My new boss is a HUGE Nascar fan...he gives me the daily count down to Daytona, and today called me in his office to see a picture of him with Richard Petty! I'm working on MIS tickets from him, but we'll see!!!

And for the fans who missed it...here (http://petoftheday.com/talk/showthread.php?threadid=70492) are my pics of Tony Stewart from this past weekend!

I am excited about the NASCAR season this year. I'm hoping for a safe season with no serious injuries. I will also be cheering for Mark Martin and keeping my fingers crossed that he will win the championship!!! I HOPE, I HOPE!!! I would also really love to see Kyle Petty win a race this year! :p

Good luck to all the drivers this year, well, except for Spencer...can't stand that one! :p

This year I have extra reason to be excited. Anna, Mark, Alden and I are going to the Bristol night race! :D I can't wait!!! Woo Hoo!!

I'm not really a race fan...Mark's the fan in this house. But I am really excited to go. I recently got a chance to go to the Lowe's Motorspeedway when they were doing some practicing. Unfortunately Mark wasn't with me, but I did get to call him and say "Honey, guess where I am?!" He was so jealous! But I did get alot of good pictures for him:p
There was usually only 4 cars on the track at a time and it was soooo loud! I can't imagine what 43 on a small track is going to sound like:eek:

You guys are so lucky to be going to the Bristol Night Race!:D
I think Bristol and Daytona would be the most fun tracks to go see a race at.
I have gone to see races at the New Hampshire International Speedway and it was a lot of fun.
You will need ear protection and you probably won't be able to hear each other talk unless it is during a caution lap.;)
Have a great time and take lots of photos for us, there should be a lot of bumping and banging at Bristol.:)

I noticed something about the race on Saturday Night.

When your favorite driver is in the middle of the pack and things start to get squirrely do you take a deep breath, go "WHOA", and
start to breath about 5 seconds later????

And what is so special about sliding the back end at 150??   ;)..

Cincy'sMom
02-14-2005, 08:09 PM
I was sorta ho-hum baout the 2nd half of the race Saturday, as Tony wasn't doing too well...and then he came from where? What a finish!!

And since this is a Pet site...Thursday night 8pm, Animal PLanet, meet the pets of the NASCAR drivers!!

Wow! That was great!

Congrat to Jeff Gordon. That was some great racing.

Can't believe Johnson and Stewart hung on. Man I thought they were going to crash for sure.

Not a bad finish for Martin either. Sure would have liked to have seen him win though.

NASCAR ROCKS!!!

Yes, we watched the race here too!! Hubby is a BIG Dale Jr. fan ( hence our Swissie's name ;))...we were suppose to go watch it at a friends house, but Christian was sick...so we stayed here...poor hubby :( :) I am turing into a fan, since Rob and my brother are HUGE fans. They work for MBNA, and were able to work at the Dover race last year...carting around people ( in golf carts), in the center of the track. They also both got on TV, when Mark Martin won the trophy...all the MBNA employees were in the background in winners circle...( since MBNA sponsers that race)...

Bobby Labonte, Tony Stewart, Joe Gibbs and their crew come to MBNA once a year, and all the employees and their friends get to meet them...we ended up going to a bar after the autograph signing, and Bobby Labonte was at the same place...and so my husband and my brother ( huge Labonte fan), just had to go use the bathroom with him...LOL!!! :)

I just picked up on this "great offer" for a two night stay at a TimeShare Resort offer in the Pocanos. I went for it.. two nights for my son Kenneth & wife Jenny and me for $99. Well, I just happened to pick the weekend of The Pocono NASCAR race which is only a few miles away. Bought them tickets for the race online (great seats) and we are THERE! June 12-13. They have horseback riding that I will do while they are at the race and the only "hitch" is we have to sit through a 60 minute "Dog and Pony Show" to try to sell us the time share crap. Whatever. It's a cheap weekend and they get to see NASCAR at the Pocono's! WOO HOO! He is a Jeff Gordon fan by the way. Sorry RICHARD.

Just one word for Robby Gordon.....

STUPID!

I have seen Gordon race almost everything......

