I am helping someone design a website. They so desperately want to tie me to their site (I know she wants to do it so she won't have to pay me for design time and she's hoping I will end up paying half the monthly fee  ) Anyway, she loves cats like I do, so she wants to have her cat and mine as tour-guides (or something along that line) for the site.

As much as I love cats, I think it sounds tacky. She sells office furniture. She'd like to get big companies, and she is actually working with a few big companies already. Is it professional to have a cat on the homepage direct you through the site? She thinks typical office furniture sites are boring (she has a point there) and wants to stand out (with cats she will!) But I think she's going about it the wrong way... if she sold to home offices, thats one thing. To be targeting big companies is another.

And then back to me. She wants her site to talk about her furniture lines, the services she provides (me being her desinger) and then link ME to her website. But not me as a designer, but me as an artist. Now, excuse me if I'm wrong here, but what does pencil portraits have to do with an office cubical? The website I have now is free and doing me just fine. Why should I pay for one right now? I can't see how splitting the cost with her will increase my business... ESPCIALLY if the website address would be under her company's name with a page or two dedicated to me. It seems wrong to me.

Anyone else have a different take on the situation? Does the cat theme sound cute and wold you like it if you were a CEO of a big company?

It sounds like maybe she does just want half the money from you. Will you get a profit from what she sells? If no I'd say no. :)

As much as I like cats, I agree with you on both counts. *sigh*
