are trying so hard. Please let me know. Thank You for your compassion and concern. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif

Thanks for posting about this shelter in need.

I found the following story dated September 25, 2000 on the Times-News website:

Thanks Pet of The Day for moving "No-Kill Shelter in Trouble" to the PET RESCUE catagory. I noted typo error, I typed 15 pets were at risk...it's 150 animals at risk.(Don't know how to correct that goof.) I can't indicate strongly enough, the ENORMOUS AMOUNT OF WORK THAT LIES AHEAD FOR ALL CREATURES. Their building was a diaster from the get-go, but at least it's big enough for their needs. It can get all done with more funds and some professional contracted work. The Volunteers in ALL CREATURES are soooooooo WONDERFUL, but Lord, it's a BIG LOAD. Please if anyone out there has any ideas...please let me know. (ALL CREATURES IS WORKING ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE.)
THANK YOU AGAIN PETOFTHEDAY! You are GREAT!
Blessings of Love and Respect,
Joyce :)
Got a "Smilie" for "LOVE"?

Well, there's always community donations - a little food here and a little money there can make all the difference. "One rain drop raises the sea". So, give us the snail mail address, and mabye some of us can donate money or food?
Otherwise, I don't know - a fundraiser would be the ultimate money raiser (for lack of more/better words!) I don't know how you'd go about it though.........

Thank you Kat, for the suggestion. You're right, donations can be a real help. I've also found an agency, MADDIES FOUNDATION founded by a lovely couple in memory of their beloved
late dog, MADDIE. I think right now, ALL CREATURE VOLUNTEERS are elbow deep in the physical aspects of CARING for the animals and the upgrading of the building. I wish I could help within the parameters of the physical, but I'm physically challenged. At best, I can try to do some head-work etc., Yesterday I found an Award-Winning WEBSITE designer and she agreed to donate and design a WEBSITE for ALL CREATURES. Anyway, hope they can get it started. In the mean time, here's the address and phone number:
ALL CREATURES GREAT & SMALL (828)697-8398
Rt 3 Box 184, Hendersonville, NC 28739. Please pass the word and maybe with all intentions in-sync we can save the animals through the compassionate work of ALL CREATURES GREAT & SMALL. Blessings & Love,
Joyce http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

You may want to contact Best friends animal sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. They do what they can to help no kill shelters. As a volunteer, I notice that they do what they can and get info to people on what else they can do. They have a website at www.bestfriends.org (http://www.bestfriends.org) Good luck! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I put together a website and although it's not 100% finished, I've had it active for about a week now. It's purpose is to help animal welfare groups make some extra money just by using the internet.

Let the people at All Creatures Great and Small know about this site. I'd be happy to bring them onboard.

Hi Animal Matters!
THANK YOU soooooooo much for the site. ALL CREATURES is trying to develop a website of their own too. Unfortunately, the State came in AGAIN...and faulted them with 1) Brand new lineolum in the catroom, which supposedly would harbor germs and 2)the broken air conditioner in the catroom, which a new one has been purchased but not installed yet. I wish I had the physical abilities to do some hand-on-stuff (along with the animals care) but my body doesn't allow me much physical activity. ALL CREATURES are simply up to their elbow in alligators and I suspect pretty overwhelmed with all the legal gooblegook...so they're lagging in other areas. Saddest of all, ALL THE ANIMALS in their care are happy, healthy creatures. You can check out the TIMES-NEWS Newspaper and check out the multitude of stuff being written about ALL CREATURES GREAT & SMALL at www.hendersonvillenews.com (http://www.hendersonvillenews.com)
Anyways...many thanks for your interest and help. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif
Blessings of ALL Good,
Joyce

Hi, I don't know if this will work where you are located, but I recently adopted and wonderful cat from a no-kill shelter called The Shamrock Society. They foster out the animals up for adoption. You might try contacting them to find out how they work, that way at least you might be able to find temporary homes for your animals until you can get financially in the green, and I don't think the local agencies can take the animals away and "redistribute" them. I wish you the best of luck, as I have adopted all my wonderful pets from the local animal shelters, you and your co-workers are providing a wonderful service to the community, even if the local government doesn't realize it...

ps the Shamrock society has locations in Louisville Kentucky and New Orleans Louisiana, as well as other cities

Ditto what Boxerluvr suggested: www.bestfriends.org (http://www.bestfriends.org) They have helped others in similar plight and have a lot of great advice and links. Hope you try them. Good luck and prayers for the helpless little creatures. Their suffering should end, not be compounded by bueracracy.