And he finally came in first place by racing his mouth.

-------------------------------------------

I'm not a fan of Danica Patrick. I do want to see her win, but I after seeing her do a 'bikini spread' in some mag I thought that she was pulling a PR stunt.

You'd think that she'd let her skill do the talking....

Lady's Human

Robby's complaint is legitimate. Most other racing series weigh the car with the driver. In the case of Danica, she's easily bought 50-75 pounds that no other team can get. When all else if fairly equal, that weight can be the advantage. that weight can equal a roughly 10 HP gain in engine power, in a series where the engines are all fairly even.n (sorry, no calc handy , o nthe wrong computer)

Danica is pretty, but after hearing her mouth in an interview she's about 34th on my list of favorite racers in the 500.

Now on to the important race of the day,..........

GO MARK!

Lady's Human
05-29-2005, 11:32 AM
assuming Danica Patrick is 100 lbs ,her car falls exactly at the IRL 1525lb ( which most do)minimum and the engine is putting out about 750 HP ........

Danica's engine/ car combination with her in the seat is using 1 HP to move 2.17 lbs

assuming Robby's weight is 200 lbs and again, his car is at the IRL minimum and 750 HP..........

Robby's car is using 1 HP to move 2.3 lbs, which gives Danica almost a 6% advantage in HP to weight. IRL rules are set up to try and avoid this situation, obviously they need a little work. In NASCAR and F-1 the driver's weight is taken into consideration when weighing the car.

momoffuzzyfaces
05-29-2005, 12:03 PM
I wonder why, at Indy, they don't change the command to start engines to "Racers! Start your engines"? They've had other female racers before. That would cover anyone who was racing. Just my opinion.:)

RICHARD

LH,

Her body weight is offset by the weight of her purse, all the stuff she packed for a 500 mile trip and cosmetics - in case she won.

As it is, she was passed because she was checking her make up in the rear view mirror....In case she won....

If Sarah Fisher had the same level of equipment and sponsorship Danica has she'd be just as fast. Sarah is just as photogenic, but doesn't have Danica's attitude problem. (Again, after hearing Danica's interview on Fox Sports it completely turned me off. No respect whatsoever.) I got the impression from the interview that Danica think sthat the IRL exists for her benefit alone.

One difference between Danica and Dale Sr. .....

Dale never showed the utter lack of respect for his fellow competitors that Ms Pastrick showed. (This was a radio interview on Fox Sports radio, not the TV interviews she did post race)

When he first started racing, he would deliberately bump them off the track and cause wrecks. I was always afraid he would kill someone and didn't like him for years because of that. Luckily, he matured as he grew older. I did grow to like him when he stopped doing that.

Racing is just too dangerous to deliberately knock someone out of your way.

I noticed that Patrick never acknowledged Janet Guthrie or Sarah Fisher........I don't remember the third gal's name.....They were the spear carriers who "paved the way" for Patrick's ability to lead 17 laps of the "world's greatest race".

Open wheel racing cannot be compared to stock car racing-
By the time you 'trade paint' you are into the wall or wadded up you car with someone else.

All things aside. there is a troubling trend among young athletes
in the last few years.

It is the lack of respect to the history, the 'old guard' and the media that cover their jobs.

During an ABC interview, Patrick made a statement about being a 'sex symbol'.

If she had waited until after the race I would not have bothered to be bothered.

http://www.indymotorspeedway.com/danica.htm

She did do well in the race, congrats to her, her attittude probably did get her to where she made it on Sunday....

----------------------------------

Two things...

The announcers on the "Danica Patrick Show" -Not to be confused with ESPN sportscaster Dan Patrick, were shrill and obnoxious-Where is JACKIE STEWART AND CHRIS ECONOMAKI
when you need them??

And when do we see the DP shampoo, underarm shaver and eye liner commercials?

The lack of respect I was referring to with Ms Patrick was that in her interview she acknowledge Lyn St James as a role model, ignored Janet Guthrie completely, and completely TRASHED Sarah fisher. Chickie babe, if they hadn't done it, we wouldn't even be talking about you.

