Do any of you know whether an American size 8 1/2 is equivalent to an English size 6? I know some brands are smaller than others, but ..... ???

I'm thinking of ordering a pair of slippers from http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/1564078/c/396.html

... since John is already ordering some other things and we can have it shipped in one go. :)

I would think twice about that ordering. Usually sport shoes like running etc. have different sizes written in German (which is the same as Italian), UK and US. I usually have 39, if the shoes are very pointed 39,5. In some of my sport shoes I need to go till 41,5!!!!!! which is due to the fact that Nike converts differently from adidas etc.

Thank you, Aly - now I'm even more confused about what size to order. ;) :D

On one of them, it says that an English size 6 is an American size 8 1/2, and the other one says an english size 6 is an American size 7! What to believe.

Barbara, I'm a 39 too and it's very seldum that I've had to buy 1/2 size larger or smaller, but I know that certain manufactorers use different meassures, isn't it frustrating! If only the whole world used the same!!

Maybe get a size 8? That is a pretty average American woman's size. If they are slightly too big, then that is okay because they are slippers, right? I don't think they would be so big that your feet would slide around in them. I wear size 7 and a half or 8 usually .. hold your foot up to the monitor and see if it is the same size as mine! :D

Did you know your foot is the same length as the distance from your elbow to your wrist bone? Try it!

And you're probably sitting there picturing every one of us measuring his/her arm bone with the foot, laughing your head off, huh? :p

Not for either Paul or myself!

My foot is 9 inches long, my elbow-to-writbone is 10 1/2 inches long.

I would wear a size 8 1/2, except for the fact that my feet are, well, more duck-shaped than people-foot shaped, and I wear orthotics so it doesn't hurt to walk. So to fit the orthotics AND my foot in a shoe, I usually need a 9 or 9 1/2, depending on the style.
