If you think you have found an abandoned nest of baby rabbits while mowing your yard, think again. Mother rabbits only feed their young once or twice a day and then leave the nest to prevent predators from finding her babies.
Do NOT touch the babies. One way to see if mom is feeding her young is to lightly place a couple of pieces of string across the nest and then leave the area for 24 hours. Chances
are very good that when you return the string will have moved indicating mom returned in the meantime. If you find a dead adult nearby or the string has not been disturbed, a skilled wildlife rehabilitator is the babies best chance for survival. nest and check back in 24 hours. If the string has bee disturbed, mom has been back. If not, an orphaned rabbit's best chance is with a skilled wildlife rehabilitator. To locate a group near you go to http://www.tc.umn.edu/~devo0028/rehabsit.htm