When Ironhead came up, yes, he wrecked on the track, but in the late '70s in NASCAR that was the rules of the game. NASCAR achived national prominence when a blizzard on the east coast pretty much forced everyone to watch Cale Yarborough go to blows with Bobby Allison because of a wreck in the race.

In open wheel racing, if the cars touch SLIGHTLY, both cars are probably piles of carbon fiber. I notice everyone in the media is talking about Ms Patrick finishing fourth and leading, ignoring the 5 car wreck she cause, and completely ignoring the person wh oshould be in the spotlight, Dan Wheldon, who has not only won the Indy 500, it was his third victory in a row.

Ah the good old days!!!

When men were men, and they kicked each other's arse for wrecking.

One thing about Ironhead.

As with all sports figures, I couldn't stand DE...just because he always won....

But everyone knew that when the last 15 laps were being run and number 3 was anywhere close to the leader....you were in for a race.

Danica wasn't "comfortable" running in side by side groups, so she fell back early and never got into the race.

Can you say Danica Kournikova?

GO MARK, nice top 5!!!!!

what a last lap....

Mark loses a tire going into one, Schrader wrecks in one, Labonte wrecks in two, and NASCAR takes 5 minutes trying to figure out who finished where....LOL

after Bernie Ecclestone's comment on Danica, "You know I've got one of those wonderful ideas ... women should be dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances." I don't think you'll see Danica in F1 anytime soon.

I know I've been hard on Ms Patrick, and I know the media coverage isn't her fault. It just infuriates me when the lead story in the paper the day after the race in texas wasn't Tomas Scheckter winning, it was "Danica dissappointed after 13th place finish". I hope she lives up to the promise, but I have nagging doubts.

For all you Ryan Newman fans out there in PT land, he's been dubbed the "serial pole winner" by ESPN. I thought Batman was the race sponsor, not Kellogs.

Good luck Mark, and god go with the F1 drivers who have to try to race Indy with a tire that has been proven unsafe.

This is a partial quote from an article about today's race;

"The FIA, the series governing body, refused a request to allow the teams using Michelins to change to a fresh set of tires, and wouldn't even consider placing a chicane in the final turn to slow the speeds.

After a lengthy morning meeting, nine of the 10 teams said they would only compete if the chicane was put in place. Ferrari, which fields cars for Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello, was the only team to refuse the chicane.

All 20 cars lined up on the starting grid even without the chicane in place. But, after the warmup lap, the 14 cars on Michelin tires all pulled into the garage and parked in protest.

"It was very clear that we were unsafe today and we couldn't race," pole sitter Jarno Trulli said. "I'm really sorry for the USA fans."

I understand what the problem was , but what is a "chicane" ?

Lady's Human
06-19-2005, 07:36 PM
A chicane is a tight corner inserted into a straight on a racetrack to slow the speeds on the straight. It's normally put in just before a corner at the end of a straight. If you look at the track map for watkins glen (http://www.theglen.com/seating/index.jsp) and look at the track section labeled the inner loop you will see a chicane. before the inner loop was put in they had a problem with racecars flying (literally) off the track at the end of the straight.

ESPN.com news services

Bernie Ecclestone might want to work on his apologies.

It seemed the Formula One president and CEO had seen the error of his words about women racing with men when he called Danica Patrick over the weekend, presumably to apologize.

But then he repeated his comments.

Ecclestone made news last week with his comments made in response to Patrick's fourth-place finish at the Indianpolis 500.

Asked about Patrick's success, Ecclestone acknowledged her strong finish, but then made an assessment about women racing with men that caused a stir, saying, "You know I've got one of those wonderful ideas ... women should be dressed in white like all the other domestic appliances."

On Saturday, Patrick received a phone call from Ecclestone, in which he complimented her on her performance at the Indy 500.

But Ecclestone caught Patrick off guard when he repeated to her his statement about women and "domestic appliances."

"I just didn't make sense of it," Patrick said during an IRL teleconference this week. "I was surprised, I guess, somebody would say that to me. And the days after, when it actually came out in the press, people were asking me 'What do you think of that?'

