View Full Version : Cracker Jack settles in

Tubby & Peanut's Mom

Cracker Jack is starting to make himself right at home...as much as Peanut is allowing that is. He is such a gentleman, and has figured out that she doesn't like him, so he gives her lots of space. He has already figured out that he has to giver her a wide berth when he wants to walk by. He walks as wide as he can, she hisses and he just keeps walking. When he's sufficiently far away, Peanut stops hissing and again, he just continues on.

It's kind of sad though, because he looks at her with interest, like he wants to make friends, but she just hisses. She has settled down a bit, and doesn't hiss quite so often, depends on what mood she's in - typical female.

So anyway, on with the pictures (I know that's what you've been waiting for).

In the middle of playing with the ball, he decides it's time to let it all hang out.

We were watching a movie last night and CJ climbed up for a snuggle.

And here's a video of him begging. Be sure and check your volume! I always thought Tubby came through loud and clear, but CJ's lungs blow Tubby's away!

What a cutie.

In one of Tubby's favorite places. If you look in the background, you can see Tubby looking on and approving.

He is certainly not shy in his begging (as you saw in the video). The only thing is, everything I give him when he begs, he doesn't want!

But she calmed down enough to at least tolerate him in her site....sometimes.

On top of the couch during the movie. We purposely kept the "heat lamp" on so she would stay there as long as he did.

And here they are on the floor. All he wants to do is be friends...

OMG... thats just too cute! What a meow he has! How could anyone resist giving him whaever he wants? I wonder what is is that he wants??? What treats have you tried... maybe we can start a PT treat chain. Every PTer can send a different type of treat to him, and eventually we'll hit upon his special treat! :D

When you go back to work tomorrow, will you be leaving them out together? Wouldn't you love to be a fly on the wall to see what happens when you're not at home?

Oh Debbie, I think things are going very well actually, given the circumstances and time frame. I am sure that Miss Peanut will soon realize that Cracker Jack will make great company for her!

Great pics!:)

He's quite the talker and knows how to give orders:D Exactly like our Tigris- who is also not very precise with his orders. Sometimes he wants food, sometimes playing, sometimes he informs me the litterbox isn't clean:D

He looks too cute snuggling with you:)

And Peanut will need more tome- much more time:rolleyes:

He's so cute. Debbie, what do you do to this catboys that they show you the tummy right away ;) I mean, these pictures of CJ remind me of the first pictures of Eddie you took :D

I LOVE CJ's tail.

AWWWWW

CJ looks just so comfy.. he is settling in so perfect. Peanut is adjusting quite well too.. well compared to my experiences with Queen Tinky.

I can't wait to get home and hear the video of him meowing... i'm curious if he meows anything like Jupiter....:)

He is just darling, Debbie. :)

I have to tell you that watching Peanut, watch him, is so much like what Mimi did (and still does) with Butter. She simply doesn't want to be bothered with him, but at the same time, she does watch him like a hawk!!! :) Those old ladies are too funny!!!! :D

His meow is just adorable. Is that Peanut growling in the background or am I hearing things? He stares and then keeps meowing...ahhh. What a good boy!

Awww what a darling.

Dear Peanut,

Give Mr. CJ a chance. He looks like fun. I have been begging Meowmie for a sibling so I can have someone to play with while her and Daddy are at work. It is no fun being an only kitty.

Debbie, I've just now had a chance to view that video...my home computer is so slow. What a talkative little guy he is. He's just saying HI to all the Pet Talkers out there.

Did I mention yet how cute his tail is?? I just love that little curly-cue at the end. :) :)

I do too, and he's always flipping that tip. Not the whole tail, just the tip. :D

Thanks everybody. Things are going as smooth as can be expected this morning. I almost let them both roam freely last night while we slept.....until I found CJ awake and alert at peering out the back window, and Peanut sitting at the edge of the kitchen peering in at him....and hissing! There were two bunnies at the bird feeder which he was watching intently. The whole scenerio reminded me too much of a few years back when we had a stray cat coming around and terrorizing T & P to the point where they attacked each other - in the middle of the night! I wanted nothing to do with that scenerio again, so I brought Jack in the bedroom with me and closed the door again. :(

This morning Terry and I discussed things and we decided we were doing things all wrong. Whenever Peanut would hiss at CJ, we'd start petting her and cooing to her, trying to calm her down - we were rewarding her bad behavior! So this morning he was handing out treats. Peanut started hissing so CJ got a treat and Peanut didn't. Terry started ignoring her and was talking to CJ and petting him and paying attention to him. Next thing you know, Peanut is in her little bed Cracker Jack walks by and by golly, no hissing! So maybe things will be all worked out by the time I get home tonight!

Oh, and as for the stand off in the doorway in the kitchen, Crackers usually doesn't even know Peanut is there until she hisses (she's quite sneaky), so she was hissing at him (yes, that's her in the background) and he just wanted to go up to her and make friends, but the hissing kept him at bay. I thought it was hilarious though that he rubbed the cabinet a few times, then said the heck with this, I'm going back to begging! He has even started turning his back on her when she hisses at him - how insulting! ;) :D But I think it sends the right signal. I want nothing to do with your hissy fits so just get over it already! :D

Now I've got other problems though.....but will start a new thread on that.

CJ has really made himself at home. I'm so glad he's so relaxed. Now to just get Miss Peanut to relax a little. Glad to hear your new way of petting him and ignoring her when she hisses works. I've been trying that for months and months with Scout and Ripley but it doesn't work.

Scout just absolutely hates Ripley. I thought for the longest that maybe she just hates males and I was very worried about bringing Rocky in with her but she tolerates Rocky fairly well (as much as she tolerates any female cat - which isn't the greatest, but...) She just torment Ripley, bosses him around smacks at him constantly. She can be asleep in a chair and will hear or smell him walk by and gets up just to swat at him below. Everytime he goes to hop up in the window where the food is she will run over to smack his rear as he jumps. She even dictates when he can eat and drink sometimes. It's so frustrating and probably why he sprays sometimes. Poor fellow.

I just love stories like this! :D **hugs** Cracker Jack certainly looks like he has made himself at home and very comfortable! I just love his meow! So sweet! Even thought Peanut is still a little wary of him, things still seem to be moving along well. I'm sure in no time at all they will be co-habitating just fine! :D
Much love,
Karen
