Until recently I'd always been a one pet person. I had a beautiful cat named Mike until he passed away in '98, In Sep I brought Jeffrey into our household. A few weeks ago a I received Bandit. Although they get along well, when it comes to affections Jeffrey seems to be jealous. Tonight, Jeffrey was asleep on the sofa and Bandit was asleep under my desk. Bandit woke up and I picked him up to cuddle. Jeffrey jumped off the sofa and came to me like he wanted to be cuddled too. This happens frequently. Whenever I talk to Bandit, no matter what Jeffrey is doing he has to come over and receive the same. I don't mind talking or cuddling with both of them, but when it's the other way around; me cuddling Jeffrey, Bandit doesn't seem to care. Is Jeffrey jealous? By the way, I've only recently become a member and this site is now my fave. I don't know you all personally, but I think all of you are fantastic! It is so refreshing to hear from people who are not so completely wrapped up in thier lives that they forget all the other creatures on this earth. Peace to all!

Absolutely a dog can be jealous, especially of a newcomer! I would just be sure to let Jeffrey know you still love him every bit as much as ever. We once had a dog who was jealous of anyone getting affection - she wanted some, too! When my sister and I shared the piano bench for piano duets, she would wedge her nose between us so she could share the closeness! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Genia, I've got two just like yours. Tucker is my needy little soul. He's always up for affection and cuddles. He just can't get enough. Hannah has to be in the mood. Because Tucker gets so much (he's always asking for it), I make a concerted effort to not neglect Hannah. During those times, Tucker tries to wedge himself in between me and Hannah, as if he's saying, "No, me, me, me."

I think anytime there is more than one pet, you definitely get some jealousy. Lilly simply can not stand it when we are loving on Honey. She is larger and just pushes her way between Honey and me. Not to be outdone, Honey does the same thing. It is hilarious to watch them fight for our attention. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif They are the worst when it is time to get brushed. I actually have to put one outside and one inside in order to accomplish that task. Sometimes I need about 4 arms so I can love them at the same time. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif

that sort of behavior is pretty normal. my dogs do it all the time. i have 4 dogs and i swear they can talk to eachother. when one is getting some love another will walk up and shoot a glance at the other dog who imediatly moves outa the way. they all get more than their fare share of love though. i dont get out much. lol.

Thanks Genia! I agree! AWESOME website, and except for Carrie, some of the best-est people in the world!!! (LOL! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif:-making sure Carrie sees this!!!!) Cody is jealous of anyone who dares to hug me (Ahem! Yes, it does happen !)or show affection. If I make a kissing sound, he comes FLYING into the room and will nudge between me and the other hugger...Just like Tucker, it's "me! me! me! Gee,the poor thing never gets any affection!

Hahaha very cute about Cody, Karen I. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif Graham goes about getting back at me by doing the "silent treatment". He'll look at me giving Cassie cuddles and he'll move as far away from me as he can and stare at me with "You HATE me, don't you????" eyes. It gets me EVERY time! I appologize to little miss Puglett and go and see my pouty boy http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif He has me wrapped around his paw! All I can say is it's a good thing Cassie the puglett is not the cuddly, needy dog that Graham is...it'd be torture for me have 4 beautiful eyes staring at me sadly, instead of just 2!

And to Genia: When I first got Cassie, Graham stopped eating for 2 days. He was broken-hearted. He actually thought I got the pug because he was not good enough, when I got the pug to keep him company during the day while I was at work. He got over it. They still won't play but he's a happy boy again. He know's he's still the "main man"! (don't tell my hubby that tho http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif )

Genia,

I forgot to add...this is my all-time favorite site, without a doubt, EVER! It's loads of fun, it's heartwarming, it's tear jerking, informative, eye opening, friendly and full of wonderful knowledge and neat, caring people...not to mention lots of beautiful dogs! This site is the first thing I look at when I get to work in the morning, and it's a stress releaver during the workday to chat with the folks here. It's the best site I have found and I have made it into a wonderful tradition every morning http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Horray for Dog Of The Day and all it's members!

Regarding the above, well said. I couldn't agree with you more.

Even though Hannah isn't the needy one, just like Graham, she really took it personally when we got Tucker. She really believed that she was the only dog anyone would ever need, and couldn't understand what he was doing here. First she was real possessive of all the toys, but eventually got over that. She ignored Tucker's attempts to engage her in play, but tolerated him lying next to her. Now, a year and a half later, I do on occasion catch her playing with him outside but it took all this time.