"I was like, 'You know what he told me? He said that on the phone.'"

Patrick said some of Ecclestone's comments were positive and complimentary, which made the exchange more perplexing.

"I can't believe that he would say it to me over the phone, not to my face, but directly to me," she said. "I was a bit confused. ... So I don't really know what to think about it.

"I don't know if he was talking about someone else or the majority or what, I'm not really sure. Or, maybe that's his real feeling.

"If that's the case, then you know, [it] doesn't really matter because I'm racing in the Indy Racing League."

Last month, Patrick became the first woman to lead a lap at the Indianapolis 500. She finished fourth, the best finish by a female in the 89-year history of the race.

Ecclestone has garnered attention before for comments on women in racing.

The 74-year-old told Autosport racing magazine in Feb. 2000 that women would never excel in Forumla One. He added that if a woman did make it, "she would have to be a woman who was blowing away the boys. ... What I would really like to see happen is to find the right girl, perhaps a black girl with super looks, preferably Jewish or Muslim, who speaks Spanish."

Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

Why does this not surprise me? Bernie, time to sell Formula one before you destroy it completely.

The teams that raced didn't deserve what they got. FIA and F1, however deserve everything that's coming to them. It's a little assinine to try to control costs by limiting teams to 1 set of tires per race weekend when the team budgets run upward of $300 million US. (No one will say just what the team budgets are, however when the Ford/Jaguar team (now red bull) needed a wind tunnel they built one for $125 Million US without even batting en eye)

The One tire rule is in itself an accident waiting to happen, just look at what happenned to Kimi Rainkkonen in Canada. He flat spotted a tire, and kept going because it didn't fall within FIA's guidance on when it was okay to change tires. The vibration from the flat spot eventually destroyed his suspension at speed, and sent him off the track at 150+ MPH, yet that isn't a reason to change a tire.

Last Sunday night I was awakened by the idle of a big engine on the street in front of my house.

After about 15 minutes I went outside to see what or who was parked out on the street...The low pulse of the engine was driving me crazy.

It was the neighbors , who had come home from the CA speedway after the race.

They were so DRUNK it took them another 45 minutes to back the motor home into the garage....They would have made it in sooner but the had to stop to check the rig for damage after hitting the garage.

They left the motor running for the whole hour that they were out there and were laughing and yelling at each other. Funny how "Your car sucks" and "Number ## Rules...."
can make you lose sleep.....
.

The noise wasn't terribly bothersome..It was the fact that no one in the motor home was sober enough to back it in.....

It was knoiwing that they drove the 45 miles home in that condition....

HE WON, HE WON!! MARTIN WON!!

It was so wonderful to see Mark Martin win. My house was so quiet the whole time. I sat so still and didn't even want to breathe for fear something might happen...lol. What a relief when he actually crossed the finish line and won the race. I'm a happy girl! :D

That was the sorriest excuse I've seen for a race in ages. NASCAR, Goodyear, and LMS should refund everyone's money.

A crappy night for Tony, and yet he is still tied for first. Hopefully that was his one bad night and on the championship from here!

That was a pretty crappy race! Nothing but blown tires and cautions. Boring! I felt sorry for all the drivers. That must have been so frustrating.

RICHARD
10-17-2005, 05:58 PM
I have to disagree with some of you.

It was a great race.

The tire problems made it a crap shoot. You had to pray a little bit harder for your driver.

The yellows did make it tedious but what about the sparks and smoke on those last few laps??
That made for an interesting finish!! :D

10-31-2005, 10:25 AM
Ohhhh, Mark! What was that you were saying about fumes?! :p Keep up with the trash talk, buddy, it seems to help out my drivers;). Serves you right for being such a mean and vindictive person :p ;) . I just love Carl Edwards! Didn't you enjoy that back flip?!...Hehehehe :D :p ;)

Has anyone seen The Roush/Driver X program?

I understand that it's a reality program.....but why did they have to pick guys that were racing already???

It is an investment by Roush-but I was hoping for something a little more 'real'....

"Please keep your hands on the steering wheel....."

I have to tell the truth....

I tune in for Wally's World, the opening ceremonies....I CANNOT GET ENOUGH OF THE PLANES FLYING OVER and the first ten laps or so....I go and do what I need to do and come back in for the last 50 or so laps...

I wish I could watch the race from start to finish, but there is too much to do until the weather gets bad...

Yesterday it all backfired...

As Carl Edwards was pulling up to do the back flip I got a call......

How do you hang up and not hurt anyone's feelings??

"Can I call you back......I have to see the backflip....."  :p  ;)

Hehehe...I use to be like that Richard. I love the start of the race and the end of the race...lol...I usually nap or find something else to do in between time.

NOW...I find myself watching the entire race . I have become hooked! I don't know what happened to me

When Martin stayed out instead of pitting I found myself on my feet after that...lol. I couldn't sit down...lol. So much fun watching my favorite drivers come in 1, 2, and 3! I would have been even more happier if Martin had won but if it wasn't him I was glad it was Carl Edwards. I was clapping at the end of the race and thrilled to get to see that back flip one more time! No way would I have answered the phone until after the back flip;).

What a great race it was today!!! We were right onthe start finsh line, 9 rows up! Got to see the flip up close and personal! I tried to take a video of it, but I'm not sure if I got him or not...and I didn't bring the software to load my pictures from here, so I can't check til I get back to Ohio (the screen on the camera makes movies too small to get good detail!)

Don't know if word is out too much, but it was onthe news here...Kurt Busch got picked up for a DUI last night out by the track! Same guy who does Drink Responsible commericals for Crown Royal!! Go figure!!

Got too much sun today, but had a blast! Can't wait til tomorrow!

OMG..Amy, I'm so jealous that you got to see Carl do his back flip!!! I thought of you when it was gonig on because I knew you said you were sitting at the start/finish line. Looks like you got to see a good Busch race!

Didn't hear that news about Kurt Busch yet. Shame on him!! I hate drinking and driving!

Lady's Human
11-12-2005, 11:08 PM
Mr Busch has been charged with reckless driving (running a stop sign, doing 60 in a 45) and was not charged with DUI, but the officer smelled alcohol on his breath. Looks like he's a good fit for the #2. (My favorite Rusty Wallace sign I've ever seen was "My drinking team has a racing problem")

Cincy'sMom

I'm sorry I didn't get the story quite right. What I heard was that they pulled him over, and he was beligerent with the cops so they took him in for a breathalizer. The person relaying the story must have made the assumption that he was charged with DUI.

Amy, Mark told me last night that what he read is that they couldn't find a "working" breathalyzer (hmmm, confidence?) so he was only charged with reckless driving.
I never got to see the race (I was working:p) but it sounds like you had a fantastic time!
I'm sure you'll have even more fun today...looking forward to the videos and pictures when you come back!!!!!

Too bad for KB.....

I immensely dislike the "Sheriff". He's a pompus arse, he's the one that keeps prisoners in tents, makes them wear pink underwear and prison wear and feeds them PB and Js... Jail shouldn't be a picnic, but it's just his "TV" face and his media 'presence' that bugs me....

If you noticed the statement he made on the prerace show-He said something like "No one comes into my town...."

Your town????
=======================

"Sheriff!!! This Kurt Busch called us wimps!!!"

"Settle down Barney.....We'll send him over to Mount Pilot where they do have a working breathalyzer!!!"

They couldn't nail him for DUI so they blamed him for RD....you also have a blood test or a urine test to fall back on..KB had his choice-he chose correctly... :p

Lady's Human
11-13-2005, 11:06 PM
Disregarding the sheriff's media circus, KB's actions were the last straw. He has been a personality headache for roush the last 2 years, and I'm actually surprised the roush kept him on this long after negotiating with another team while still under contract with roush. He's a good driver, but he's in the same situation Tony Stewart was prior to Tony getting his temper in check.

Whether he was driving under the influence or not, if he had enough alcohol in his system for the deputy to notice it, he was wrong. I'm sure he can afford to have someone drive him if he's had a couple. For that matter, what in hell was he doing drinking DURING a race weekend?
